Dachs I agree a small amount if self-limited googling is ok, but after that you need to step away as even though you'll be looking for good news you'll also find bad and end up focusing on that. Well, that's what I'd do (((hugs))) while you wait
Pink I can imagine each BFP is great news but also self-pressure to get one too. The Oracle did say everyone, and there aren't a limited amount to go around x
Wombat I hope you get the results today and they give you some peace of mind. It's such a difficult time not knowing
Envy @ AandR glad you're having a fab time

HK that's great news!!! Am I allowed to be Grin not :) ?

TMI alert: I seem to be getting bad constipation and/or wind Blush Blush I seem to get the urge to go, but then nothing happens, and it seems to spread to pressure on my bladder/cervix which feels 'wrong'. I've been swigging lactulose but not helping. Did anyone else have this?

DachshundsWantPuppies · 18/01/2011 13:29

orange i understand it's one of the effects progesterone can have...

PinkIsACheeseAddict · 18/01/2011 13:30

Hhehe I AM eeyore! "good morning pooh bear, if it is a good morning, which I doubt....." Grin the likeness is actually quite disturbing!!

PinkIsACheeseAddict · 18/01/2011 13:31

DachshundsWantPuppies · 18/01/2011 13:33

pink you must be my fictional character twin - i am def also an eeyore

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 18/01/2011 13:33

orange constipation is v v common in pg and can feel really strange...chalk it up as a good symptom!

pink I feel a bit the same! Just remember there are a few of us oldies still left and our time will come.

Thanks Grin I was worried about the bladder/cervix thing but I suppose they are so close to each other

Wombat33 · 18/01/2011 14:28

Orange I'm experiencing bladder/cervix type pain too. No constipation here though. When I had the same thing l;alst time round the doc said it is just because everything is a bit sensitive down there with the uterus swelling/stretching and it's all very crammped and close together until the uterus rises up out of the pelvic area at about 12 weeks. Am hoping that's right (and stressing also!) Grin

OrangeGloss · 18/01/2011 15:12

Thanks Wombat Grin that makes me feel better

Gaaahh just wish I knew what was happening in there

I'm up to Biscuit Biscuit today
Yesterday Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit

owlbooty · 18/01/2011 15:47

I've reached Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit so far. Howzat??

Wombat33 · 18/01/2011 15:47

Right peeps. I've got my results.

I think they're okay. At least, I don't think they're bad, but I'm not totally sure Confused

My blood HCG level at (I think) 24 dpo is:

24041 iu/L

All the HCG levels I see quoted on the internet are in miu/mL not iu/L. Most sources I can find seems to say that 1 miu/mL = 1 iu/L but other places say that 0.1 miu/mL = 1 iu/L.

Also from the internet I've found sites saying that at 24 DPO, the average HCG level is 2637 mIU/ml, with a typical range of 540-10,000 mIU/ml.

So I think it's good news... can anyone shed any further light?? I know we've got scientiscts on here Grin

Got a second test on Friday, so will get those results a week today.

owlbooty · 18/01/2011 15:47

Also; hoorah! Nice one, HK , getting the bfp ball rolling again there Grin

cep · 18/01/2011 15:51

hi everyone,

aandr go and enjoy you're holiday. Grin

orange constipation and wind are definately normal in pregnancy, you tend to ge thte funny feeling in cervix too as obviously things are going to be changing in there.

pink dachs iggy i'm sorry that you're feeling low today. Hopefully you can start feeling a bit more positive soon.

dachs i think it's normal to keep checking google. i keep staring at fertility friends i don't know why cause it's not like it's changing itself.

hk congrats. Grin

wombat unless we've xposted i assume you haven't heard yet. in which cause fx for tomorrow.

cep · 18/01/2011 15:53

ok wombat we did xpost. Grin i don't know much about levels but it sounds good and high.

cep · 18/01/2011 16:00

wombat just had a quick look and found the same thing as you. which sounds good. so yeeeay. where do they test these? i never had one in either of my pregnancies.

and aandr it should be your holiday not you are holiday. Blush

DachshundsWantPuppies · 18/01/2011 16:09

womby I know nothing about biology, but 1 miu/ml would definitely be 1 iu/l not 0.1 iu/l. And I think it is meant to roughly double every day, although I don't know whether that continues later into the pg or whether it is just the first few days, so they'll be looking for Friday's reading to be a lot higher than today's.

