It's one of my faves every year

I'm glad you asked I was too scared to because I know @AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras has a big stick 🤣 I love all things Christmas-related so please do tell us more!

Heh sorry! The Big Stick is not for curious people, just for miserable people looking to drag everyone down! 🙂

AdoraBell · 15/12/2024 19:12

Oh yes. My fridge needs sorting as does the freezer.

SquirrelSoShiny · 15/12/2024 19:12

I hear you @AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras there is such joylessness on some threads now. Life is really bloody short. The older I get the more I celebrate every good day/ week / month / year because we have no idea what is round the corner. So I will look forward to seeing bursting fridges and will be inspired and reminded to put some extra items in the food bank.

AdoraBell · 15/12/2024 19:18

My DD sent me a picture of her newly filled fridge and freezer when she moved. Nothing to do with Christmas but it looked fabulous 😀

Taytocrisps · 15/12/2024 19:20

Yes, I love it.

The threads used to be so lovely, so festive with lots of good cheer and anticipation of the big day. Lots and lots of cosy, happy posts - big fridges, little ones and everything in between, and such a fun peek into how different households celebrate. I must say, I love nothing more than a perfectly stacked fridge worthy of a Tetris champion.

Then lockdown happened...and the virtue signallers/hard of thinking went into overdrive with trying to police whether or not people were allowed to find simple joys in life and, god forbid, write a post about it!

Utterly, utterly stupid and tedious.

There should be a disclaimer in the thread title, tbh - if you don't like it you don't need to look, do you? So DFOD and don't let the (fridge) door hit your self-righteous bum on the way out!!

Ahem. Peace and love, good will toward men and all that. 🎄🎄🎄

The older threads are absolutely fantastic but it's not felt quite the same the past few years.

Maybe 2024 is the year where we'll capture the old magic again! ✨✨✨✨✨✨

Gosh, what could the effect of lockdown have been? People losing their livelihoods? I don’t begrudge other people’s good fortune, and it is fun to compare fridges, but perhaps context does sometimes matter? To call people ‘hard of thinking’ is a bit much, and sort of ironic.

cheeseybeans19 · 15/12/2024 19:22

Me! The question is who is brave enough to start it! 😆

Sheesh. A lot of po-faced puritans on that thread.

Isn’t it a bit early for fridges to be bulging with festive food.

Yes thats why we are saying we are looking forward to it..I love looking in people's fridges and kitchen cupboards and so do all my friends. We love getting the milk to make a cuppa so we can have a nose.
I hate the way people on here are really into telling people off these days. Some things are just fun. It's not showing off to have a full fridge and it doesn't mean you're rich either. My mum used to save stamps at co op all year to do the big shop

I love the CF thread. Even those who get all frothy at the mouth make me laugh!

People losing their livelihoods, people losing people they loved, people with cancer (and a multitude of other conditions) not being able to have treatment, people being unable to see loved ones, people being isolated and lonely and in need of companionship, people finding life more difficult because they weren't able to do the things they normally could to keep well physically and psychologically.

Etc etc etc.

And guess what, those people were on the fridge threads too, finding what joy they could in the circumstances.

It's extremely hard of thinking to operate under the misapprehension that being a twat on a thread on MN helps the poor and needy or makes any jot of difference to the lives of people who have less or are in difficulty.

It's extremely hard of thinking to not understand that many people with plenty give loads to charity and food banks and local initiatives that need it.

It's extremely hard of thinking to believe that policing joy on a thread does anything at all of value for anyone in the entire world. It's a pointless, meaningless, miserable thing to do, and entirely vacuous.

People like that ought to get off MN and go be the change.

Glitterybee · 15/12/2024 19:35

Yessss bring it on!!!!! Best thread of the year 🎄🎄🤶🤶

lightand · 15/12/2024 19:36

Yes please.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 15/12/2024 19:42

(Please excuse the combative tone! It's not directed at you or what you said, but I have found that if one comes down hard on the virtue signalling misery guts right from the beginning it can help the thread to stay nicely on track and full of good cheer)

accidentalteacher · 15/12/2024 19:45

Ah; the Christmas fridge pictures! The first few questions in our class Christmas Quiz are pictures from the teachers' homes 'whose fridge/bookcase/baby picture/ornament is this?' The fridge picture is always a huge source of conversation, usually along the lines of 'I think Miss X probably drinks Prosecco" etc. Ho ho ho!!

IamChipmunk · 15/12/2024 19:45

I've just been on last year's thread to find my post As I had convinced myself I did my big shop on the 21st. I did not! It was the 23rd!
We are hosting this year so the fridge will struggle!!

NoWordForFluffy · 15/12/2024 19:53

We had just moved house last year and had the built in FF as well as the FF from the old house. This year we've got rid of the crap FF which was here, and only have our usual one. So the other week I bought an under-counter fridge (no freezer box) to go into the garage. I imagine both will be rather full come the evening of 23/12!

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 15/12/2024 21:02

What’s the official start date? At what point does a ‘big shop’ become a ‘Christmas big shop’?

When it's your pre-Christmas big shop, not just a big shop. So you're fully-stocked for Christmas.

Nigellasrockyroad · 15/12/2024 21:15

Looking forward to posting ( yet another) pic of my fridge, but I need to clean it out first. DH found a Lidl, Spanish, deli board on the top shelf last weekend. Best before Aug 2024. I’m pretty sure our whole grain mustard has been there for at least 5 years.

Gardendiary · 15/12/2024 21:20

KingOompaLoompa · 15/12/2024 18:19

I am!

What I’m not looking forward to are all the judgy ‘you’re tone deaf, tacky, you’re bragging, how disgraceful, COL you know’ comments

I really enjoy it - even last year when dh was unemployed and we were some of the people for whom the room needed to be read, I liked living vicariously! 😁

MayorOfHuyton · 15/12/2024 21:54

I love the festive fridge thread, can't wait!
(Just please put raw meats on the bottom shelf thank you)

Isabelle70 · 15/12/2024 22:03

I already have a joint of gammon for the Christmas fridge thread, currently squirrelled away on the bottom shelf.

MerryChristmasYaFilthyBrusselSprout · 15/12/2024 22:05

Christmas and food - two of my favourite things. It’s definitely the best thread of the year. I like taking my time on each pic and zoom in if I have to 🤣😆😂
