Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

I'm seven and a half weeks. And to top it off I feel poorly too. I thought i had a urine infection but I took a sample in this morning for dipsticking and they didn't find anything. I may go and see the doctor tomorrow. I feel like I need to go to the loo all the time but when I get there I can only sqeeze a few drops out and don't feel like I am emptying my bladder properly.

Moominsummermadness · 30/08/2011 20:31

Hi everyone,

Please try not to worry too much Kat, I know it's easier said than done, and as others have said, symptoms can come and go. I'm suprised that my boobs don't hurt nearly half as much as they did during my other pregnancies- I remember having to walk around with my arms folded over my chest to protect them a lot of the time- I must have looked really odd! Other symptoms have been different too. With my first 2 DC, I didn't have much nausea at all, just the odd day here and there, with DD 3, it used to come over me very suddenly and I would have to puke my guts up ( sorry if TMI), and this time, I steadily feel worse throughout the day until the only thing I can do to help is to go to bed ridiculously early. I'm also more spotty than I've ever been in my entire life, whereas my skin has gone drier in the past. The point I'm trying to make is that if symptoms can vary so much in one person between different pregnancies, when you'd imagine that hormones would affect that person in a similar way (unless I'm having a boy at last, lol!), it's very true that no two people are going to be the same. I really hope that you manage to get a scan though, just for reassurance.
Biscuits, I know what you mean about the time dragging until the 12 week scan. I'm only 7+2 now (having been put back a few days at the scan last week) so the 12 week scan feels like forever away. I haven't even got an appointment yet, hoping that I get it through soon so that I at least have the date in mind. The first trimester seems to drag so much!

laylasmummy09 · 31/08/2011 08:30

Just delurking to say congrats to hairy and woohoo dachs huge massive congratulations to you I really hope your pregnancy goes smoothly I hope its a good week for all xxx

LAF77 · 31/08/2011 10:09

Just a little note from me, had another scan today, and baby is doing well, measuring 11 weeks, so 5 days ahead. I'm so thrilled and happy. I had a sleepless night last night, fretting about the possibility of bad news.

Got back from Rome last night at 10pm. We did a lot of walking in the heat, so it was tiring, but enjoyable.

Biscuitsandtea · 31/08/2011 10:15

That's great news LAF :)

What a relief for you. Rome sounds lovely too.

I still have to wait another 2 weeks and 2 days for my next scan :(

kat2504 · 31/08/2011 10:21

Fantastic news laf am very pleased for you! Now go and get some sleep :) Glad you enjoyed your holiday.

DiffedAgainDachs · 31/08/2011 10:32

hairy Glad you had a fab 20 week scan! :) V pleased for you.

kat Good luck at the doctors today :)

hairylights · 31/08/2011 10:52

Oh LAF that's fantastic I am :) for you

shellshock7 · 31/08/2011 13:14

Dachs congrats Grin here's hoping for an uneventful 35 weeks x

Hi hairy great news re the scan, are you bothered about not knowing the sex?

biscuits, kat and moomin hope the scans roll around quickly

LAF great news, what a relief Grin

I'm back at work today feeling a lot better, so that's good...go on hols for ten days a week today, so am hoping that by the time I get back the iron tablets will have kicked in and the headaches subsided...oh and we caved in last night and used the doppler, so naughty!!

kat2504 · 31/08/2011 14:47

Pff they won't let me self refer to the EPU for a reassurance scan. I have to wait till I have seen the midwife on Tuesday for a referral. Pants. I really don't like seeing the midwife without knowing if the pregnancy is viable.

DiffedAgainDachs · 31/08/2011 14:50

that's really bad kat :( Could you call your GP surgery and get them to do an emergency referral for a scan?

kat2504 · 31/08/2011 15:16

Well I could try but I suspect they would say there is no emergency and remind me I only had a scan 9 days ago! I think the general rule is no bleeding = no scan. They will happily do a scan for reassurance but they need a referral so I am looking at perhaps another week from now. I am currently googling private scans...

shellshock7 · 31/08/2011 15:40

kat we have three hospitals nearby and only one you can self refer...even thought it is not my hospital I could go there if I needed to...can you try another hospital?

kat2504 · 31/08/2011 15:44

There isn't really another one nearby, I don't know what the rules are at the others. I don't want to go down the fake symptoms route to get in faster and make someone who was actually miscarrying have to wait longer. I may ring the other hospitals though

shellshock7 · 31/08/2011 15:52

I know what you mean, I paid for a private reassurance scan as had had no 'bad symptoms' to self refer to the other hospital, I agree re fake symptoms - I wouldn't want to tempt fate

Biscuitsandtea · 31/08/2011 16:05

Kat sorry they won't scan you. It is so hard :( I hope either one of the other hospitals or a private one can come up trumps for you x

kat2504 · 31/08/2011 16:18

Thanks. I may just have to sit tight for a bit longer. I'm not bleeding or anything at the moment thankfully. Also if I have the scan at 9 weeks rather than 8 then I have less time between that scan and the 12 week scan (assuming the best of course). I'll have to speak to MrKat later about it.

