Freak Out Room For Those Newly Updiffed After M/C Part VIII

dooscooby · 20/07/2011 12:53

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Hi everyone I hope its ok to add to your thread as a lurker but Im feeing brave this morning, Ive worked out that im about 5 and a half weeks, I have shared on the 'pregnancy' board a few times just to see how it feels in writing but it still doesnt seem real!

Im sitting on the terrified obsessive step at the moment, I suffer with OCD anyway so im a natural candidate for a few very difficult months I suppose but Ive gone from feeling very symptomatic the last few days to nothing at all- DH tells me that if he sees me prodding my boobs one more time to see if they are still tender he might just chop my hands off Blush seems mental to wish for nasty symptoms but nice to know im not alone

Big congratulations to you all x

milkyways · 22/08/2011 09:38

Hi all, thanks for all your replies. Yes SIL can be a right b sometimes, but I'll just have to bite my lip and ignore as usual. I suppose it's just her personality.

I have an appointment with my GP this morning, as I was told to stop the aspirin at 20 weeks, but I'm not comfortable with that, so will go and ask how long I can carry on the aspirin for. I just have horrible thoughts of depriving my little one of oxygen and nutrients if I give up the aspirin...

My scan is at 3pm. DH has taken the day off work so hopefully he'll keep me busy until then. I'm sure I'll find something to clean in that time!

Will update later today.

mrsb33 · 22/08/2011 11:23

Hi Ladies, would you mind if i join.
found out i was pg last wednesday, so worked out im about 5 weeks today.
had a mmc with my first pregnancy last sept at 13 weeks, lost baby at 8.
we were just about to start some fertility investigations, so have had my 21 bloods done, then was just waiting on a scan then bobs your uncle were pregnant!!!
im seriously mentalling, having period esk aches on and off, and terrible wind.
so am seeing my doctor today to see if i can get in for an early scan at some point over the next 4 weeks....

Happy mentalling waves to all. x

shellshock7 · 22/08/2011 13:12

Hi Layla so sorry to read that you miscarried on your birthday...but it's nice to hear you had a much nicer birthday this time around Sad

Kat glad you had a good holiday, hope you worries are for nothing - good luck for your appointment today x

spell I think symptoms do come and go, mine certainly have - doesn't stop us worrying tho!

Angela hope you are feeling a bit happier today x

Hi mighty and congrats on your BFP Smile I think you have licence to prod your boobs as often as you need to over the next few weeks - I know I do!!!

Congrats MrsB Smile terrible wind seems to be a common symptom so embrace it Grin

Sorry you have had a bad time of it milky people are so insensitive it makes me mad - hopefully your scan will make you forget your SIL

Well I had a few days of respite following the scan, but am back to worrying again now! I have started with weird pains in my stomach when I move , quite high up and to the side most of the time, and the back of the tops of my legs are achy and heavy? DH is so happy after Friday, and just thinks its all plain sailing now that I don't really want to tell him I'm worrying again IFSWIM...on a positive note I was so sick at the weekend, which has to be a good sign, right?! Also, my 20 week scan date has been set for the day the baby we lost would have been due - not sure how to feel about that at all Sad

shellshock i don?t think the worry ever goes away, the high from the scan fades and then every niggle has you consulting dr google. I had lots of pains over the weekend but may have overdone things cleaning the kitchen so they were more ligament stretchy pains. My dd from my mc is also coming up :(, hopefully the scan will give you a much happier memory of the day for the future.

kat glad to hear you had a nice holiday and really the heparin injections are not that bad if you do have to do them

milky that is really horrible of your SIL especially as she knows your history. I?m also on aspirin and taking it right through, your scan is about as I write this so will be lurking back later to check

laylas good luck for the OB today

Well I?m feeling a bit funny this week, i think it?s because we have told a few people at the weekend and now I feel like I?ve jinxed it all. Also we are making lots of plans and talking about pre-baby / post-baby and that is freaking me out. I?ve just booked a gender scan for when I?ll be 16 mainly because I can?t wait til my 20 week Blush. Gone from being a POAS addict to a scan addict. Have been too scared to try the doppler again as afraid I won?t hear anything and that it will make me even more worried.

Congrats and welcome to mighty, mrsb and angela, this is the freak out room so feel free to do what the name suggests :o

Waves to LAF, biscuits and anyone else lurking about

shellshock7 · 22/08/2011 16:09

Oh stitch was going to ask you whether you had used the doppler again...I had a go with the my babys beat app for the iphone but couldn't hear anything...am seriously considering getting a doppler but am scared!

