Freak Out Room For Those Newly Updiffed After M/C Part VIII

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Sorry for the quick post yesterday everyone - I had a very busy day yesterday. I would like to say a big thanks to everyone for reassuring me about SIL's reaction. My sister phoned me up out of the blue yesterday (she lives abroad) and I ended up telling her and she was very happy - asking me how I was, if they baby was healthy and to be careful etc etc...So I guess it is just my SIL's problem, and I won't be thinking about it anymore.

kat Congratulations on a happy scan x

shellshock My baby girl who I lost in January would have been due this week, on the 27th. In a way it has been such a bitter sweet experience for me having the scan for this baby in the same week. Hopefully you will get good news too to help you get through the due date of your little angel.

stitch Are you taking your aspirin until week 36? I went to the GP yesterday and she was completely useless, however, she has told me to carry on taking it until she receives a reply from the EPU in the hospital.

LAF Is this a TV programme? Sounds interesting.

moomin Hope you get good news tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

The thing that worried me about the scan was that the baby's head circumference measured very slightly below average - about 4mm out. All the other measurements were above average. I don't know if its something to worry about. I know my DD had a small head, but I can't remember the measurement.
Everything inside the head, like all the sections of the brain measured above average too, so I am hoping the baby just has a small head. Also, he was very uncooperative during the scan, and wouldn't let the sonographer get a good measurement, so I am hoping she just couldn't get a good view. She didn't seem phased by it - although she did ask me how far along I was. I asked about 3 times whether everything was okay, and she told me not to worry it was fine. But I am still mentalling.

On the talk of dopplers, I started using mine when I was 11 weeks, and I found a full bladder helped me find the hb quicker.

Hope everyone else is okay - Sorry for the long post....I will add you on the list angela!!

Moomin I've got everything crossed for you for your scan tomorrow.

From what you've said it sounds as though everything's ok? The HCG levels sound good and if you've been bleeding for 4 weeks and the levels are that high that's a very positive sign. When I had my first mc, the first sign I had was bright red blood. They took a blood test on that first day and my HCG level was 659, this was at 6weeks plus 3 days. 2 days later the HCG level was 55. I know it's different for everyone, but I hope this can help put your mind at rest.

Blackkat · 23/08/2011 20:56

just wanted to give a big Grin for two bits of lovely scan news, milkys and her brilliant blue news...can't wait to see you on grads x

Kat so pleased that the six weeks scan showed a baby, and have FX that the clexane does the trick, thinking of you and really hoping that you have a very uneventful next 8 1/2 months xx

Just having a quick read of other posts and sending positive thoughts to moomin xx

Reassurance to shell the chances of MMC after 12 weeks are small. There are stats on the Miscarriage Association website but they've just updated and I can't find them...sorry...Collie posted them last time...when she's back from hols I will ask her to repost.

Laylas so pleased to see you at 18 weeks, beanbag ready for you in grads

Leaves potato waffles and salt and vinegar to cope with ms and the comfort eating requirements of the early stages xx

Biscuitsandtea · 24/08/2011 06:44

Morning ladies,

Just a quick post to apologise for the radio silence here. I have my sister visiting so no time for MNing Sad. Instead I'm attempting to be vaguely hospitable. (Hard work because she's a difficult houseguest! Hmm). I have been trying to read and catch up where I can but haven't had time to post.

Kat glad your scan went well and Milky too. I don't know much about all the measurement stuff - can't even recall being given stuff like that for ds but maybe we were? Is there a way you could find the figures for your older child to compare and put your mind at rest? I am sure though if there was any cause for concern they would have had to call you back in again or got someone else to look at it? There just always be a range for these measurements so someone will always have to be near the 'edges' of the normal range. Not that that will ever stop us from worrying about everything eh? Oh and congrats on it being a boy too Grin.

Moomin fingers crossed for your scan today. What time do you have to go?

Time seems to have slowed down to a standstill here. I said to DH that I an 9 weeks today and he said 'oh it's whizzing by isn't it' Ermm, no! I can't believe it was only 1 week ago I had my scan. From 7-8 weeks went ok as I had the scan to look forward to but since then - gah! Every time I look at our stats list I think 'oh, is that all I am - yes I suppose that is right' Sad.

Anyway I hope everyone else is doing ok - again apologies for the lack of posting. Blush

Moominsummermadness · 24/08/2011 10:13

Hi Ladies, scan is tomorrow at 8.30am, not today. Was supposed to have gone for 2nd BHCG blood test today, but midwife at EPAU said there was no need, based on the numbers from the last one. She said only the scan will tell me what I need to know. There is some serious mentalling going on right now though, I was having some very weird dreams last night. I know that whatever the outcome is from the scan, I have to accept it, but really hoping that it's good news! DH can't come with me either, due to child care issues. I am trying to distract myself today, got school uniform to label, so that will kill a bit of time!

