Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I remember in previous years there were discussions about companies that shipped abroad for no extra charge. I need to send presents for 3 children in Canada and the cost of postage is insane so looking for the best way to do it

I just sent my dd a mini Xmas tree and advent calendar via Amazon.au (for example)
she’s so far away 😢

i had to pay Aus $7.99 postage but was the within Australia postage

Bippityboppitybooo · 26/11/2024 22:32

Are there any monster (zombie, vampire, witch) doll deals on that anyone has spotted? Dd is 3 and a halloween fiend - is monster high OK do you think, or too old? She already has costumes and facepaint.

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 26/11/2024 22:33

Anyone else think it was @hugsandpugs ' "birthday" rather than her actual birthday? 😂

Florence19791 · 26/11/2024 22:46

Looking for suggestions for my 2 nieces aged 8 and 5. Uncle has suggested anything craft related but I suspect they have all the usual beads etc.

Looking for something maybe slightly different that they will enjoy? Budget around £20 - £25 esch

Thanks!

@hugsandpugs Happy Birthday 💐
(I can’t believe so many people asked for your codes but didn’t take the time to wish you a HB)

Thanks so much 😊 just on my way home from a gig and catching up on the thread to have a nose for any bargains I’ve missed 😂

https://buildyourownkits.com/ our 8 year old likes these kits, but possibly too fiddly for a 5 year old. Free delivery and some kits are 50% off at the moment.

Some large dock and bay kids towels have a 50% off voucher on amazon making them £10.50

Dock and bay

Thank you! We love Dock and Bay towels. Some designs are even cheaper. I just ordered 3 and totalled £27.32 🙂

Bit worried that my soccer04 order seems to have just disappeared? Do they send out a dispatch notice or roughly what time do they arrive? Ordered about 10 days ago but would have thought they’d send a ‘on its way’ type message?

I’ve not ordered from this particular company before, but I have from similar - the orders take weeks to arrive. I wouldn’t worry too much yet. Communication can be a little lax too!

Someone was asking about hotel chocolat. Looks like there's some offers over the weekend. No idea what!

edit : more of the page loaded slowly. 2 for £50 on sleeksters abd 2 for £35 on h boxes plus the 15 % from the look of it

https://www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/blog/christmas/snap-up-our-irresistible-black-friday-chocolate-deals.html?srsltid=AfmBOooZedaq93PWyz12Z61q5E-seX2QO6iEwYi6EIqIHtoKPEysu2T5

Edited

Thanks for this. I’m needing the patisserie box so would be as well going ahead with the 15% then.

Does anyone know what River Island might offer for Black Friday? I have no experience of buying for teenage girls and now find myself on the receiving end of a very long wish list. The teen is delightful and will be grateful for whatever I treat her to, but I can't resist trying to get the best deal. I'm wondering whether to stick with the 4.25% cash back that TCB may give me, or hold out for the chance of a larger store wide discount later this week. Any advice from the Christmas experts? TIA x

They definitely have a blue light card discount if you have one?

XmasShoppingsister · 27/11/2024 02:51

@MeanMrMustardSeed I'm so impressed with the gaming monitor we just got for my son.
Lenovo Gaming Monitor
The pictures don't do it justice, the stand is so sturdy. It's 240hz but can be over clocked to 280hzs and has a 0.5ms response rate. Apparently these are important factors. But definitely check if your son would prefer a bigger or smaller screen and curved or flat.

Edited to add, it also has built in speakers which we found lots of gaming monitors don't have, so you have to use headphones.

DH potentially has a new job (finds out today). If he does, I'm thinking of getting him something to help with his new job such as electric razor, travel mug, new tie or backpack. Anyone know of any offers around these things?

Also what aftershave is in fashion with teen boys nowadays?

I have 3 teen boys, all aftershave obsessed and the most popular by far is Creed Aventus, but it's so expensive! Their more reasonable requests are Sauvage by Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Elixir (in a gold tin) and Versace Eros.

My DD11 will be walking to school by herself next year. Is there such thing as a watch that will fit her wrist whereby I can track her movements but doesn't need her phone?

Airtag

Wellwhoknewthat · 27/11/2024 06:09

Amazon have a BF deal on bayliss & harding advent calendar at £19.44 supposedly Bayliss & harding reduced from £45.
Look like 30ml bottles but might be good to split between stockings/nursery staff.

I've bought Poscas for a friend of DD for her birthday but will need to supplement with something else - ideally to do with the poscas. Any ideas? DD keeps suggesting rocks. Confused
