So regularly perusing the waitrose app 👀👀😄

I do like it, but that awkward bit where it's too warm to put the heating on, but you feel a bit chilly indoors (cold floors etc) is a PITA. It goes on for too long, but then who wants to spend money on heating before you really have to!

Can't dry any washing either.

Usually I'm so desperate for winter and Christmas after summer that I kind of by pass autum. Last year I put my Christmas decorations up on the 1st October! This year for some reason I have calmed down a bit and decided to embrace autum. I bought a few autum home decor pieces earlier in the year to put up to hopefully stop me going so early with the Christmas decs again. I plan to put the autum bits out sometime next week. I'm busy tomorrow and Sunday, but where I am anyway it's supposed to be 26 degrees. Hardly autumnal! 😅

I know what you mean, ive already put away the summer wardrobe and was sweating in my jumper today 😅

I'm too scared to put away the fan lest I tempt another heatwave to start - but ive got the windows open and theres a nice breeze at night x

Don’t love the colder days but love between now and Christmas yay! It’s very much a build up to Halloween with a build up to Christmas in the background then as soon as Halloween is done its full on Christmas mode.

Im well on my way with my shopping, not as far as I’ve been in the past but I have a good haul and know exactly what I need to buy. Now DCs are back at school I will start wrapping next week so I can put presents away, currently they are scattered around the house.

Santas booked, I left it too late last year. I thought I was quick off the mark this year but literally got the last time slot for the day I wanted the day after tickets went on sale.

Ive already decided to scale down the indoor decorations this year. We have lots of trees, themes, that we rotate and fill the house with but Ive decided I don’t want the hassle of keeping on top of it all, especially in the kids rooms so scaling it back a bit.

It’s the first time I bought myself a beauty calendar which I ordered this week. My DDs have already been eying up what they want to claim 😂 All DDs have also chosen their calendars, thankfully they will be easy ones and shouldnt be too sought after.

Tonight I’ve actually been scrolling looking for the perfect cracker fillers. Last year was the first time I made our own and everyone loved the treats I picked just for them, so I’m going to try doing the same again this year.

We are going to our local garden centre today to buy some autumn decorations I’m very excited!!

Love the evenings drawing in and am now thinking I can put the fire on as it’s September! I’ve even had to wear a cardi a few days ago. Autumn is my favourite season and I will change the bunting hanging across the back glass wall overlooking the garden to an autumn garland in about a week (have to go to my storage unit to dig it out). I have a matching wreath but I remember a few trick ‘o treaters asking why I had a Christmas wreath up already (it’s got orange/red/yellow foliage etc snd definitely does not look Christmassy)!
We are spending Christmas at my son’s house near the sea as he works retail and only gets two days off so easier for us to go to him. Minute kitchen but we shall see how it goes! Kids are young adults and prefer money to gifts but I need to get a few things for under the tree but am stumped.

I opened all my windows earlier when I got up as I thought it was going to be hot. But, the humidity has gone (Yay!) and although it's sunny, there's quite the nip in the air. Almost a bit chilly but I don't want to shut the wondows as I'm enjoying it!

Ooh, let us know what you get Besidemyselfwithworry. Very aptly for today's temperature, I bought myself a autum throw from Amazon last night. Due today. Just need some nice cushion covers to go with it now.

Well the sun has definitely shifted! I was having to close my left side curtain during the summer to protect from direct sunlight. Today I nodded off on the sofa and woke up boiling. The sun had come out and was pouring in the right side of the window onto the sofa!
I did get bored though, I was expecting a vist and they didn't come in the end, so I got my autumn decorations out instead. I've never decorated for autumn before and usually my decor is very pink, but I love the oranges and yellows.

Please don't wish September and October away because of a love of Christmas or indeed the autumn. Preparing and things like decided where and with whom you will be spending Christmas are fine of course, just don't ignore the lovely things about this month and next.

Yes, the baby will be seven months at Halloween. I've done a lot of Googling average head size at that age and measuring the hat! As long as he's average or less, it'll be fine ... !

I enjoy the yearly Almanac by Lia Leendertz, and have just discovered she has a Substack with weekly posts about the changing seasons, so have signed up to the free version of that.

That's lovely of you reallyalurker. I knit but mainly Christmas items, I don't have the skill to know which needles to size up or down to or how to adjust pattern for size. Are you doing the booties too?

I do understand what you are saying LlynTegid, but I just love the wintertime, always have. I don't view it any different to those that look forward to summer in winter and indeed book their summer holidays in the dead of winter! I'm definitely not wishing time away this year. I'm trying to embrace it what with the autum decor.

Hi! I'm starting to get bits of autumn decorations I have out, I like this time of the year as I can tidy the garden up for winter and then focus on the house. I like to add more candles with autumn scents, move things around a bit, add in orange / plum coloured decor and turn on lamps for a cosy feel in the late afternoons / evenings.
When it's rainy outside it gives me time to slow down and potter in the house, bake and generally make it warm and cosy.

I'll probably buy some crafty bits and do an autumnal playlist.

I'm thinking of having a Christmas party this year too with friends, including some of DDs friends (she's 9). So musing over ideas for that!

I love everything about autumn and the countdown to winter. I’ve been blackberry picking today and made crumble and apple sauce to have with roast pork tonight with apples from the garden.
I love a bit of garden centre mooching in autumn, and countryside walks are the best when all the leaves are changing.
We also seem to have some beautiful sunrises and sunsets in September and October and I just love getting up early and dipping in the sea for sunrise when the sky looks like it’s on fire.
Autumn days can be lovely and warm but with nice crispy cooler mornings and evenings, I just love everything about it. The only thing I’m going to buy for the house though is a new St Eval candle, one with a scent inspired by being outdoors in autumn and one of those light up Scandinavian stars that you hang in the window as the shorter days draw in.
