It's one of my faves every year

Well this is my first year on mumsnet and as such I didn't know such a thread existed! Now I know that it does I can't bloody wait!! 😃🎄

not to be too serious, but I really think the people who virtue signal on the fridge thread are often people who are not and have been no where near real poverty.
I grew up in generational poverty- all family on benefits- what would now be seen as an underclass not even working class. My mum was incredibly house proud and very very good at budgeting. She started saving for the next Christmas on 27th Dec! She stocked up on very cheap reduced stuff like wrapping and tags, and saved the co op stamps. She also bought the same things every month whether we needed them or not (like washing up liquid) so she always had a little stock cupboard, and therefore, in December, she wouldn't need to buy that item and could get mince pies or something festive instead.
Stocking up the Christmas fridge on 23rd Dec made her fell proud and capable- instead of the drain on society she was made to feel.

Oh I love this story and good on her for being so savvy and organised! I could definitely take a leaf out of her book, I actually might steal the idea about buying all the little bits each month to build up a stock cupboard!

@MaltipooMama I try to do that, too. I have just done my weekly shopping list for tomorrow and it’s mostly fresh stuff. The rest I have ready for me to shop from the cupboard. It can free up more than $100.

Well at the moment my fridge has about 9 cartons of Alpro for DD and me and a good few cartons of orange juice plus my clementine juice that no one else likes .
So not really Christmas but give it time 😉

I'm a pineapple juice person so I'm sure I'd get some comments on that. The diced ham containers, the prepped salad veggies, my favorite muffins and sandwich sliced cheeses would get comments.

I’m getting my 2 new fridge’s delivered tomorrow and I’m so excited. We have a big chest freezer in the garage and an under counter fridge and under counter freezer in the kitchen.
The fridge door seal finally gave up so I’m replacing the separate under counter fridge and freezer with 2 fridges (one with an ice box). I will actually have room for fridge bits this year!! The rest of the year I’m hoping to use the one with the ice box as the kids snacks, fruit and DH's beer fridge.
This seemed like the best place to share my fridge related excitement 😂

I’m intrigued!, my fridge is sooo full Christmas it will give people diabetes 😂.

if it’s what I think it is, pictures of stuffed fridges, their will be so many comments off waste and over buyer. What they will say when I confess to having 2 fridges in the kitchen and a drinks fridge in the garage!

You must be an American at heart with the two fridge kitchen and a drinks fridge in the garage.

Most American college students now have a fridge in their dorm rooms.

It had honestly just never occurred to me to do that! Looking forward to trying to implement this in 2025!

2 new fridges? Omg read the room, some people don’t even have one fridge and have to leave their milk outside in the snow. In fact they can’t even afford milk and have to have water with their cereal, if they’re even lucky enough to have cereal. Bragging about 2 new fridges is not a good look…

…Ha ha this ^ is literally how the Christmas fridge thread goes. Every year 🤣
And I can’t wait 😜

Enjoy your lovely new fridges

Which one, we have 3! One containing meats and cheese. DH insists we have certain cheeses, and although there's only 3 of us, has bought enough for the entire street. Ditto meat, and I mean things like salami slices and sausage , posh ham, Polish sausage from the east European shop.
One will have drinks in it and the other our normal day to day stuff and Christmas eve/day ingredients in it.

I never add photos of ours as they have things wedged in it at all angles

😂 yep, wouldn’t be Christmas without a few vipers! Thanks

Helixpoint · 18/12/2024 09:42

We should play viper bingo when the thread starts, winner gets a new mini fridge

Probably needs to be a designated drinks fridge ?

Mumdiva99 · 19/12/2024 06:54

So will someone please link here to the new Xmas fridge thread so I don't miss the excitement.

(Is it vipery to say - I replaced the seal on my freezer last month when it went....no need to buy 2 new fridges for 1 door seal!! Lol.)

Sgtmajormummy · 19/12/2024 14:33

I’ve refused to do Christmas this year as I expected DC1 to have to work and DC2 to be out with friends most of the time.

So DH went out and bought ALL the non-perishable snacks. The running total is over €100 on prunes, dates, figs, nuts, pretzels, pickles and mostarda, Panforte, Panettone, Cantuccini and Vin Santo. Not forgetting the obligatory Ferrero Rocher and Mon Cheri.
He comes home with something different every day (“Oh, it was only €17 this time!”)

Turns out DC1 will be here but I’ll just do a Sunday roast or maybe Jamie Oliver’s turkey breast Wellington. All ingredients freely available.

So I’ll be posting the Shelf of Shame.

RoseDog · 19/12/2024 15:26

I have just cleared out and cleaned out my fridge ready for the big shop, I kinda don't want to fill it though cos it's sparkly and organised!

LadyoftheCheeses · 19/12/2024 18:23

My shop is done! We aren't doing Xmas dinner so no immediate perishables - I'M READY FOR THE THREAD

You'd better get it started then! Xmas Grin

LadyoftheCheeses · 19/12/2024 18:25

I'm too scared - the 'it's too early!' 'distasteful given COL!' posters will be out in form!

NoWordForFluffy · 19/12/2024 18:26

Maybe @Soniastrumpet1984will start it for you?

LadyoftheCheeses · 19/12/2024 18:33

@NoWordForFluffy that would be lovely - also worried mine won't be fancy enough for MN. Oh the problems we face!

NoWordForFluffy · 19/12/2024 18:34

It doesn't need to be fancy, just full and defying physics for the amount you've got in there! 🤣🤣

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 19/12/2024 18:35

I'm also semi-ready as I've been to M&S plus Sainsbury's today.
Still to get is an avocado, a pear cake & some specifically from Waitroise and a block of cheese.
I've scaled back so it's not looking as impressive as previous posts.

MerryChristmasYaFilthyBrusselSprout · 19/12/2024 19:21

Well one of you start it for goodness sake, I’m ready with my bingo card 😆

Loub1987 · 19/12/2024 19:36

Yes! I love the Christmas fridge thread. I am not very flush this year but have ordered some nice stuff. I love seeing the wine fridges and trying to figure out what others are going to eat on the day!

I will await someone else to start it though, not that brave!

DreamSpaceships · 19/12/2024 19:53

I love the Christmas fridge thread but am now feeling sad that we’re not hosting and don’t have any Christmassy food. Normally I’d have still bought some fancy cheese and puddings for the surrounding days but I haven’t even done that! Can I fit in a trip to the supermarket tomorrow I wonder?