I know what you mean about telling people, since Friday we have talked more openly about it, as though it is real, and this is making me very nervous, like you say feeling like I have jinxed it...we are daft really. Still not telling peple at work, can't face all the (well meant) comments?

Not sure what to do about scans, we have talked about the 4D one after 20 weeks, but like you 16 weeks seems much more manageable from a mentalling point of view Blush

stitchinline · 22/08/2011 16:32

Shellshock - I had a look at the app but I think it is aimed for 30+ weeks so thought I might hold off. Will let you know when I get the Doppler out again and if it works. My 20 week is not til I'm about 22 so no way was I waiting til then Smile

Moominsummermadness · 22/08/2011 16:58

Welcome to the new ladies, and hope everyone is ok, and that those who had a scan/appointment today had a good outcome!

I'm not so good, I'm afraid. I'd gone from the brown spotting almost tapering off completely, and feeling incredible sick over the weekend, to waking up this morning with a heavy, bright red bleed, and some pain, especially on the right side. I didn't know what to do at first, so I made a Dr appointment, saw the lovely GP who did my booking-in last week, and although I have my follow-up scan at the EPU on Thurs, he wanted me to get scanned sooner. he explained, that although the earlier scan detected a tiny gestational sac, rarely there can also be an ectopic in one of the tubes.
He spoke to the on-call gynae at the hospital, who said that I'd need to go to A & E. The gynae, however, said that they wouldn't bother scanning me as I'm only 6+5, but I would need a BHCG blood test, and an internal examination. Off I went to A & E, with the letter from the GP (had to go alone, as we couldn't get childcare so DH had to stay and look after DC). A nurse took a urine sample, and obs, and I had to wait for another hour or so to see the gynae. He examined me, said that my cervix was closed, there was no active bleeding or clots but there was some old blood lurking about. He then started talking about me having the follow-up blood test on Wednesday, and that I was free to go. At this point, I mentioned that I hadn't actually had a blood test. He was not happy to say the least. On my notes, they had written 'BHCG' and drawn a box next to it. When they'd taken my urine sample, they'd obviously tested it for HCG, and written 'positive' and ticked the box next to it. They were supposed to do the blood test, so that by the time the gynae came to see me, he would have the result!!
Finally had the blood test, then I could go home. Have now been signed off sick for 2 weeks by GP- he wants me to rest until bleeding has settled. I'm still bleeding, now dark brown and I've had a 1cm clot. I really don't know what to think. I'm pretty sure that this pregnancy is just not meant to be. I'll have to go to EPU for other blood test on Wednesday, then scan (as planned) on Thurs. I'm glad that I've not got to try to struggle in to work in the meantime.

Sorry for the essay!!!

Spellcheck · 22/08/2011 16:59

Hi all, hope you and your little wrigglers are all well!

'Morning' (ha!) sickness has returned with a vengeance and I've eaten constantly today to try and get rid - given myself horrendous, embarrassing wind. So none of my DC will come near me, even the dog is avoiding me, hypocrite.

Pregnancy brain
also kicking in, attempting to play monopoly with DC earlier, kept adding the dice and money up wrongly, to the point where I was expelled from the game.

themightyskim I know what you mean re prodding boobs - they just don't hurt any more!! Why???!

stitch I have pains in my stomach, sometimes low to the side, sometimes higher up and cramps all over the place. I do remember these from previous pgs so I think it's normal. When I mc'd the pain was severe, lasting, and quite central.

Milky how was your scan? SIL clearly a bit put out by your wonderful news, somehow felt the need to burst your bubble...she obviously has issues there. Ignore, and concentrate on you! And Kat, hope your consultant appointment went well! Would be fab to see an obstetrician/midwife/sonographer every day to ease obsessive thoughts, wouldn't it...

Happy thoughts to all Smile

shellshock7 · 22/08/2011 17:08

I wanted to ask a question, but I don't want to worry or upset anyone - so if you are worried about statistics etc. please don't read this.

