@hotmumshityou've inspired me and I've ordered our grown up advent calendars this evening - a Lakrids by Bulow large chocolate liquorice one (for me and DH, 4 chocolates behind each door 😁) and a champneys one for me as it was on offer and I had a boots voucher that needed using 😆.

The kids will get cheapo ones nearer the time...

It’s mid September.
Are you insane ?

Nope 🤷‍♀️

I usually push the boat out for Christmas but this year I'm hard up (waiting for SSP to kick in and existing on savings). I LOVE Christmas shopping though and am having to sit on my hands so I don't spend non-existent money on lovely things!

I did buy a jigsaw puzzle for one DD (all my kids are adults) but we've got two new babies in the family this year and my restraint is weakening.

This is the Christmas topic.

Scroll on by if you dont like it.

I genuinely cannot imagine going on a thread in any of the specialist topics on the talk board and whinging about whatever folk were talking about and calling them insane. And having the audacity to tell them to Grow Up!?

Ponoka7 · 11/09/2026 12:54

I've bought myself Aldi's version of Baileys in, toffee chocolate and chocolate malt biscuit. The children I buy for want Cash and Robux. I buy for the church collection so will start looking soon. Me and my grandchildren are in Halloween mode, we are ambitiously hoping to make a marionette costume. Glue gun at the ready!

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 11/09/2026 12:59

I have just bought the Good Housekeeping Christmas Collection magazine! Hopefully this year i will actually cook something from it, lol! And I've bought the first present, trainers for my DGD. Have a few Christmas outings booked but not sure what we'll be doing on the day. I always get v excited about Christmas but DH and I have decided to cut right down on presents to each other this year, have quite enough stuff!

Theunsocialmum · 11/09/2026 13:12

Hi All

I'm an autumn and winter lover.

I have started getting the autumn decor and cushions out. On 1st Oct I'll flip these for halloween, then mid November for Christmas.

We've lit the stove a few times already in the last few weeks!

Christmas plans are in full swing and I have started buying DCs presents. I get paid monthly so I'm going to buy different types of presents each month. August was football jerseys, September is board games, October is tracksuits and stocking fillers, November is the main presents.

Both DC want a surprise as their main present. I am clueless this year!

This year will be different as my eldest (12) is now a diabetic. Instead of a traditional chocolate advent calendar, I'm going to make one for them. I need to start buying bits for this.

Edited to add: we have our santa visit booked!

gettingcoldergettingcosier · 11/09/2026 13:12

Good luck with the costume @Ponoka7! We're planning to book a Spooktober Half Term break at Butlins this evening so will need to find some costumes for the kids. We went last year and my older one loved it. I'm not too fussed on Halloween myself but DD likes getting into the spirit and breaks up the time before Christmas 🎃🎆🎄

I spent £8 on a similar one last year - was expensive but I might do it again

Plus a radio times

It was £7.99, worth it but I'll be buying fewer Christmas mags this year than I normally do!

hotmumshit · 13/09/2026 11:20

Sorry for being mia

Haven't been very christmassy the past few days but I am now on christmastok and I am checking out peoples visit to the home bargains christmas event and feeling more myself

This week I want to go to
The new m&s in Central london - apparently big christmas vibes
A big homebargains

Whilst dc is at school

I live in a tiny flat but its a victorian one with lovely sash windows - i want my tree to be sat in front of it - or maybe in front of the fireplace 🤔

Okay so here is my Christmas perusing of the day

These Laura Ashley lights are duped by The Range for a fraction of the price. Screenshots included

I also found some gold and red fairy lights which seem quite nice

Not sure about these light up gift boxes

Its not worth buying them all but will keep an eye out for that one! And my radio times. Why, when I actually use the app on my phone to check tv listings 😄

Love the time frame, will do something similar

Theres so much I need to do to my flat 😩

Youre so organised! I love the idea of making an advent calendar - would you put little baked goods, or smellies in them?

Haven't booked santa visit but I have an idea - i havsnt found any open yet, so well done!

I need to sort a fireworks event for dd(7) and then the santa visit. Last year she cried at the santa, who i think she knew was the man from the local youth club 😄😩

How old are dc? Would they want a kind of gaming gift maybe? (Sorry, clueless 😄)

Youve done so well, i will buy one present for dd this payday, as well as my wreath!