Purpletoes · 31/08/2011 20:18

dachs congratulations will kepp fingers crossed that youhave an uneventful 35 weeks!

LAF glad scan went well.
Also congrats to moomin and hairy on good scans as well.

I am 17 weeks today and I think I felt baby for the 1st time at work felt almost like an eye twitch low in tummy.

LAF77 · 01/09/2011 08:25

Kat it is so hard because I know as soon as you have a scan, the next day you are fretting about how long the next one is.

I had a scare this morning. I put in my pessaries and then found bright red blood. I think I must have caught myself with my fingernail as I felt it. Bleeding has mostly stopped now, but what a fright, with bright red blood on the loo roll and toilet. I'm trying to remain calm as I'm sure that is why I was bleeding.

purpletoes how exciting to feel the baby!

dachs best of luck for your pregnancy. Did they find a reason why you miscarried last time?

kat2504 · 01/09/2011 10:49

laf that sounds a bit like my sex scare last week. You are probably right, you have probably jsut nicked your cervix or something. If the bleeding doesn't continue you ought to be fine. I know what you mean about a fright though. If you are still worried no harm in seeing a doctor to get it checked out.

Today I am mostly freaking out about my non-achey boobs and my lack of morning sickness.

DiffedAgainDachs · 01/09/2011 12:57

LAF PROM is apparently more common with twins - there was nothing wrong with either baby or with me - just bad luck! :( Which is actually really depressing because at least if there was a reason it would be easier to deal with. Knowing there was nothing wrong with them just makes me feel like a crap useless person. If I get that far this time they're going to put a stitch in at some point between 12 and 14 weeks, more precautionary than because they think my cervix has issues but they want to do something!

I hope the bleeding stops soon, but if you are freaking out then you could get them to give you an emergency scan anyway.

purple Thanks. :) And yay for beginning to feel baby! :)

Is anyone finding time is going really slowly at the moment? It seems like ages to wait until my scan on Monday. I wish there was something I could do before then to see whether there was actually anything with a heartbeat inside me - AAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am having lots of cramps, which I know is actually quite normal, and I've had no bleeding and not even any spotting, so I'm probably just being paranoid, but I'm really freaking out. :)

kat Symptoms disappearing or lack of them doesn't necessarily mean anything. I had no symptoms at all with the twins, not even sore boobs. Whereas with the mmc, I had really sore boobs the whole time. FX you get some reassurance soon.

milkyways · 01/09/2011 12:58

Hi all :) Thanks for all the replies last Saturday - didn't really think it would upset me, I feel a bit embarrassed posting now - I think it's a bunch of hormones making me all teary...I cried at the end of Tangled yesterday, and I am forced to watch it everyday, so should be used to it by now!

LAF Lovely news on your scan - it's amazing how they grow from blob stage to human baby isn't it? Also, how frightening with the blood. Even when you know where it is coming from, and you know it's not serious it can still be very worrying and frightening. Hope you are still calm about it - still mention it to the mw on your next visit. Congrats to moomin and hairy too on happy scans! Getting to 20 weeks is wonderful!

Congratualtions dachs. Hope everything goes smoothly for you this time. x

I don't really have anything to say about myself. Two nights ago I had a panic attack at 4am as I couldn't feel baby move when I prodded my belly, so ran downstairs with my doppler and listened. He was happily moving about - I just couldn't feel it. I just want my baby in my arms!

to everyone, hope you're all well x

kat2504 · 01/09/2011 13:06

Thanks dachs come to think of it I remember you not having any symptoms last time around. My trouble is that the last two times, i have had symptoms at first which have gone away between 6 and 8 weeks (probably the same time that the pregnancies failed) and gone on to mmc. So now what I would really really love is some convincing symptoms. Where are you up to at the moment and when will you get an early scan? Have you had two put back in this time or just the one?

DiffedAgainDachs · 01/09/2011 15:42

I have the first scan on Monday, then another one the following week. We were only going to have one put back but there were only 3 fertilised and only two of them were still alive on transfer day, and the second one wasn't good enough to freeze so they strongly encouraged us to have both put back, which we did. So I guess I find out on Monday how many there are! Am terrified...

bigmacandhappymeal · 02/09/2011 16:51

dachs big (((hug))) for Monday and the days inbetween

Peaceful, uneventful and swift weekends for all
