Our theme is "multi-coloured 80s childhood" and consists of last years decorations +1.

OP, if you really cannot bear the sight of last year's decorations, please box them up and pass them on to e.g. a women's refuge or something.

It takes a lot of storage! Its almost embarrassing, we have one huge hamper, plus two smaller hampers, plus a 1970s suitcase, and a mini 1970s suitcase, just full of christmas decorations. Oh and a washing basket of christmas books that DD is too old for, but I keep because they're nostalgic for me.

I dont know how we'll decorate this year, but I do know that we'll have Christmas Day just the three of us and do exactly what we like.

For years we've hosted Christmas for the family, so this year we'll do all the hosting in the run-up, and then on Christmas Day sit in our PJs, watch TV, and eat lobster macaroni cheese on the sofa.

That's the dream!

Well this is it, i do have a loft but I think its full already - i dont actually go up there, just use the ladder and push things in 🙈

And then i have a tiny storage cupboard. I reckon I can properly organise it, and stick boxes of decs in there 🤔

That is the dream - perfect and cosy, as christmas should be! 😍 - its just me, dd and dcat here. Dd is autistic so will have French fries and some of the christmas meat. Dcat will have some meat and an expensive cat dinner. And I'll have a full roast 😄😄😄

Oooo I’m thinking white and gold this year! Last year I did gold and burgandy. This doesn’t really apply to the tree which has everything but the kitchen sink on it but i theme the mantle, wreath and table decorations, plus have a swag above the back doors to the garden. I have loads of wrapping paper so will try and use predominantly white and gold, but can’t be too strict about it.
I don’t buy many new decs. I have boxes and boxes and can usually cater to whatever theme I’ve got going. The exception would be the wreath as I often make my own.

I feel like white and gold is the colour this year!

Yes thats what i'm thinking, its the whole room that counts towards the christmas theme - i feel like wreath making will be too hard for me, but i'd buy a wreath for the main door to the flat - would like gold twinkling lights in the window as well

Oh wow, seems wierd sommeone remembers me! 😅Lol, thank you though. In the end I made Ed Sheeran, a dinosaur, a panda, hot choclate mug, Spock and a gardener. They went downa treat thank you. 😍
I saw the chocolate tub covers at the beginning of the year and have been knitting them since. I recently completed 'Penguin' Party' for my brother. 😁I've done a Halloween/pumpkin theme for one relative and pandas and flowers for another. I've done Father Christmas coming down a chimney and I've got a Christmas scene one that I decided to keep for myself as I really, really like it. 😄
I hope you have lots of fun picking your baubles and decorations for this year. (I haven't caught up on the thread yet, in case you've already chosen. About to read it now.) I was just looking through (Whispers) Temu earlier, searched 'Christmas.' I confess I might have spent a bob or two. 😅

Its alright, I thought it was a really nice idea - sounds so good, especially the ed sheeran one! 😄😍 - would it be too outing to upload a photo? No worries if so

I still haven't bought them, thank you - indoors today so will have a browse online 😍

😄🙈 people are annoyed with me for changing theme every year so I plan to buy good quality, lifetime ornaments for the tree - i'll still be spending on temu though as well

Only in the Christmas thread is this acceptable 😁😁😁

My theme will be the same as every year. The theme of my Christmas tree is "Christmas" 😂

We have a mix of stuff on the tree, nothing matches, but we have some lovely stories about where we got this or that ornament.

I love that 🥰

Traditional and low key in every aspect this year, I feel Christmas is over commercialised now and I love Christmas usually 😂

MsSquiz · 30/04/2026 12:29

My general Christmas aesthetic doesn’t change, but we are hosting family for Christmas lunch so I’m pondering the table and dining room theme.

I'm thinking gingerbread house and candy canes or holly green and berry red

ClassyCuckoo · 27/04/2026 13:02

One year I did a mini Christmas tree that was just lights and tinsel and McDonalds Happy Meal soft toys (that have a little loop on so you can hang them up)

I thought it was funny

I love it 😄 - christmas is for the kids as well, why not

I came on to look at the people moaning about Christmas being ages away and was not disappointed haha. I watched The Muppets Christmas Carol last week. I have also started buying presents. It might be only April but Christmas is in my heart all year round 🎅

Whats your typical aesthetic? Would you go big with the candy canes & gingerbread house decor?

Our usual aesthetic is a bit of a mixed bag. Lots of reds and golds, wooden decorations.
almost every bauble on our tree is different, I collect them. The children are bought a bauble every year to go on the tree and DH buys me a Halcyon Days every year since the year we got engaged. I also have ones passed down from my grandparents and my mum.

we did have our front door decorated last year to something similar to this, which I’ll be repeating this year as the kids and I love it!

for the dining table I like the idea of a gingerbread house centre piece, with the colours of the table tying in with the house (golden browns, white of the icing, etc)

or if I go with the green and red, lots of foliage down the centre of the table with red charger plates, napkins, etc

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 30/04/2026 13:35

@MsSquiz we have similar - main decs stay the same and we just chuck a red cloth on the table as we haven’t had dinner at home for years but we’re hosting my mum this year.

I stumbled on a red and white candy cane style table runner in Dunelm a month or so ago so have that as a starting point. I’m thinking cream/red everything basically, and we’ll be using the Spode Christmas tree dinner set so that will add in green. Hopefully it’ll be vaguely cohesive and not my usual ‘she threw anything sort of Christmas looking on there’ Xmas Grin

MsSquiz · 30/04/2026 13:37

I like this kind of set up too

This year will be our first year of hosting his family (or anyone) in 3 years so I’m hoping DH agrees to a new dining set.

I also like the idea of whatever decorates the table this year can be reused the following year so I don’t want to go too “out there” with my plans, or it will just sit in a box in the garage collecting dust!

The problem is that pets can sometimes eat it, and you end up having to pay for an emergency vet over the Christmas holiday. Confused

Much as I would love to get the box full of beautiful glass baubles out , some are 35 years old ....we have two cats who climb the Christmas Tree .
Even undecorated , pre-lit , static lights .
They are the anti-Christmases .

<sigh>

😄😄

My dcat was good last year, and dd was so hopefully i will be okay, fingers crossed

I once found a tree bauble underneath our cooker in about July. Can't imagine how it got there... 😸

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 28/04/2026 13:39

My Christmas look started as warm white lights with the traditional red, green and gold. Then I started collecting decorations from everywhere we went on holiday so it became mismatched.
Now the tree has coloured lights, random decorations and we have cosy lights and ornaments in the living room with a very loose ‘nature’ theme while the play room is basically filled with bright light up Santa’s and gingerbread men.
I guess my ‘asthetic’ is colourful, slightly vintage-esque Christmas chaos (decs include a bear in a boat, a puffin, a sleigh full of bottles of Coke, a ninja turtle bauble and a carrot) Xmas Grin

I am planning on installing a garden room/office this summer and am thinking I may buy a small white Christmas tree and decorate it with the more boring baubles we don’t use much (would love jewel tones but I can’t buy any more decs, we have loads).

OP do you have storage? Maybe start keeping your decs and rotating them or utilising some from different years to make a new theme? My auntie does this and I think it’s nice that she gets to change things up each year but doesn’t spend (or bin) lots.

This is perfect 🙌🙌

I bet your place feels very christmassy 🥰

I will buy some stacking boxes and stack the tree and three boxes vertically in the airing cupboard, fingers crossed.

Gonna look online tonight for some nice ones 😍
