Firefly lights - do you have a photo - like just one from the internet?

https://www.gatesgardencentre.co.uk/product/festive-firefly-string-lights/

We have these and they twinkle beautifully, rather than flash. Annoyingly I can’t find a video.

Festive 1500 Warm White Firefly String Lights

Festive Firefly String Lights

These stunning Festive Firefly String Lights are available in Warm White or Winter Wishes. Pack sizes include 300, 600, 1000 or 1500 LED bulbs.

This thread is in the 'Christmas' topic though.🙂

Maybe pop over to 'Weddings' and see if you can find anyone planning their nuptials in 18 months' time.😂

In my case I have my own children and a large extended family to think about. One of my children is severely disabled and there is a good chance that when others are preparing for Xmas in the autumn/winter I’ll be sat in a side room on the children’s ward. I check the Christmas board through the year so I’m as prepared as possible so if the worst happens, the other children hopefully won’t miss out and we can have some normalcy for them. They have enough to deal with in their everyday life so I feel better knowing Xmas is a prepped as can be by the time the problematic viruses start circulating in autumn. We have spent weeks in previous years in this situation, battling infections and sepsis.

Having said that, I don’t think there is anything wrong with just loving Christmas and thinking about it at other times in the year. My summer loving friends have been discussing their plans through the winter.

Only a week?!

Thats such a cool talent to have, seriously 🥰🥰

You should send a photo to Ed sheeran, I bet he'd love it, he's cool like that

That guitar was a good addition as well x

Edited

Thank you. I'd have no idea how to send a photo to him, I only 'do' Mumsnet! 😅
I get great delight at not only knitting things, but finding a good embelishment, like the guitar, too! I need to find some snowflakes next for a Christmas project. (A Jellycat hot chocolate dupe on Etsy. I didn't realise it was a dupe, just liked the pattern! )

I was in decluttering mode in the loft the other day and saw the Christmas Tree. This tree is over twenty years old and packed in two storage boxes. It's 6ft tall and probably the same in its girth were I to put all the branches in which I never do! But still looks fab when dressed in all its accumulated decs from the past 20 years.
I want a smaller one so despite others PP saying NNoooooooooH!! The dreaded C word can smack you in the eyes even if you don't plan on it!! Still thinking about it!! Should it go? Should it stay? 🌲

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 06/05/2026 20:35

I just can’t imagine buying a whole new theme every year! That’s madness to me!

My beloved collection has built up over around 40 years. It’s all very sentimental and every single item has a backstory. Every one! Honestly…my poor old angel 👼 tree topper is my oldest item…she was the first thing I bought on my first ever ‘Christmas In My Own Home’…she’s so damaged it’s ridiculous, but so loved.

OP…pick some beautiful pieces and start building your own precious collection. In 40 years time, when you lovingly place your battered old angel on top of the tree, you’ll thank me 💖

@CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich A lot of us don't buy a whole new theme every year. I can't speak for others, but we've accumulated a huge variety of decorations over the years; so many that we can have a different theme every year without buying a load of new stuff. Red & gold? Sorted. Likewise nature, birds, a ballet-themed one, 70's vintage tat, blue & silver etc. The only stuff I did get rid of were all the pink decorations that dd used to have in her bedroom as a kid. I'm currently (and slowly) accumulating a 'Faberge egg' type collection. That one is taking a while as you don't come across them often.

Well no, of course ‘we’ don’t…but the OP very specifically says that she does buy a whole new theme every year.

And does the OP very specifically say that she chucks the previous year's decorations in the bin?

Do you have enough rooms for two trees? Or one in the front room, and a small one in the kitchen? I understand about being sentimental about a tree, but on the other hand want a new/more practical one. I had a tree that held a lot of memories for me and it looked truely magical all dressed up but alas after over 10 years, it gave up the ghost and also I just didn't have the room for it anymore. The tree I have now isn't a patch on it but I like it in it's own way. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you do go for another tree, make sure it's one you really, really like because it has a lot of fun memories to contend with.

Fgs let's at least get to the end of summer first. Advent starts in December. I do not entertain anything about the C word until then! I've got far more important and pressing things to think about

Advent actually starts in November this year, as it does in over half of years. (It starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas)

I might go for the beginning of advent then this year

They will be donated, as long as they arent broken!

Hmm

I think 6 ft isnt big enough these days? How small are you thinking?

Maybe you could get a thinner tree thats taller? 👀👀

I say go for it, Christmas deserves to be truly enjoyed x
