We only buy one or two new baubles a year. We've got 25+ years of decorations, so we can usually make it vaguely themed, without buying much new.

Last year it was all ribbons and bows in shades of red, white and gold, a year before it was peacock colours, before that, we had a rainbow/jewel tone theme... but as I say, we buy very little, but have accumulated much over the years.

Edited

I love that and want to be able to do something similar

I think i will buy better quality decs this year and then keep them stored properly in the loft to come back to after a few years

What will you do this year? 👀

I do this, my son is 4 and like I bought a reindeer ornament last year as he was obsessed with reindeers and slept with his reindeer cuddly toy every night and made me read a reindeer book for months 😂.

My plan is to buy an ornament with him every year until he's to cool to bother 😂 i love making memories with him especially for christmas.

Thats so sweet 😍 - yeah i must steal this idea

I want to take dd to Paris at some point, as our holiday for the year - maybe we can choose a decoration from there 🤔🤔

No need to swear, I just read the post, not what board it was on. Christ, calm down

Is this the important and pressing stuff you've got to do? Try and police what other people talk about and how they say it in corners of the internet that don't interest you? Maybe if you'd calmed down enough to check where you were before spouting about how you're so much busier with so much more important stuff than the OP, you could have noted where you were first. It's like walking into a public toilet and telling people off for taking a shit.

After years of charity shop and boot fair merry mismatches, I forked out on some jewel tone glass baubles from John Lewis last year, and some hand crafted wooden mushrooms, plus an aged gold Habitat star and gold leds. That investment is locked in for a few seasons to come! I fully support OP in posting about it in late April - it's the Christmas forum folks!

Thank you! 😩 I think ive done well by not posting about this in jan/Feb 🤭🤭

Those sound lovely - I think its good to fork out and get ones that will last, will have to do that this year

Habitat had some gold led lights that I wanted last year so they will be bought if poss

It was sent as a link in a mail with simply the title. You have no idea of what my other stuff is, so quit your nastiness, and move on. There's no need for it

Our base colours are red and gold, the generic baubles and tinsel are in those colours. Then we have a whole load of random shit, stuff the kids have made, stuff from our families, and things we've chosen over the years. Every year we get a real tree and we let the kids pick a new christmas decoration or tree bauble at the same time as getting the tree. Plus stuff the kids made at nursery, school, gifts from their grandparents set. So our tree is not so much themed as biographical. I love it, pulling the boxes out and opening everything, putting stuff on the tree and remembering where they came from every year. Its a real treasure moment every year, and if its not insta worthy, then tbh its insta that's missing out, not me.

The stylish-ness of my tree has been decreasing yearly as DC get older and have more of an opinion. When we got the tree about 8 years ago, we went with red, green and gold. Our previous tree was a black tree with blue and silver decorations. Last year DD wanted some pink and purple decorations, plus DC got out all the other decorations, so we ended up with a rainbow, in a 'more is more' fashion. However we made a mistake with the lights and they annoyed me for weeks, but not quite enough to remove the 5000 baubles and swap the lights. I need to give away some of the decorations before this Christmas, so we can reign it in a bit!

We always have two trees, a nicely decorated one in our bay window and then a children’s tree in the kitchen.

Our nicely decorated one is red and white with eclectic baubles we collect. Our tradition is going to London every year to see the lights and get a new decoration or two from Liberty. We also added Mary Anning last year from the Natural History Museum!

The children’s tree is mostly felted animals wearing strange outfits with some Disney ones mixed in for good measure.

Ooo will take dd to liberty! We actually haven't been, despite being londoners

Ive got two trees, one pencil one for the hallway and one for the living room - love having your dc decorate the kitchen one 😄

Mine is never bothered but really want to get her into Christmas

It’s not very good for the planet to buy cheap new decs every year 😢

We’ll be using the same ones we use every year, including some that the DCs made as children (they’re young adults now), and some that my mum made (she died quite a long time ago). I think Christmas is more about traditions than aesthetics. Depends how much time you spend on Instagram though I guess.

We have a lovely time decorating it and I wouldn't change any of it apart from the clashing tinsel and the uneven clusters of baubles. And the too bright lights we put on last year as we fancied a change, but quickly regretted it!

Actually this thread is helpful. I have realised it is the tinsel that upsets me most, as it's a random assortment of different thicknesses, as well as different colours. I need to replace that for this year! Our corner shop still has tinsel for sale currently (not that I'll buy it there).

It isn't for another <<checks notes>> eight months.

I’m aiming to have a good sort through all the decorations in September as we’ve were given boxes full last year. Sell what I don’t want and buy a decent fake tree with the money. I’m planning on keeping two or three colour themes

@mumofoneAloneandwell i brought some hand made wooden Victorian style decorations....20 years ago!!! Now have two sons and we do a old style tree every year.

It's April, FFS.

I'm not buying the new aesthetic every year either - I think it's lovely to build traditions at Christmas, including decorations that mean something to you and come out each year.

I feel like buying neutral decs that mean a lot is good

I cant have same theme every year?! I'd get bored 😄😄

Veiled tree this year. Either that or all white. But I'm leaning towards veiled.