🎄❤️

Ooo a marionette costume sounds cool! I want to get dd excited for Halloween. I think i will send her as a spooky ghost, but make it cute with her hair in bunches and a ghostly frock with a hood

Will badger dd's new school about Halloween- shes in a sen class so I can imagine it wont be high on their lists of priorities, but i hope they do a little something

Otherwise she will go as supergirl again

The more modern we get its all online gifts isnt it!

I've done most of my buying. Will do some making while recovering, and hope that I can manage all the wrapping. The hard part will be remembering where I've put everything!

Youve done most of your buying, well done! Thats the risk isnt it when you get done early, forgetting things or eating them 😄

Hope your procedure goes very smoothly and you can enjoy resting. You'll likely be caught up on all the autumn dramas!

Youve done well to be this organised - and love that youve crafted stuuff. I'm useless at crafting but saw a tiktok on how to gift wine bottles (using some green foam and sticking flowers in them, then wrapping the bottle in paper) so will try that

I've got to stock up on essentials this month, as per the govt, so will include essential christmas alcohol in that 🤭🤭

I bought this lovely Emma Bridgewater bucket for our daily foraging in the woods. Now that the blackberries have gone over, it's been used to collect sloes, elderberries, rosehips and now conkers! (I pick them while I am waiting for DD to come out of school)

I now have 10 bags each of sloes and blackberries in the freezer along with all the different preserves that I've already made.

Happy Days!

I love this and will try conker picking with dd next weekend!

Hi. I’m an autumn/dark evenings/Halloween/lover of Christmas person. I love how the joy in everyone on this thread shines through (well, almost everyone 🙄). I put my autumn wreath on the front door this morning and got out my new autumn candle holder. All my lovely candles lit last night whilst watching The Voice and Strictly starting next weekend. Heaven x

Musicmummy63 · 13/09/2026 15:33

Hi everyone, I'm loving this thread. This is my absolute favourite time of year. I love autumn and Christmas. I'm a crafter so this year, I have drawn and painted all my Christmas cards and am really pleased with them. I will be making some ornaments too. I have no idea what to buy my 2 grown up DS yet. Its nice to hear other people's preparations and know I'm not the only one!

gettingcoldergettingcosier · 13/09/2026 16:24

I've still not done much for Christmas (tbh, apart from booking things I'm generally a leave buying until December gal, as much as I enjoy the build up).

We have just had a lovely autumnal day out at the local Forestry England place enjoying the play trail and giant marble run. Got the kids new wellies out 😆.

We've also booked a spooktober half term break at Butlins for half term. We went last year and it was loads of fun 🎃👻🧙‍♀️

hotmumshit · 13/09/2026 17:11

Tesco are doing charcuterie boards as gifts this year

Veggie pigs in blankets
Vegan wellington (looks gross to me but each to their own)
Gluten free ginger bread cake
Christmas cupcakes and cupcake kits
Gingerbread house kits
Christmas hampers
Hot chocolate sets
Theyve got a chocolate volcano cake with salted caramel - will be buying that

Sorry, I didn't reply about the booties - yes, going to make them too. I have finished the hat - knitting the leaves was a bit addictive, may have to make some more!

Does anyone have good autumn soup recipes? I have a stock lake to use up. Thinking maybe spiced parsnip.

I made a beef madras the other day

Will feed back about soup recipes i try this week! 👀👀🍂🍂

Have googled - they look lush, although I am not a licorice fan - the champneys one looks good, ive screenshotted it for payday

😄 the chocolate ones never last in our home but this might be the year it does - will search a luxury chocolate one for myself 🤤 - dd will get a cheap one 😩🤭 plus a book one if poss

Hi! I'm starting to get bits of autumn decorations I have out, I like this time of the year as I can tidy the garden up for winter and then focus on the house. I like to add more candles with autumn scents, move things around a bit, add in orange / plum coloured decor and turn on lamps for a cosy feel in the late afternoons / evenings.
When it's rainy outside it gives me time to slow down and potter in the house, bake and generally make it warm and cosy.

I'll probably buy some crafty bits and do an autumnal playlist.

I'm thinking of having a Christmas party this year too with friends, including some of DDs friends (she's 9). So musing over ideas for that!

Love this! 🍂🎄
