Christmas

I know this is early but are we going to have an MN Christmas Appeal this year?

Just thought I would ask as the last one was launched on 1st Oct last year.

I suppose I am saying that if no-one more competent and organised than me comes forward, I am prepared to do it. But would like to speak to Soapbox, LL or StG for pointers before launch iyswim.

I find myself quite time rich over the next few weeks while my security clearance is processed for my new job.

So Wadda we think?

i'm in this year, and will be more organised this year - however would prefer vouchers Haven't really been keeping up with who's in need/not, i'm an oldie & have been involved from the start if you need to check i'm not a new person (was DTM, SIME and munz)

I felt absolutely terrible last year being involved in the christmas swap. I am not a person who receives charity well,, despite having lots of reason to do so I suppose. But the fact I was a moldie and then cast as the evilest bitch on earth - I felt for that alone I was undeserving of receiving any gifts. I felt guilty and I felt as though the people who had sent me gifts resented it just because I was a moldie and I am sorry for bringing this up but it really made me feel like shit and I already felt guilty that some lovely people had given their time, money and effort to give something to me and my family and we were so grateful and so touched during a very difficult period for us as a family. I hope if it does take part it is done in the spirit it was intended. Poor Saintgeorge was given little thanks last time, though I know for a fact she did out of the goodness of her heart anyway but I felt her feelings were disregarded after it all.

Oh Angry

I know for my part, I couldn't have given a sh*t if I gave to Moldie, or even teddy bear girl, people needed in some way or other and I was willing to give.

Thinking about it, one of the few Christmas presents still played with now was a gift from an MNer. (Thank you Greyskull )

I'm sorry that you felt like that, angry - but there was a whole thread saying thank you. And the thanks were for StG as well as for those who had given (I've just checked).

Unless I missed anything I didn't see her being cast as a baddie.

And in case it wasn't said loud enough, I will say again - many thanks to StG, as well as to Little Lapin and Soapbox for previous years, for all the hard work that they did.

As I, and others have said over the years, it is one of the best things that MN does and it makes me proud to be a community member.

Please can we all bury the Moldies thing now and remember that we are all members here - and all equals - and if some need help others are only too glad to give it.

I really don't care who is a mouldie or not, and would rather leave that whole issue out of this thing. I am sure there were mouldies who gave and received last year, as in previous years, and I don't think that matters one jot.

Please don't feel bad Angry

And yes, there is a risk that gifts may go to people like Babyjjbaby or cvq, but when you weigh that up against the good that is done, I think it is worth doing anyway.

People may also give or receive from someone they have had words with on here.

It doesn't matter

Norma, maybe start a new thread and hopefully no one will mention mouldies.

FWIW, I couldnt give a toss who was a mouldie or not.

I recieved a coat from a lovely m'netter last year through this. And it was very well recieved too as she was desperate for one then.

well I don't think I'll have a choice but to send to someone I've had words with - not sure there's many I haven't crossed before

I'm in, will help with getting into the Spirit, with the Husband in Iraq, reading the thank-you threads in previous years was always guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Well done Norma.

BIWI, re the thanks, I have to say I was a little upset to be honest with you.

I didn't run the appeal last year with any expectation of thanks - but I didn't expect personal insults and threats either, both of which I received.

I spent a lot of my time saying thank you to people on behalf of recipients because those recipients basically couldn't be arsed to do it themselves despite me gently prompting them. And I am not talking about privacy issues or anything else, I mean simple plain ungratefulness and greed.

The appeal near as damn ruined my holiday season last year. Never ever again.

And one last word on the moldies issue - funny isn't it how people spend weeks of their lives doing stuff for folk and then become a social pariah simply for posting on another website .

I don't live here under this name any more (though am still very much about) but wanted to be recognisable to say something about (though well over it now LOL)

I was one of the people hurt at the time but it had nothing whatsoever to do with the appeal, the appeal is a fabulous thing and certainly made my Christmas the year we were recipients.

StGeorge that is so crap that you got that, I am praying I said thank you for organisiing the people to send to for us, threats is so bizarre it is awaful, but I know a Mum who left the PTA for the same reason- parents threatening her becuase of how money was allocated, fuckwittery at the highest level.

Norma well done, if you want any help just CAT and I will try my best (and let you in on my pseudonym-of-the-week LOL)

Nice eh?

Imagine receiving a card on Christmas Eve, addressed to 'The Mner of the House'.

Aw sweet, you think, someone thought of me.

Then you open it and find 'drop dead bitch' written in red ink capitals inside it.

Made my day that did.

Peachy sweetheart, you said thanks more than once

Sorry if I sound a little bitter but funnily enough the events of last Christmas got to me a bit. Even without the whole moldies fiasco I would have jumped ship and left MN - all because of the crap over the appeal. Hence the fact that I am rarely around now (still can't keep away completely though lol)

OMG SG why are some people so bloody vile ?
I am always full of admiration for anyone who steps up to this huge task , which done in the spirit it is meant is a great thing , that the few choose to ruin it.

Norma think you need to think carefully about taking this on i guess

Fuck em, imagine all the good karma you've got coming for doing the appeal, and imagine all the crap they've got coming for sending that.
