Historically this hasn't been my favourite time of year, but I'm really trying to embrace it all! So ive got an autumnal wreath from George at asda and I must say it looks lovely! Also picked up a conker on my walk this week.

Hi All

I'm an autumn and winter lover.

I have started getting the autumn decor and cushions out. On 1st Oct I'll flip these for halloween, then mid November for Christmas.

We've lit the stove a few times already in the last few weeks!

Christmas plans are in full swing and I have started buying DCs presents. I get paid monthly so I'm going to buy different types of presents each month. August was football jerseys, September is board games, October is tracksuits and stocking fillers, November is the main presents.

Both DC want a surprise as their main present. I am clueless this year!

This year will be different as my eldest (12) is now a diabetic. Instead of a traditional chocolate advent calendar, I'm going to make one for them. I need to start buying bits for this.

Edited to add: we have our santa visit booked!

Edited

What type of advent are you making?

I make them for my godchildren but last year was an absolute nightmare! I bought wooden ones from Hobbycraft, painted them - then realised virtually nothing fitted inside the drawers! The girls ones were better than the boys as I could add a bracelet, ring, tiny lip balm etc.

Hi everyone, I'm loving this thread. This is my absolute favourite time of year. I love autumn and Christmas. I'm a crafter so this year, I have drawn and painted all my Christmas cards and am really pleased with them. I will be making some ornaments too. I have no idea what to buy my 2 grown up DS yet. Its nice to hear other people's preparations and know I'm not the only one!

Welcome @TonyDancer 🍂🎄 - youre amongst friends, (one or two detrators pop up and try to ruin our fun, but theyre ejected by mnhq) its the most wonderful time of the year 😍

Omg heaven - strictly back, masterchef and bake off, and the celeb traitors!

I bought some cheap glade candles thatll have to tide me over til I can get some nicer ones - chocolate scent i believe

Are you cooking for cosy season as well? 👀 x

That sounds so fun @gettingcoldergettingcosier - youve just reminded me to sort out a fireworks display for me and dd - the one at alexandra palace has sold out for us! (disabled and carer ticket) so looking elsewhere grumpily. I bet the kids loved getting their wellies on and running around.

Autistic dd has been mentioning Halloween so I think shes getting in the spirit - last year i only got a 'merry christmas' out of her like a week before the day. Very unreasonable of her!

Hi @Musicmummy63, welcome!
Thats amazing that youve drawn and painted your own cards! What things did you go for?

I'm a much happier person this time of year 😄, you should've seen me during the summer, a sweaty miserable mess groaning in front of the fan 🙈🙈

Sorry for spamming up the thread everyone, will try to @ rather than quote ❤️❤️

I’ve started buying the Apple spice Glade candles when I see them. They’re nicer than the expensive ones. No cooking I’m afraid 🤣

Ahhh thank you @hotmumshit ! It's my first as a mum of a very, very long awaited baba, so I'm trying to make it so 💗

The wreath is this one:

£13! (Don't know how quickly pics upload these days)

gettingcoldergettingcosier · 13/09/2026 19:13

Ahhh congratulations @HollyGolightly4!! My advice... buy the cute outfits, do all things and get the photos! Yes people will tell you they're only little and won't remember but you will!

@hotmumshitunpopular opinion on mumsnet but I bloody love fireworks! I'm not sure if we'll book a display this year - they have one at Butlins in half term so we'll watch that, then my inlaws have tended to do a small one in their garden for the kids. But I am tempted now they're getting older, a town near us does a smaller display for the kiddies before the main display so might consider that. Is there somewhere nearby you can watch the Ally Pally ones? I've heard they're meant to be great.

I do like it, but that awkward bit where it's too warm to put the heating on, but you feel a bit chilly indoors (cold floors etc) is a PITA. It goes on for too long, but then who wants to spend money on heating before you really have to!

Can't dry any washing either.

I would recommend a heated clothes dryer. Heats the house a bit and dries the clothes quickly!

HollyGolightly4 · 13/09/2026 23:19

Thank you 😊 💗 I think i will do!

LaurieFairyCake · 14/09/2026 07:27

I’m about to put away my summer wardrobe, I’m completely sick of linen and probably have about 50 linen things. Next year it will all look bright and fresh again but right now I hate it 😂

I’m doing a proper swap this year as I have a new cupboard to put my summer things in so I’m actually going to do ‘outfits’ on a couple of rails and not do what I’ve done previously (have all trousers on one rail, jumpers on one rail) as I want about 20-30 outfits all ‘done’. I’m even considering a shelf above with the matching jewellery for the outfits as I’ve loads of jewellery I’m not wearing.

Oh I love this thread. Adore autumn and got some autumn decor this year which has really cheered me and love the cosy nights with the lamps on and candles lit. I’m waiting for the weather to cool though, I love jeans and a jumper but the afternoons keep heating up and I keep having to change into a T-shirt again.

I’m already pretty prepped for Xmas, I buy bits throughout the year to spread the cost and overwhelm. We also have both kids birthdays in autumn and right before Xmas so I have to be prepared. We have a bed it lifts up with storage underneath and it’s full.

We have our Santa visit booked, polar express train ride, NT illuminations trail and panto all sorted. Again, I book early to spread the cost. Booked one of these per pay day over the last few months.

@hotmumshiti got my son one of those leapfrog gloves for Xmas in really good condition for a fraction of the cost on Vinted.

👋 from previous christmas threads - ive name changed, but i am a mumalone

Hows the knitting going? Christmas chocolate tubs wasnt it?

I feel the same and I am literally looking up autumn lights and candles - i think I might get myself a pumpkin lamp

Plus a wreath for my flat door 😍

I was on the name change threads. I started an unofficial one at one point.

I have one from Lakeland. It is great.

I now have a utility room with a Sheila’s Maid and dehumidifier.

Super happy that we're finally entering the Autumn/Winter times!!! I've already finished my Christmas shopping for my little girl (some odd bits and bobs left to get) 😆😆

Hello 👋
I need this thread. I genuinely do love the cosiness of autumn and I am ALL ABOUT Christmas. But at the same time I'm mourning Summer and desperately longing for Spring!
It's still so hot so I'm feeling in limbo a bit but I've just done a sort out if the kids Sumner clothes and I have bags for Autumn/ Winter which are coming out of storage tomorrow.
My little girl has her birthday near Halloween so I'm looking forward to doing a little toddler not too spooky party for her. Dress up costumes bought yesterday.
Trying to keep an eye on Vinted for some nice scented soy candles. We've git an asthmatic/eczema sufferers in the house so need to be careful what we burn... but the 'good' ones are so expensive!

AnneKipankitoo · 15/09/2026 18:21

I don’t do much for Hallow’een. I did the name change for that a few years in a row.
I did do a pumpkin carving during lockdown and watched it sink so much it looked like the granny in the Giles cartoon.
