One more sleep until December!! Get your Christmas duvets, stollen and mulled wine and the ready as the festive season is well and truly here!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Camelcamelcamel is a great amazon price tracking tool http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com

The following links compare price products including postage
www.find-book.co.uk
www.find-cd.co.uk
www.find-dvd.co.uk
www.find-game.co.uk (as in PS4/xbox etc)

@SweetPeaPods I bought my sister and her husband a teddy-fur bedding set from
Dunelm as a joint present this year - that wouldn’t take up your whole budget though. Another year I have bought plants for a couple I know. Games eg the Genius Square. It depends on their interests.

I had a look through my present stash today. Unfortunately most of what I have bought seems to have been for me🙈

DH is sorted - new phone and accessories and underwear. Plus - the piece de resistance - a new umbrella. (He is both obsessed with umbrellas and unable to keep hold of one for more than a few weeks at a time.)

Adult DS x2 are proving more difficult - younger one just ‘wants money’ - I fear he will be disappointed at any actual physical amount 😹, as I am much better at bargain hunting for actual presents. Meanwhile older DS is ‘still thinking about it’ without any real sense of urgency.

I have already got them underwear and deodorant, (and electric toothbrushes due to a good bargain on Oral B from Boots). However, I want to get a couple of cheapish fun gifts as what I have so far are practical things that they ‘need’, rather than ‘want’

Any suggestions for reasonably priced adult presents for those who are very much still into gadgets, gaming, anime? It needs to be small things due to lack of space. They have zero interest in sport, aftershave, tools, etc. if that helps narrow it down. Food is out too, due to allergies😿 We did Oodies last year.

Thanks

How about a phone charging case?

For any one who bought Outsmarted - there are loads of extra categories in the Black Friday sale for 99p
i bought the whole mega bundle as the original purchase but there are some still good extra ones - I got the Christmas one and the logo one

Can anyone recommend any American candy stores online? All the ones I’ve found have terrible trust pilot reviews.

hby9628 · 30/11/2024 15:33

In person shopping today & id recommend the works & home bargains for stocking fillers. I had my 10yo with me so I need to go back without her but they had small non branded Lego sets for £1 they are just individual animals but they are so cute. She got the penguin, lots of fidgets, home bargains had rubix cube sets for £4.99, magic snake was about £2, some really nice teen cosmetic stuff, I got a face mask with headband set for £3 for my eldest.

It's for this reason that I've always bought American candy from Sainsbury's (find it in the world food aisles or order online as I do) or also, corner shops often stock lots of it. Our Premier corner shop does loads. I was able to buy enough over the space of a couple of weeks last year to make a decent looking hamper for DD.

Vimaybe · 30/11/2024 15:52

Does anyone know where you can get cheap miniatures? I'm wanting to pop them in Christmas crackers. I've looked in supermarkets but the gift sets are all mixed bottles and me and DH will end up wanting the same [then bickering like children].

Piglets Pantry has a good deal on Afternoon Tea (delivered to your door) I have used the company multiply times, and highly recommend.
Afternoon tea for two should be £32.50, you can get it for £29.90 delivered.
Use the code 'Wellington' to take £2.60 off.

Can book in advance. I've just purchased one for middle of January.

I'd bookmarked this site (following recommendations on earlier threads) and have just ordered an afternoon tea for one for £24.78 delivered. Looks like a lot of food!
Not such a good deal as the tea for two but there was 15% off with a code that autofilled (CC3 I think). Delivery was £6.50.
Thought it would make a nice birthday gift for an older relative.

I posted this on the wrong thread, about the hogwarts legacy download. Can anyone help me understand?!
Is there a way to buy this as a gift for a family member?! He has a switch. On. Nintendo store its asking for a Nintendo account but not sure if I need to sign up to one or if I need his account details?!
Also will it come ad a download card or something. It won't go straight onto his switch will it? I don't want him to have it til Christmas.

IlovePond · 30/11/2024 16:30

I found this article in case anyone’s interested:

Sorry I am probably missing the point re the download as it was probably some super bargain or something but would it be better buying the actual game that slots into the switch so you have the physical present?

Cute little wooden puzzles here that I'm contemplating putting in our reusable crackers.

Tiggerspal · 30/11/2024 16:49

Thank you to pp who posted details of The National Gallery book, that's usually impossible to buy for Dad nearly sorted!

Sadly not as extensive as previous years but Museum Selection has up to 55% off select items, including some christmas cards.

Crocs are also up to 60% off select items.

Thanks for reminding me I needed Crocs for DS. Blue light discount also knocks another 10% off so I got some Baya for £20.25

I bought a few on Discount Dragon recently - there were a few options including gin and Campari.

I got my older teenagers some earbud cleaning kit for about £3 from Amazon. They had good reviews and when I mentioned them on here as a suggestion to someone else some else posted to say they’d had them last year and were a hit. It looks small like a pen / screwdriver size I think.

Not sure how but I quoted the wrong post - sorry - meant for @IlovePond

I got these last year after they were mentioned on here and they were a big success with DCs aged 17 and 21

I bought this direct from Amazon on Friday as they did the same offer, £15. After buying you are emailed a download code. Then when you’re ready to give the present, the recipient uses that code.

I should say, on buying on Amazon I didn’t have to give any Nintendo details etc.