Hope everyone else is ok!

Biscuitsandtea · 24/08/2011 10:16

Oh of course Moomin I think I did know that (but wishful thinking on my part of today being Thursday - my sis goes home on Thursday... ConfusedBlush)

Hope today goes as quickly as poss for you x

Purpletoes · 24/08/2011 10:22

hi sorry for the radio silence been hectic at work.

glad to hear the good scan news milkyways

moomin I hope you get the reassurance you need tomorrow your blood results are very promising.

Welcome to all the newbies thsi is the perfect place to freak out.

I had my 16 week midwife appointment today all is well so far took a little while to find LO heartbeat ! Its seems to like to hide from any u/s or monitoring at the moment.

That is all for now better get into work!

shellshock7 · 24/08/2011 13:20

Thanks for the reassurances re MMC, I know what will be will be, but I like having all the information so I can work out what needs worrying about the most I guess Smile

Good luck for the scan tomorrow moomin

milky and stitch I'm not sure how much longer I can go without buying a doppler! Can I ask what make you have bought and what else I might need and milky have you any other tips, I've made a mental note re the full bladder!

stitchinline · 24/08/2011 15:53

Shellshock I have the angel sounds doppler, still not able to find heartbeat but going to try the full bladder trick next. Not letting the lack of result worry me as it could just be the too many pies tummy getting in the way Blush

Yay purpletoes for 16 weeks and hearing heartbeat, excellent news

moomin blood results do look good so have everything crossed for your scan tomorrow

milky I?m on aspirin til they tell me not too. It?s actually prescribed by my anti-co consultant and I?m also on fragmin til 6 weeks post birth and then it will be back on the warfarin for me. Oh the joy. I have APA and also a history of DVT & PE (non-pregnancy related) hence the drugs.

milkyways · 24/08/2011 22:14

biscuits - with DD (4 years ago) I remember getting a hand written set of measurements on photocopied paper! Scribbles really. Back then I never cared about such things, so never googled, or researched the measurements - just took them as they were! MC's have just turned me into a worry wart.

purpletoes Lovely news about hearing the HB at your appointment. Such a reassuring sound!

shellshock I bought the cheapest one on Amazon - the Angel Sounds doppler, and although it looks like a toy, it works absolutely fine for me. Like I said before, I could hear the hb from about 11.5 weeks with a full bladder and pressing it quite hard just above my pubic bone.

stitch Have you tried using more gel with the doppler? Oh, I didn't realise you had APA, do you have to inject yourself with the fragmin? I've been presrcribed aspirin on a "try it and see" basis as I wasn't diagnosed with any blood clotting issues, so am really worried that if I stop, something will go wrong IYKWIM.

kat2504 · 25/08/2011 06:31

moomin thinking of you this morning, I really hope it is good news for you.

Aaargh. Decided to have sex last night. it had been a little while after all and he obviously has got too fond of the three times a week during ttc. Anyway, had some bleeding afterwards. Clearly fresh blood as red not brown. There didn't seem to be that much but hard to tell as it was "diluted" if you get my meaning. It wasnt there when I went to the loo half an hour before hand and there was no new bleeding when I checked again an hour later. There's little point going to the hospital as they only scanned me on Monday so I guess I'll have to wait and see and get a scan at 8 weeks, the point at which previous mcs were discovered. Dr Google has given me conflicting answers.

stitch The injections are a pain aren't they? i hate jabbing myself. But if it gets me the desired outcome then it will be worth it.

purpletoes very pleased you had such a nice 16 week appointment and got to hear the heartbeat.

Moominsummermadness · 25/08/2011 07:05

Thanks for the good luck, ladies, I had the worst night's sleep ever, and am now trying to fill my bladder!

Kat, try not to worry too much. It could be a cervical erosion, which is really common in pregnancy. I developed one last year after being on the combined pill for a few years (apparently oestrogen is to blame) and the main symptom was bleeding after sex, exactly like you described. If that is the cause of the bleeding, it is totally benign, it just means that the cells on the outside of the cervix have become more like the cells on the inside:- as the gynaecologist explained to me, like the difference between your outer lips and the skin on the inside of your mouth. Therefore, the skin is much more delicate than usual, and liable to bleed with the slightest knock. It can be treated too (but obviously after pregnancy).

