@shellyleppard we've removed the photo which had the person in it for you as another Mumsnetter flagged it to us - hope that's useful.

<resists urge to say Merry Christmas 😆>

You what?

ExOptimist · 26/04/2026 22:40

That veiled tree is an abomination, looks like it's been covered in a cloth while painting the room.
I will have the same decorations I've had for the past twenty odd years, with a few more recent additions. I bought good quality ones so they would last. I don't buy plastic ones, all the baubles are glass or metal wire, about half are glass droplets in various shapes, the others are round or stars.

The colours are clear, gold, silver and copper and I have a real tree. Lights are warm white static. If I see a beautiful bauble I'll buy it, a couple of years ago John Lewis had some lovely indented vintage-looking gold glass baubles so I bought a few, but last Christmas I thought they had awful ones.

I used to put lametta on the tree, haven't used tinsel since about 1990, but now just have lights and baubles.

I think it's appalling to just change the colour theme every year and throw away a load of cheap plastic tat every year, such a waste and so bad for the environment.

Nothing. I don't have a Christmas tree and haven't done in around 20 years. I just like buying presents and spending time with my family.

I might have to think about lametta this year for my gold tree

😩 i'd get bored having the same aesthetic every year me

Oooo I’m thinking white and gold this year! Last year I did gold and burgandy. This doesn’t really apply to the tree which has everything but the kitchen sink on it but i theme the mantle, wreath and table decorations, plus have a swag above the back doors to the garden. I have loads of wrapping paper so will try and use predominantly white and gold, but can’t be too strict about it.
I don’t buy many new decs. I have boxes and boxes and can usually cater to whatever theme I’ve got going. The exception would be the wreath as I often make my own.

I think i remember you @Openmouthinsertfood - I remember that you were knitting choc orange covers 🥰

How were they recieved, such a lovely idea - as is chocolate box covers

Oh wow, seems wierd sommeone remembers me! 😅Lol, thank you though. In the end I made Ed Sheeran, a dinosaur, a panda, hot choclate mug, Spock and a gardener. They went downa treat thank you. 😍
I saw the chocolate tub covers at the beginning of the year and have been knitting them since. I recently completed 'Penguin' Party' for my brother. 😁I've done a Halloween/pumpkin theme for one relative and pandas and flowers for another. I've done Father Christmas coming down a chimney and I've got a Christmas scene one that I decided to keep for myself as I really, really like it. 😄
I hope you have lots of fun picking your baubles and decorations for this year. (I haven't caught up on the thread yet, in case you've already chosen. About to read it now.) I was just looking through (Whispers) Temu earlier, searched 'Christmas.' I confess I might have spent a bob or two. 😅

@KimMumsnet thank you very much.

Firstbornunicorn · 27/04/2026 11:20

Only in the Christmas thread is this acceptable 😁😁😁

My theme will be the same as every year. The theme of my Christmas tree is "Christmas" 😂

We have a mix of stuff on the tree, nothing matches, but we have some lovely stories about where we got this or that ornament.

ClassyCuckoo · 27/04/2026 13:02

mumofoneAloneandwell · 26/04/2026 00:28

😄😄 I imagine my dd chucking bluey stuff on the tree if she had her way

Tbh she hasn't been interested in decorating it maybe because I am quite anal about it, no way to tell

I do buy new decs every year 🙈

One year I did a mini Christmas tree that was just lights and tinsel and McDonalds Happy Meal soft toys (that have a little loop on so you can hang them up)

I thought it was funny

I'd love to be able to knit, unfortunately i doubt i'll learn anytime soon

I can't knit either but I can make pompoms!

These colours maybe

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 27/04/2026 13:47

Same as every year, ignore it until early December, send dh into the attic, grab two boxes marked xmas and throw everything on the tree. We did buy a real wreath last year, but i felt guilty ad its still looking fresh on the compost heap.

If you have pets... I wouldn't advise having lametta.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/04/2026 19:47

Much as I would love to get the box full of beautiful glass baubles out , some are 35 years old ....we have two cats who climb the Christmas Tree .
Even undecorated , pre-lit , static lights .
They are the anti-Christmases .

<sigh>

ShortColdandGrey · 28/04/2026 12:41

I came on to look at the people moaning about Christmas being ages away and was not disappointed haha. I watched The Muppets Christmas Carol last week. I have also started buying presents. It might be only April but Christmas is in my heart all year round 🎅

hahabahbag · 28/04/2026 12:45

Perhaps this is the year to not be wasteful then, put together a scheme based on things you already have. You have plenty of time😀

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 28/04/2026 13:39

My Christmas look started as warm white lights with the traditional red, green and gold. Then I started collecting decorations from everywhere we went on holiday so it became mismatched.
Now the tree has coloured lights, random decorations and we have cosy lights and ornaments in the living room with a very loose ‘nature’ theme while the play room is basically filled with bright light up Santa’s and gingerbread men.
I guess my ‘asthetic’ is colourful, slightly vintage-esque Christmas chaos (decs include a bear in a boat, a puffin, a sleigh full of bottles of Coke, a ninja turtle bauble and a carrot) Xmas Grin

I am planning on installing a garden room/office this summer and am thinking I may buy a small white Christmas tree and decorate it with the more boring baubles we don’t use much (would love jewel tones but I can’t buy any more decs, we have loads).

OP do you have storage? Maybe start keeping your decs and rotating them or utilising some from different years to make a new theme? My auntie does this and I think it’s nice that she gets to change things up each year but doesn’t spend (or bin) lots.

butternut123 · 28/04/2026 14:09

I love Christmas and have already started to think about next year. Last year we went all 90s and vintage, I’ll be doing the same this year and have already bought new vintage style led lights which I’ve been after for year. I dont change decor each year, we always stick to quite a traditional theme
