Veiled tree?? 👀👀👀

Just wrap your tree up in a giant gauzy wedding veil. It was in some magazine i think and became a bit of a thing (although not much of one). Completely ridiculous IMO.

We have a mixture of different decorations that have been collected over the years mostly in white and silver but the odd one that is red or green. We don't have tinsel we have long strings of very tiny white beads that look a bit like snow. We often get a new decoration or two each year but I don't throw any of the old ones away. I definitely wouldn't want to have to think about a whole new theme every year. Get some really nice decs OP and you won't get bored of them, you'll look forward to getting them out each year.

I can picture it in a victorian flat (or house) with like twinkling golden lights

And then decorations around the rest of the room 👀👀👀

It will be the same as every year. 3am after Santa's workshop's christmas party. Elves have vomited glitter everywhere and rudolph curled out a sparkling turd in the corner.

Just the way I like it.

I am looking forward to getting my penicorn out.🦄

My neighbour had hers in her window, it looked very ethereal. Our houses are Victorian though, so it suited the general vibe.

I like idea of beads that look like snowdrops 😍

Yep I don't know how to block him out 😔. These pics are for the last 3 years

luckylavender · Yesterday 21:50

Far too early and if you must there’s a Christmas board. But changing decorations every year is so bad for the environment.

I love that and want to be able to do something similar

I think i will buy better quality decs this year and then keep them stored properly in the loft to come back to after a few years

What will you do this year? 👀

It takes a lot of storage! Its almost embarrassing, we have one huge hamper, plus two smaller hampers, plus a 1970s suitcase, and a mini 1970s suitcase, just full of christmas decorations. Oh and a washing basket of christmas books that DD is too old for, but I keep because they're nostalgic for me.

I dont know how we'll decorate this year, but I do know that we'll have Christmas Day just the three of us and do exactly what we like.

For years we've hosted Christmas for the family, so this year we'll do all the hosting in the run-up, and then on Christmas Day sit in our PJs, watch TV, and eat lobster macaroni cheese on the sofa.

That's the dream!

Whoops75 · Yesterday 21:59

No theme, just put up tree with bits we acquire, usually bring a decoration home from a market while on holidays.

Do vary the house decor, last year did mini baubles at different lengths on the windows and lights.

House looks more adult now but when the children were young in they had free rein. One year Bob the builder was our angel.

luckylavender · Yesterday 22:01

That will teach me to look carefully at the posts of the day Mumsnet throws up 🤣

KimMumsnet · Yesterday 22:04

@shellyleppard we've removed the photo which had the person in it for you as another Mumsnetter flagged it to us - hope that's useful.

<resists urge to say Merry Christmas 😆>

WellThatsAllRightThen · Yesterday 22:06

Family theme here. We have 3 children(now 8,6,3) and let them pick one new decoration each every year when we go to pick our tree from the farm. Last year it was an owl, a drill and a rubber duck! Other than that its stuff they've made at that time of year. We have hand prints, those scratchy black things, toilet roll angels, the works. Stuff me and dh bought pre children is at the back of the tree that can't be seen. Wouldn't have it any other way ❤️

EvangelinaMae · Yesterday 22:10

The same as every year. I don't buy new then discard every year. Is that actually what you mean op? Disgusting overconsumption?