OrangeGloss · 18/01/2011 16:12

Wombat that looks good. Is the next test to check for increase? I hope time goes quickly for you

Cep thanks for info. I haven't had a successful pg so don't know what 'normal' is

MIL just rang cheered me up a bit. Gaaahh 5 days, 15 hours to go. Not that I have it on timer on my phone Blush

Wombat33 · 18/01/2011 16:28

Ooh Orange that's not too long to go now!!!! I';m keeping everything crossed it's good news for you xxx

Dachs thanks - that's what my hubby said. But then my levels would be 10x the average for my stage of pg and more than double the highest end of normal range. That surely can't be right?! I'm guessing there must be a typo in the results.

and before anyone suggests it... I have looked and 24000 would even be a bit high for twins... Wink

OrangeGloss · 18/01/2011 16:49

Sorry for thread-hogging, but I was thinking if I has a scan tomorrow, they would be able to tell if the pg had failed? It might still be inconclusive but I'm not sure if it's making me worse sat at home waiting

My scan on 9th measured me at around 5 weeks, so I'll possibly be 6+3 tomorrow

What does everyone think? Sorry, think I'm going a bit insane here Confused somebody slap me please!!

Wombat33 · 18/01/2011 16:52

Orange if it was me I'd do it because (for me - you may feel differently) if it was inconclusive I couldn't get any more worried than I already am and it might put my mind at rest. HOWEVER, if you think getting an inconclusive result is going to make you feel even worse then don't do it.

owlbooty · 18/01/2011 16:54

It might be bang in range if you were a couple of days out with your Ov date though - if this chart is telling the truth. What if you are actually more like 6 + 0 instead of 5 + 3?

owlbooty · 18/01/2011 16:59

And - Orange obviously it's completely up to you but if it was me I wouldn't do it. At 6 + 3 it's still very up in the air as to what you see and whether they would be able to tell you very much at all - if you can bear to hold on I'd wait it out. I know it's tortuous.

MummyAbroad · 18/01/2011 17:02

Hi wombat,

I just dug out my old notes for you as I had dozens of these tests when I had a suspected partial molar pregnancy after mc.

My results came with the "normal" ranges chart which says:

Pregnant => 30

gestational weeks range in mUL/mL
1.3-2 16-156
2-3 101-4870
3-4 1110-31500 this is you right?
4-5 2560-82300
5-6 23100-15100
6-7 27300-233000
7-11 20900 -291000
11-16 6140-103000
16-21 4720-80100
21-39 2700-78100

Basically the ranges are huge, so you cant really tell a lot by them. But you ARE within normal range. (I think mUL = UL) As Dach said, the really important thing is to compare with the number taken 48 hours later. It should be roughly double.

I think the only thing that would be worrying at this stage (first blood test) is if the number were really LOW. Low numbers can indicate an ectopic. So at least a high number is good news from that point of view.
Sorry that you have to wait another 48 hours for reassurance, but that test really is the clincher.

If you are still worried about the mUL/UL thing, then give the clinic where you got the test a quick call and ask them to confirm.

xxxx

PinkIsACheeseAddict · 18/01/2011 17:02

orange I guess it depends on whether having an inconclusive result will stress you out more than waiting-it would me. I'd rather wait until they would definitely be able to say either way as knowing how my anxiety levels soar even when I'm waiting for the imaginary second line to appear on the pee stick, I can't imagine going for more scans than absolutelynecessary, and an inconclusive result would send me into a new dimension ofparanoiac. But if inconclusive means you stay the same as you are now though, maybe do it. Anxiety definitely isn't doing you or the bean any good though so I would do whatever is most likely to give you reassurance. Maybe get a massage or something similar to relax you instead of a private scan???

Chloe55 · 18/01/2011 17:07

Congrats HKB! That's brilliant news.

AndI seem to have forgotten everything else!! Blush

I do remember the chat about a French Fish Study though which looked very confusing so I will take your word for it and keep my fingers crossed for me and everyone else wanting a BFP this time round.

Full of cold Sad It's ovulation week too so I will have to put the fact I feel like crap to one side and get some naughty underwear on Wink
