I usually go but I am sick (pg) I reserved everything last night so all he knew was to take the number and come back with what they gave him .

He has spent a £130.00 and got everything that was on the but we also now have a

HSM PHone

HSM laptop

HSM light up mirror

HSM floor cushion

HSM singing tothbrush

HSM make up set

HSM washbag

At first I thought it was someone elses shopping that he had got by mistake but it is all on the list and at the side of all the HSM stuff it all says 0.00!

So wwyd I feel bad because someone is going to get into trouble but on the other hand dd loves HSM so truthfully would you keep it or take it back.

Also dp paid in cash so they are not going to debit a card later or anything .

But she has rung them now. it's in their hands isn't it whether they can be bothered to come and collect them. If they don't wahooo for dd.

Dottoressa · 01/11/2008 17:44

Custardo, I don't understand your post ("oh hardly dottorsess if argos staff were this useless on a regular basis they would be out of business, and might think about treating staff better, giving them better traINING ANd having better calibur staff before that point."

My point was that if people get away with unintentional freebies, companies simply put their prices up for everyone in order to compensate for missing stock!

Tortington · 01/11/2008 17:54

my point was that if this went on a large scale that the company would be out of business through its own incompetance way before prices would be put up

which in itself is bollocks because - not only do they factor in losses - they have to remain competetive.

peachygirl · 01/11/2008 17:57

I've not read the whole thread but I think that if an item comes up on the till and therfore the reciept as a lower price they have to give it to you at that price.

I once was charged 1p for some baby socks in MandS and they HAD to let me have them at that price.

Yanda · 01/11/2008 18:06

I wouldn't even ask on mumsnet as of course some people are going to say that you should take it back and some are going to say keep it. Its your decision at the end of the day and a question of your own morals. If it were me, I would think "Thank you every much Mr Argos" and put it all away for Christmas. I make no apologies for my lack of morals when it comes to big companies.

UpJacobscreek · 01/11/2008 18:08

I can't see them been free gifts as I didn't order anything to do with HSM this week ,I have 5 dc and do my xmas shopping in stages so today was the turn of my two younger dd's and it was some baby annabell stuff ,scooby doo and Dr who stuff .

I will wait and see if they ring me back.

UpJacobscreek · 01/11/2008 18:12

Oh and just to add before anyone asks "well why didn't dp notice that it was hsm stuff "

Because I reserved it and just rang him at work this morning with the reservation number he just assumed it was HSM stuff for our other dd. .

I would have phoned and say, come get the free booty!

My Tesco had value Jaffa Cakes on sale for £60 the other day, lol. Someone had added 2 extra 00s!

Simplysally · 01/11/2008 18:26

I've just read the thread but I'd have done the same - query it. I couldn't keep it all unless I'd taken some steps to clarify the situation.

I'm all for freebies but not on this scale.

ninedragons · 02/11/2008 09:29

Ordinarily I'd at least query it, but given the article in the Guardian this week about Argos's store card with an APR of 227% (yes, no decimal point, two hundred and twenty-seven per cent), fuck them, I'd keep it.

Eniddo · 02/11/2008 09:43

I'd flog it on ebay (emphatically do not want laods of hsm shite in the house)

Eniddo · 02/11/2008 09:44

227%

ninedragons · 02/11/2008 09:49

Sorry, my mistake, 222.7% not 227%

It's the same as if I scraped my shopping trolley down the side of an Aston Martin Vanquish that I knew for a fact belonged to the former CEO of Lehman Brothers. I'd laugh myself silly and then send a photo of it to my friend who saw her job, her wages and her options vanish into nothing overnight.

Criminals shouldn't expect to benefit from the decency of the rest of us.

Peachy · 02/11/2008 12:34

For those who didnt see my earier post

Argos would not lose out

they just wouldnt pay the supplier

which means it potentially is a small or struggling business that loses out.

A good mate of Dh's used to see via them and they refused to pay for so many sold then damaged items *they were made of glass and their warehouses kept smashing them) he had to stop dealing with them or go out of business.

They cover their arses.

ninedragons · 02/11/2008 13:21

I would bet you anything that Disney have negotiated far more favourable terms & conditions than your DH's friend. HSM is not exactly a cottage industry.

Peachy · 02/11/2008 13:33

Oh I know (well I didnt know who disney contract out to or if in house or whatever) but there are loads of 'well its argoss and they're big so....' posts on here

GreenMonkies · 13/11/2008 11:28

What happened in the end?

Did they collect it?

bozza · 13/11/2008 11:41

I think what you have done is perfectly acceptable. No reason why you should be put out for their error. And no way I would go into Argos voluntarily for something that would in no way benefit me.

RTKangaMummy · 13/11/2008 12:05

put ARGOS into here and you will get your local number or the 0845 number

I know you have rung them but if anyone else needs to ring them then use this site

RTKangaMummy · 13/11/2008 12:07

drat the link didn't work properly

Flier · 17/11/2008 11:10

so did they pick it up from you, jacobscreek?

eltham · 17/11/2008 16:04

On a somewhat grander scale..Northern Rock once tried to convince us that we owed £30,000 less on our mortgage than we did (we'd drawn down this money as a loan and rather then adding it to our mortgage, they deducted it!) No wonder they ended up in trouble? It took 3 days of ringing them back and saying 'no really it's very nice of you but we do owe this!)
Couldn't handle the thought of being chased in our old age for the money plus interest!

hunnybun1981 · 18/11/2008 12:47

keep them if someone stupid staff member give it in error then thats there fault they tick the stuff off the receipt in argos so i wouldnt worry at all.

people comment on lack of morals wise up

bit different if u had found someones wallet or purse on the street this was given to you on your receipt so just keep

sell it on ebay if no good to you

hellion · 18/11/2008 14:06

I would keep it - if you take it back you will either encounter a barage of questions about how you didn't pay for the stuff in the first place or complete indifference about the fact that you have been honest enough to return it.

Bramshott · 18/11/2008 14:28

Well done for doing the right thing!! Now crossing fingers that they don't call you back !!!
