I usually go but I am sick (pg) I reserved everything last night so all he knew was to take the number and come back with what they gave him .

He has spent a £130.00 and got everything that was on the but we also now have a

HSM PHone

HSM laptop

HSM light up mirror

HSM floor cushion

HSM singing tothbrush

HSM make up set

HSM washbag

At first I thought it was someone elses shopping that he had got by mistake but it is all on the list and at the side of all the HSM stuff it all says 0.00!

So wwyd I feel bad because someone is going to get into trouble but on the other hand dd loves HSM so truthfully would you keep it or take it back.

Also dp paid in cash so they are not going to debit a card later or anything .

Nbg - surely they'd get into trouble whether the stuff went back or not though.

Dottoressa · 01/11/2008 17:05

TAKE IT BACK!!!! (Or get your DH to...)

I am shocked by the number of people who think it's okay to keep this stuff. I once bought something in Ikea, and I didn't realise that the box I picked up in teh warehouse contained four of the said item - and nor did the cashier. I couldn't believe it when I got home - and accordingly took the extra three back on my next Ikea trip. FGS, I took a lemon back to Safeway when DD stuffed it into the buggy behind my back!!!

If the dishonesty of keeping goods you haven't paid for doesn't get you, then how about the fact that the till will be out at the end of the day, and someone will be in trouble?

I am thoroughly

(And why does being honest make you a Daily Mail reader? I can only pity our children growing up in this very, very strange world...)

TheBestMum · 01/11/2008 17:07

Def keep at all - their f*ck up not yours!

SoupDragon · 01/11/2008 17:09

"goods you haven't paid"

Except these appear on the receipt as costing 0.It's not the same as picking up a box of 4 in Ikea and no on noticing, it's not the same as someone shoving a lemon in the buggy.

SoupDragon · 01/11/2008 17:10

anyway, UpJacobsCreek has phoned the national helpline and said they are welcome to collect them.

Nemoandthefireworks · 01/11/2008 17:12

honestly think I would keep it. Espcially as it was scannd at 0.00 and also will have been checked not only by till person but person in warehouse and the person who hands it over at the desk. So 3 lots of people have looked and thought it was fine to give..happy christmas to dd

Tortington · 01/11/2008 17:12

i completely don't get honesty towards large companies who fuck up

its not like you lifted anything 0 which is the all important 'intent' in my book

i dont get the " OH MY GOD"ness of it all

OH MY GOD, i can;t believe you actually rang them

jesus h christ

cheekysealion · 01/11/2008 17:16

keep it

i hate argos, they wouldnt replace my faulty microwave which blew up after 5 months, so i left it there on the counter...

ledodgy · 01/11/2008 17:19

Keep it I used to have a Saturday job there. They treat the staff like crap. Also as it's billed as 00 their tills will still add up so no one will get a bollocking for it.

Nbg · 01/11/2008 17:19

Well they would, but its not as bad if someone takes it back. The store won't have lost anything.

When it comes to a store audit, the manager is expected to acheive a good result.
If their stock and takings don't add up then peoples jobs are on the line.

It may sound ott and dramatic but its true.
I've been a shop girl and a manager and I've seen people sacked and suspended for things like this.

But UJC has done right in calling. She's left the ball in Argos' court. They know about it now, its up to them what they do.

cheekysealion · 01/11/2008 17:20

keep it

ledodgy · 01/11/2008 17:20

are you sure it wasn't buy one get one free?

ledodgy · 01/11/2008 17:21

you get make up case fee when you get this

JohnnyTwoHats · 01/11/2008 17:23

Not getting into whether it is right or wrong- but WHY would the till be out if the items were scanned at 0.00?

ledodgy · 01/11/2008 17:24

look here alot of them have offers with them online it may be different in the store I reckon they're free extras iyswim.

Dottoressa · 01/11/2008 17:25

I am obviously in a minority, which is depressing.

Re. big companies: if everyone has that attitude, we all pay for it in the end with higher prices. Thanks a lot!

nappyaddict · 01/11/2008 17:26

you get a make up case free with this too

Tortington · 01/11/2008 17:28

maybe if the staff are that incompetant they need sacking, not feeling sorry for people who cant do their jobs.

ledodgy · 01/11/2008 17:29

I honestly think they are free gifts hence being out through as 0 there are alot of offers on with their HSM stuff and considering you spent £130 it makes sense you got quite alot of stuff free.

ledodgy · 01/11/2008 17:29

*put

Tortington · 01/11/2008 17:30

oh hardly dottorsess if argos staff were this useless on a regular basis they would be out of business, and might think about treating staff better, giving them better traINING ANd having better calibur staff before that point.

ShowOfHands · 01/11/2008 17:33

Dotoressa, it is depressing.

The Daily Mail thing was me. I wasn't saying honesty was Daily Mail-ish, I was being self-deprecating about the tongue in cheek 'state of the country' generalisation.

Good on you for phoning UJC.

I don't think the logistics matter. It's a simple situation. You are in possession of something you didn't pay for, you know there was a mistake, you have the power and the moral fibre () to fix it. You make all reasonable attempts to rectify the situation (a phonecall in this case) and if they're not interested then fine. At least everybody's clear.

TheOtherMaryPoppins · 01/11/2008 17:35

Free gifts? I doubt that, the OP would have seen when reserving them online that they were free as you have to order them too anyway.

Whenever I order from Argos, even with a reservation no. they always say at the end of inputting your order, so that's an X at £x etc... surely it should have flagged up there to either your OH or the staff member?

I even gave back a £1 jar of coffee to my tesco man this morning as I hadn't ordered it, never mind almost £100 of goods.
I think I would take them back or donate them to local Xmas gift charity drive, probably the latter.

TheOtherMaryPoppins · 01/11/2008 17:36

meant to ask, what it was you DID order op?