angela85 · 25/08/2011 08:43

Good luck moomin.
Try not to worry Kat, I've had 2 small bleeds so far this pg, and one of those was right after sex, I also found that sex was really painful til about week 12, so hopefully its nothing to worry about.
How is everyone else this morning?
I've managed to work myself into a major worrying mess! had an awful dream last night that the midwife couldn't find a hb, So now of course that's all I can think about. Seeing my midwife this afternoon so now need to keep myself busy til 2! Also how often should you feel baby move when it first starts moving? can't remember from last time and Dr Google confuses and scares me! Again I'm prob worrying for nothing, but I was so excited cos I first felt it move on Saturday, but I haven't felt it since, should I be worried?
Thanks in advance ladies.
Oh and thank you milky for adding me to the list. Xx

bigmacandhappymeal · 25/08/2011 08:55

thinking of you today moomin

Kat a small amount of bleeding after sex is really, really common. My EPAC nurse always asked if we had DTD when I went in for bleeding (how I laughed as it's been off our agenda completely). Like moomin says, it could be cervical erosion or just the fact that we are all packing more blood flow into the area and it's highly sensitised. Easily said but wait 24 hrs and if there's nothing else dismiss it from your mind. I'm afraid also that I have to apply the haddock for using Dr Google!

Big ((hugs)) to everyone and some pretzels and braeburns on the side - these saw me through weeks 7-9
xxx

bigmacandhappymeal · 25/08/2011 09:00

PS angela it's only now at 26 weeks that I've been asked to keep an eye on movements (and some are told to do it later than me from what I can gather). There's so much room in there for your bean at 15 weeks that you may not feel regular movement for a while. I first felt bubbly feelings at 16 weeks but didn't feel anything regular ish until 22 weeks. Worry not :) and get off Dr Google!!

kat2504 · 25/08/2011 09:26

Thanks for the reassurance. I am most definitely still feeling pregnant so that is one thing at least. No actual sickness yet but feel pretty grotty. TMI but I have epic constipation. Regardless of what I seem to eat. It makes me think I am having cramps but it turns out to be just constipation or trapped wind. Ah the joys of pregnancy......

angela I looked it up in a book and it says 20 weeks give or take a week or two is when most people start feeling movements. So you are early yet and don't worry about it. Good luck with your appointment today! I'm sure you'll get to listen to a lovely strong heartbeat.

Moominsummermadness · 25/08/2011 10:09

Just got back from hospital. I arrived with a very full bladder, and it had taken the sonographer a few minutes to get the scanner up and running, so I was very uncomfortable! She did an abdominal scan to start with, and could only see a larger than last time gestational sac. She explained that because my bladder was so full, the image was too fuzzy. I had to go for a wee, so that she could do an internal scan again. While I was in the loo, I was fearing the worst. However.... there was my little bean, with a heart beat, measuring 6.7mm crown to rump, so 6 weeks 4 days. I had been staring up at the ceiling, and was shocked when she told me that she had found my baby! I burst into tears with relief. The lovely sonographer even gave me a picture to take home. I spoke to the midwife afterwards, who put the bleeding possibly down to a very long implantation bleed. Having spoken to some friends who have had bleeding throughout pregnancy, I'm just not sure. I will just have to try to relax- I know it's still early days, and there is still a risk of m/c, but I'm so reassured now.
Hope everyone else has a good day!

kat2504 · 25/08/2011 10:11

Oh thank goodness moomin I am so pleased it went so well for you and you have got to see your little bean on the scan. :) :) :)

Moominsummermadness · 25/08/2011 10:31

Thanks Kat! I might be able to sleep tonight now!

stitchinline · 25/08/2011 10:50

Excellent scan news moomin Grin

angela85 · 25/08/2011 10:57

Great news moomin. Really happy for you. Xx

shellshock7 · 25/08/2011 11:21

Thanks stitch and milky I've ordered the angel on next day delivery from amazon (had a shocker of a night last night, not sleeping for panicking!) so will report back tomorrow! Who knew I'd me more worried than ever after the 12 week scan Confused

Answer phone message to call my GP when I got in last night didn't help, mild panic! But it was just to say blood tests back from hospital show I am anemic so got a prescription for iron tablets - nothing to worry about is there? Dr Google seems to think not for once! Might explain and help a few things which I'd just put down to being pregnant, been very short of breath and tired...hopefully might even help the headaches!

kat no advice as im still too scared to have sex (poor DH!) but it is something I know might happen when if we do, so hopefully it is nothing to worry about Smile

Sorry about your dream angela so annoying when you dont even get a break in your sleep Sad good that you have the midwife today x

Moomin that is great news Grin such a relief for you xxx

scarletfingernail · 25/08/2011 12:25

Fantastic news Moomin. What a relief for you Smile
