Freak Out Room For Those Newly Updiffed After M/C Part VIII

dooscooby · 20/07/2011 12:53

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Grin that's great news moomin!

kat if you're constipated ask your GP for lactulose (a glamorous stool softener :) ) takes a couple of days to work and tastes like golden syrup but does the job. In early PG I had problems with bleeding and one of the reasons is that they now think was attributed to me, ahem, straining, and putting pressure on the cervix. That was some mentalling I could have done without! I also still find apple juice to be the magic fix

And talking of poos - shell those iron tablets can also make you constipated - see above .

Take care ladies, hope you don't mind me dipping in?
x

Ok so feel better now, heard the heartbeat.
however have been in major pain today, across my hip and back on the right hand side and down my right leg. turns out its most likely sciatica. lovely, something that probably won't go away til after the birth! its just one thing after another!
Hope everyone else is having a good day. Xx

Biscuitsandtea · 25/08/2011 19:19

Just a quickie but wanted to say to Moomin great news about the heartbeat. Hope everyone else is ok xx

LAF77 · 25/08/2011 22:18

great news moomin hopefully you will sleep well tonight.

glad that things are going well for you purpletoes and you have heard your baby's heartbeat too angela

kat I eat vast quantities of fresh fruit. today i've had a few handfuls of raspberries and blueberries with my porridge, a nectarine as a mid-morning snack, a few handfuls of dried apricots throughout the day, and a peach for dessert, and I'm still sluggish, but I go eventually. It isn't easy that's for sure.

biscuits i echo your sentiments about time passing so slowly, but in some ways, I'm amazed I'm 9+3 today. I lost my third pg at 9+3. I had terrible nightmares last night about losing the baby. However, that pg was very different than this one. The dates from the scans never matched up with my actual dates, so in some ways I'm relaxing a little bit because I've passed another milestone safely. The odds are getting better with each passing day.

I've been struggling with sickness more this week. Weirdly, I have evening sickness. I am taking pessaries for PROMISE and when I have to put them in at night, when I start to do it, makes me bring up my dinner. Baby doesn't like the junk food I've bought. The chilli rice crackers came back up and chocolate biscuits are also to be avoided. I've slept 11 hours per night over the last 2 days.

We are away over the BH weekend which will provide a welcome distraction before my next scan at 10 weeks. I'm off to Rome, and I've been googling whether or not I can eat mozzarella di bufala and prosciutto. I'm sure Italian women probably eat them during pg, but there seem to be warnings about cured meats. I guess I'll just see what is on the menus!

Moominsummermadness · 26/08/2011 09:01

Thank you everyone! I'm glad that you heard the heartbeat, Angela. I can't wait to get to that stage, it feels so far away at the moment. I also agree about time passing so slowly, I don't think it helps that my dates have already been put back by a few days.
It probably sounds silly, but I'm worrying about the fact that my dates don't really agree with the dates they gave me yesterday- we DTD for the last time in July on Wednesday 20th, but the CRL was 6.7, so it was put at 6w 4d. That would mean that I would have conceived on Sunday 24th July! That's 4 days after we DTD! I'm just holding on to the fact that a) apparently sperm can survive on the body for up to 7 days and b) I have a retroverted uterus and bean was quite difficult to find, so I don't know how accurate the measurements are at this stage! I wish they could invent a special kind of pregnancy chill-pill (completely safe for the fetus, of course) that somehow would make you forget about all the things that can go wrong and stop you mentalling about everything!

kat2504 · 26/08/2011 09:13

moomin my scan was pretty much the same. I was sure of being 6+4 (due to ovulation tests and recording when I had sex) Even if I ovulated a day later that would have been 6+3 but at 5.6mm the sonographer dated me as 6+1.
naturally I started to worry because I am certain of my dates but since only a millimetre makes all the difference, and she didn't use the dildocam, I think a certain amount of inaccuracy is to be expected. Also apparently many people with a retroverted uterus cant even see the baby at six weeks so try not to worry about a small difference in the date.

The chill pill would get my backing. I am a paranoid nervous wreck at the moment!

kat2504 · 26/08/2011 09:17

LAFF I reckon the mozzarella is fine. Our mozzarella in the shops here is pasteurised, but I don't know if that is true in Italy. I think it's just the mouldy/mould edged cheese that needs to be avoided. The deli meats is a different one. I think if it is cooked, like on a pizza topping or something it is absolutely fine.

Have a lovely holiday! I love Rome and would love to go back one day.

Purpletoes · 26/08/2011 10:55

Try to not worry about early scan dates I was put back 3 days at early scan then pit forward 4 at 12 week scan !

laf77 enjoy Rome I am heading there in 3 weeks time so any tips/ recommendations will be gratefully received .

Hi everyone, hope you are having a good weekend x

So I successfully used the Doppler, tried once and only heard my own heartbeat, tried again later and took a while but finally got babies Smile

Only prob is now I'm worried abt pressing on my tummy Confused didn't press hard really at all but still mentalling a bit, bloody typical Blush

milkyways · 27/08/2011 18:04

Shell - glad you found the hb! I'm not going to reassure you about the pressing hard thing because you know that it's nothing to worry about!

