Small Business Supporters- Christmas

Thesmallbusinesssupporter · 13/09/2025 13:24

I know there’s a long standing Christmas bargains thread, but I thought it might be worth starting a thread for people who want to support small businesses this Christmas?

Not only are they a bit cheaper in many areas but our support probably means far more to them than it does to Amazon etc. So, this is a thread for those of us who want to help small businesses grow and, perhaps, pick up a bargain along the way!

So, as someone who will only be buying from Small Businesses this Christmas - hit me with your best buys. And, tell the rest of us what you really want (perfumes, candles, paintings, slippers etc) and let’s see who we can support this Christmas 🌟

ooh nice to be able to contribute this time

Bubble and bathe - great products and service https://bubbleandbathe.co.uk/

Balsamics that are delicious https://bubbleandbathe.co.uk/

Old fashioned cordials https://bubbleandbathe.co.uk/

Ooh, what a lovely range. I've been searching for nice shower steamers since I sadly don't have a bath anymore. This is what happens when I look for presents, I just see loads of things I want!

Great idea for a thread btw OP. Gonna end up costing me though I think 😂

For crochet cuddlies my recommendation is Squiggle and bean. I've had lots from her including a few custom requests. (Favourite being a pair of magpies and a woodlouse!)

also Tazzies bits and beads on facebook how the cashmere turtle doves gloves used to be.

Gosh yes. Tazzies. I've bought about 25 pairs of gloves from her in the past couple of years (I have a serious addiction and like them in every shade to go with every outfit in Autumn and Winter) My DD and Mum also wears them.

Here's her Facebook page:

Two recommendations off the top of my head:

The Cheese Society is a cheesemongers based in Lincoln but they deliver nationwide. I live nowhere near them but always place an order for Christmas and they have always been fantastic. https://www.thecheesesociety.co.uk/

Freckleface do beautiful wax melts, candles and all things scented. They use local suppliers where they can for dried flowers etc. I am signed up to their monthly wax melt club and always love the scents, they don't smell artificial at all and come packaged in cardboard so no plastic. https://www.frecklefacehomefragrance.com/our-freckleface-story

buy cheese online

I found a lovely one last year; we got one of the memorial gifts for my mother after dad passed away. It's really sweet and their customer service is really personal.

This is a really good idea. DD got a tea towel made for my Mum. She used writing from my Gran (Mum's Mum) from a cook book. I've never seen my Mum so thrilled with a present before. And it wasnt that expensive.

Lovely thread!

The first one that pops to mind for me is Can to Candle https://cantocandle.com/product-category/christmas-shop/

if you sign up you get 10% (I think) off all year round. I used to buy white company ones but am totally converted.

I second books for bugs- brilliant cheap new kids books. Very quick shipping.
However currently having website issues so may have to wait a week or 2 and look again

Books for bugs website up and running again.
https://booksforbugs.co.uk/product-category/grotto-books-for-eyfs-under-5s/
grotto range includes books for as little as £1, I have linked the under 5’s but there are sections for up to 11 year olds.

If you like things that are a little bit odd and amusing, you can't go wrong with these two:

Poetry Pharmacy

Edited

Thank you so much for this- I was drawing a complete blank for my Mum's birthday and the Poetry Pharmacy gift box has provides just the right amount of literary whimsy!

Thanks for this thread, some great ideas for Christmas gifts (and some things I'm eyeing up for myself!).

Here's my contribution: Laser Craft Handmade

I met the owners at a craft fair and they are lovely. Some lovely, quirky bits and at good prices too. I got a couple of their autumn bits and they are great quality.

GingerbreadGirls · 21/09/2025 11:50

I love Gingerbread Decirations, no surprise with my username 😂
Manorcreations on Etsy is one of my favourite small businesses

I can recommend this Northamptonshire lady and her paper craft items

ButterPiesAreGreat · 21/09/2025 14:33

I don’t know if it still counts as a small business but I’ve bought MiaTui bags for over 12 years almost since Charlotte started the business and it’s still run by her today. I have bags, purses, packing cubes, the lot. Their customer service is also amazing.

Clubhouse Roastery sells some great coffee with quirky sporting names. Bought some for presents last year.

Second the Mia tui bags! I have a rucksack and a fold out vanity bag, which was from a seconds sale cos it doesn't quite sit flat when opened. The fact this vanity bag which has barely anything wrong with it was so cheap and in a seconds sale is testament to their high quality.

I've just bought my mum a bag for her birthday too. She keeps complaining of losing things in her handbag and I think the bright lining and pockets will help!

stayathomer · 21/09/2025 16:14

Can I just nudge in and say a lot of us self published authors are served predominantly by Amazon as a lot of bookshops can’t stock us and the ones who can obviously and rightly have to bow to the giant publishers so we don’t get much prominence. Plus we make money off Amazon and they’re not a bad crowd to work with! Obviously this thread is amazing and I buy local etc but just to let ye know

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 21/09/2025 21:32

The paper garlands from East End Press are lovely. Flowers, vegetables, insects, love hearts, pumpkins, Christmassy etc etc. they’re 3 for 2, with 20% off first orders.
