I usually go but I am sick (pg) I reserved everything last night so all he knew was to take the number and come back with what they gave him .

He has spent a £130.00 and got everything that was on the but we also now have a

HSM PHone

HSM laptop

HSM light up mirror

HSM floor cushion

HSM singing tothbrush

HSM make up set

HSM washbag

At first I thought it was someone elses shopping that he had got by mistake but it is all on the list and at the side of all the HSM stuff it all says 0.00!

So wwyd I feel bad because someone is going to get into trouble but on the other hand dd loves HSM so truthfully would you keep it or take it back.

Also dp paid in cash so they are not going to debit a card later or anything .

If they are on the receipt then it's not like you have stolen them and I would keep it.

is it the same receipt or a diff one? 1 or 2 receipts?

MrsMattie · 01/11/2008 14:25

I'm all for keeping cash you find on the pavement, and I even eat grapes without paying for them in the supermarket ...but I'd feel a bit uncomfortable about keeping such a large stash of booty. I don't know why. I think I'd store them away and see if anyone contacted me. Honest answer.

UpJacobscreek · 01/11/2008 14:25

No Bree I just gave him the reservation number and he just assumed I had bought them for dd it was only when he got home when he realised .

OP posts:
daftpunk · 01/11/2008 14:25

UpJacobscreek · 01/11/2008 14:25

All on same receipt.

FlameNPumpkins · 01/11/2008 14:26

I would keep them

I would probably bung a couple of the bits in the xmas gift thingy to make it seem less mean

scorpio1 · 01/11/2008 14:26

thats a good idea Flame

ShowOfHands · 01/11/2008 14:27

"They are on hte receipt. It may be a cock up, but it is not your fault and you haven't stolen anything"

That's very wishy washy as an argument. It's not your fault they made the mistake but it's up to you to make a choice about what you do now. It's your decision entirely. If you choose to keep them then that's what you choose to do, but don't justify it with their original error/I hate Argos anyway/they once did xyz to abc.

Theft is dishonest appropriation with the intention to permanently deprive.

You are not being honest and you intend to keep the items. It is theft imho.

UpJacobscreek · 01/11/2008 14:28

I could do that Flame that is a good idea .

nappyaddict · 01/11/2008 14:29

How is it theft when she has been given the items though?

Majeika · 01/11/2008 14:30

LOL at showofhands being in a complete minority!

good for you soh! and we all know that we are wrong but we all want to keep the stuff!

UpJacobscreek · 01/11/2008 14:31

Majeika · 01/11/2008 14:31

ok give away to the gift thing a couple of things and wrap some up for dd............

bythepowerofgreyskull · 01/11/2008 14:32

I would dial 141 then call the store to ask if they can explain the error.

The items may be legitimately yours!

if after that it is a mistake then you need to decide what to do but by dialing 141 they don't know anything about you.

Peachy · 01/11/2008 14:32

I'd take it back tbh (although if you reserved online technically they have your address)

Actually I wouldn't go in Argos voluntarily at this time of the year (am mega narked at parents requesting Argos vouvhers for that reason LOL)- I'd telephone them, tell them you had a few bits and tell them can come to collect it. I would imagine if you do that you are covered legally and morally iyswim.

hercules1 · 01/11/2008 14:33

Officially it is theft as soon as you realised you had something you shouldnt.

DoNotAttempttoblowupparliament · 01/11/2008 14:33

Return it with teh argos numbers on teh packaging (without reciept; they accept the numbers as POP). Ask for a refund..then you are £100 cash in your pocket...quids in.

I still say keep it.

Majeika · 01/11/2008 14:34

lol

piratecat · 01/11/2008 14:34

by the power, thats a good idea.

DoNotAttempttoblowupparliament · 01/11/2008 14:34

Sorry I should have put a huge I am joking as the *last line of that post

ShowOfHands · 01/11/2008 14:34

It isn't theft in the traditional sense. I shouldn't have used it as a term I suppose. However, she wasn't 'given' them. Somebody made a mistake, one that she seems to have benefitted from. For her to truly benefit from it she has to make a decision which I believe to be morally dubious.

Quite apart from keeping something that isn't yours, there is the issue of consequences you may not be aware of. Those toys are probably meant for somebody else. The hapless member or staff who incorrectly gave them out could be in serious trouble for an honest mistake. Fair enough he'd still be in trouble if she returned them I suppose. The crux for me is that they're not hers. It doesn't matter whether Argos accidentally gave them out or a friend left it in you house by error. If you know it's not yours and you know who it belongs to, you give it back.