It's my baby daughter's due date today. Been feeling really sad and down the past few days. Just feel guilty for not doing anything to save her, and I think the scan on monday is making me more guilt ridden. Keep crying when I think about when I saw her hb I was so happy, and then she passed away a week later. How can I miss something I never had? :(

hairylights · 28/08/2011 10:57

Hug to you milky I had the same thing with mc no 2. Hope you feel better soon.

thinkingpink · 28/08/2011 21:25

Hey guys....Its gone awfully quiet in here. Just so you all know this is angela85. Had to change the boring name (only had that name in the first place as i was going through a mc at the time of joining, and my mind wasn't up to thinking of anything original!) Any way as the name suggests I'm really hoping for another girl (not that i'd complain about a boy, a healthy baby is all that matters!) I'll change the stats when i get some time.
Hope you're feeling a little better Milky, I'm not looking forward to that day myself! Big hugs xx
Hope everyone else is doing well, i can only assume for now that no news is good news! xxx

stitchinline · 28/08/2011 22:02

Hi
Sorry been a bit quiet - having a big wallow in misery here. My mother was supposed to fly in from NY this morning but her flight was cancelled because of tbe hurricane and it's not looking like she'll get here til wednesday at the earliest. Haven't seen her for nearly a year and was so looking forward to spending girly time together Sad. The time we have together is so limited and precious I just get so upset when it's cut short like this. Otherwise all is going ok here, def on the no news is good news theme. Trying to remain positive til the next scan.
Glad the Doppler worked for you shellshock. Is my dd coming up soon too milky so big hugs - know how you feel.
Hope all else are going well and enjoying the weekend.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/08/2011 20:49

Oh Stitch so sorry about your mum's flight - any news on when she can get rescheduled? Hope she can get here soon so you can enjoy your girly time xx

stitchinline · 29/08/2011 22:10

Thanks biscuits - it looks like she has been able to get a flight via canada so fx should be here Wednesday. Smile

kat2504 · 30/08/2011 07:35

Stressing about the AWOL symptoms again. Boobs seem very back to normal today. Hopefully I can get another scan later this week so I will know one way or the other. No more bleeding since the sex incident so I think that was probably due to the cervix thing. I am a complete nervous wreck at the moment though and can't get anything useful done.

stich glad your mum has managed to sort out flights, hope she will be there tomorrow.

milky I know what you mean about the due date, it's a hard day to get through when you are thinking about what should have been happening. Hope you are feeling better now.

stitchinline · 30/08/2011 11:04

Kat - hopefully you can get a scan. The early stages with symptoms coming and going were hell and concentrating on anything was impossible for me so know how you are feeling. It is not fun at all.

I find that disgusting as it is I get quite pleased everytime I puke up - lost breakfast this morning and was quite delighted Confused. As that is my main symptom apart from tummy cramps it is a bit more comforting.

shellshock7 · 30/08/2011 13:11

Hey it has been quiet in here this weekend, hope most people have been having fun Smile

Milky sorry you were having a bad time on Saturday, hope you have picked up over the last few days xxx

stitch total crap re your mum's visit, glad she will be here in a couple of days...and glad you threw up this morning Grin

kat I know you know this already, but symptoms do come and go...I know that it's no reassurance when you are feeling like you are at the mo, hope you get a scan soon x

I'm off work again today, another headache, I find myself thinking and wishing that morning sickness and headaches must pass soon (am 13+2 now) but then panic, cos like stitch it's reassuring to feel so bad! Am being strong and not using the doppler too,not sure if I can hold out till the weekend like I promised myself Blush

DiffedAgainDachs · 30/08/2011 13:47

All those of you worrying about scans where baby measures a day or two different from expected, when I was pg with IVf twins they measured different from each other by about 3 days, even though I knew exactly when they had been conceived because it was in a lab! So don't worry :)

Oh - and for anyone that remembers me and losing the twins - I am pleased to announce I am pg again! Grin Only 5+1 today, so still v early. First scan next Monday.

hairylights · 30/08/2011 16:43

Hi, all, just wanted to delurk and say all well at 20 week scan :)

We have a lovely clear picture.

Baby had it's hand over it's vital parts so we couldn't tell the gender!

Hope all of you freaking have good scans soon - it doesn't half help!

hairylights · 30/08/2011 16:44

Oh and mustn't run before giving a great bit 'wooooop' for Dachs :) :) :) so lovely to see your news! You're an inspiration.

scarletfingernail · 30/08/2011 16:49

That's fantastic news hairylights I am really thrilled for you.

You won't remember me, but I posted late last year and early this year on the Miscarriage boards under a different name regarding my 2 mcs and your advice really helped me. I'm delighted things are now going well for you. I'm quite a way behind you at only 6 weeks, but I'm feeling much more positive this time.

Biscuitsandtea · 30/08/2011 18:05

Afternoon all,

Kat hope you get a scan soon to give you a bit of reassurance. It's so hard when you worry about every symptom that is there and every one that isn't, and then every minute variation in them. It's just so impossible. Have you asked anyone about a scan yet? I should probably be able to remember this but how many weeks are you?

Dachs Super news - congratulations on your news - we will of course have everything crossed for you and will be here for hand holding if you want to come for a little freak out?

Also Hairy great news on your 20 week scan - what super news.

Not much change here - still having not very much in the way of symptoms (apart from an expanding tum) but am just trying to hold out until my 12 weeks scan (2 weeks on Friday when I'll hopefully be either 12+2 (by LMP dates) or 12+5 (using the dates from the 8 week scan))). Seems ages and ages away.

And my 8 week scan seems like a life time ago - I almost wonder if it was from my pregnancy with DS? The annoying this is my 12 week scan is still further away than the time since my 8 week one - yawn! Still, every day that I manage to get through without something bad happening is a step in the right direction I suppose.

Hope everyone else is OK xx