Has anyone seen any information about later missed miscarriages? Most of the things I have read seem to be about MMC's discovered at the 12 week scan or earlier, I was just wondering whether they are also commonly (well, as common as earlier MMCs) discovered at the 20 week scan? Basically, I am just wondering about whether I now only need to worry about physical/outward signs of miscarriage or whether they can still occur and be undetected? I know that the 20 week scan will look for anomalies in the baby so there is that to worry about - but at then moment my brain is still just mentalling about miscarriage.

kat2504 · 22/08/2011 17:26

Well good news from the hospital today. They sent me to ultrasound, I saw a real live six weeks old baby in my uterus and I have been prescribed some clexane to try to keep it there. Early days still but at least there is a good hope this time around.

shellshock I understand your worry and yes very rarely a mmc can happen later but I would have thought thats why they listen to the heartbeat at the 16 week check up so you don't have to go all the way to 20 weeks. Later miscarriages are very rare. If your 12 weeks scan was ok then there is a 99% chance you will not miscarry.

I think we will all mental all the way through until birth!

scarletfingernail · 22/08/2011 17:27

Oh Moomin what a horrible day. It's the waiting and not knowing what's happening that's the hardest part of all this, I think. Are you able to call them before Wednesday to find out the result of today's blood test? They will have an indication from that as to how things are progressing. It's a good sign that the bleeding's turned brown again though isn't it?

I'm having a bad day mentalling today. It's 6 days since my BFP and the initial excitement has worn off and I'm now driving myself mad with anxiety. I called my GP practice earlier who said I need to bring in another water sample tomorrow morning. Didn't give me a reason why, so I'm assuming the one I gave last Weds didn't show positive. Using the same sample at home, I'd had a positive result on a FR, CB and an internet cheapie. I've been getting stronger results testing every day since then so I know I am pregnant, so I'm worrying about what this is all about now.

Another thing. The bottom of my back and going round to my left side feels really tender to touch. I've never had this before, have any of you? I can't thin what this is and not sure whether it's my skin or underneath? I've been googling like mad and I'm worried I've either got some dangerous skin condition or a kidney infection. Any advice on either problem?

Hope the rest of you are all good.

Hi everyone just a quick drop in message from me:

moomin I am so sorry you are bleeding. You are in my thoughts x

Everything was fine in the scan and the sonographer seemed happy - a few things I'm a bit worried about but will talk about it later.

Oh, and it's a BOY! :D

LAF77 · 22/08/2011 18:51

Yay milky how exciting! I think that there is always something to worry about when you are pg after mc.

Kat did they diagnose you with APA?

I'm feeling really blurgh today. I barfed on the toilet seat this morning as it came out of nowhere and don't feel like eating dinner.

I don't know if I should watch the horizon show about the most important 9 months of your life or not. Maybe it will freak me out.

kat2504 · 22/08/2011 18:53

LAFF I had one positive test and one borderline test. But I had the borderline test done when I was already pregnant so they have decided to err on the side of caution and assume I have APA. Clexane and aspirin have been prescribed. At least I have got somewhere with the testing so that is a relief in itself.

Velvetcu · 22/08/2011 20:13

hellooo ladies

just popping in to say congrats for good scans and give hugs to those who need them and also to let you know that owlbooty gave birth to baby Robin so top of the list moves to PrettyVacant for the grads thread :)

LAF77 · 22/08/2011 21:05

Caved in and am watching the 9 months that made us. Anyone else doing the same?

kat2504 · 23/08/2011 09:49

I watched it this morning. Quite interesting really, but suppose I will have to eat something more nutritious than crunchy nut cornflakes at that rate.

Spellcheck · 23/08/2011 09:54

moomin how are you today?? When I MC'd the blood never went brown, old blood is surely a good sign, as is a closed cervix. My friend bled bright red all through her pregnancy. The waiting and not knowing, just getting through every minute, is horrendous. Sit on that sofa and do not move. Thinking of you. x

Hi Ladies, hope everyone is ok today.

Thanks Scarlet and Spellcheck. You're both right, the old blood is a good sign. It was very alarming when it turned bright red yesterday morning, hence the panic, but it quickly turned brown again. Back to brown spotting today.

Called the EPU this morning to book my 2nd BHCG blood test for tomorrow, midwife was with a patient and said she'd find yesterdays result, and call me back. She eventually called back half an hour ago, and said that I didn't actually need the 2nd test, just to come for the scan as planned on Thursday, as this would be the one conclusive test that they could do. She said that my HCG level was within the normal range (39378 at 6w 5d), but of course I had to check on Dr Google (I know, I know!). I'm doing some serious mentalling about the scan, but so glad that I've got the first one of the day at 8.30am. I'm swinging from feeling quite postive, as I'm feeling horrendously sick, and the HCG level was ok, to worrying about the fact that I've been bleeding for nearly 4 weeks and convincing myself that it's a blighted ovum! I will have to find something non-strenuous to keep my little mind occupied tomorrow.
