Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I've bought Poscas for a friend of DD for her birthday but will need to supplement with something else - ideally to do with the poscas. Any ideas? DD keeps suggesting rocks. Confused

DD is obsessed with her Posca pens and wr often get blank wooden or mache things from Hobbycraft for her to decorate. Things like the heart box, pencil pot and little houses have all gone down well, as did a wooden mushroom. She also loves to buy masks from there that she creates different designs on. They are only a couple of pounds each

Looking for suggestions for my 2 nieces aged 8 and 5. Uncle has suggested anything craft related but I suspect they have all the usual beads etc.

Looking for something maybe slightly different that they will enjoy? Budget around £20 - £25 esch

Thanks!

DD is 8, she's loved magic clay for the last few years, loads of sets on Amazon they're all pretty much the same.
This has also been a big hit

Are there any monster (zombie, vampire, witch) doll deals on that anyone has spotted? Dd is 3 and a halloween fiend - is monster high OK do you think, or too old? She already has costumes and facepaint.

My dd2 played with monster high dolls from that age as her older sister had them! Also had a bratz doll dressed as a witch.

There's also a few Halloween themed LOL dolls, you might struggle to find new but might find them second hand!

There's also little blind box dolls called zombaes and if you can find it in stock Argos have the playset reduced from £24 to £5!

I've also done similar as RainboxZebraWarrior with the posca pens and wooden boxes and she's absolutely loved it

FreshLaundry · 27/11/2024 07:42

Would love any deals on paint pens like Posca.

@Bippityboppitybooo This drawing set was the biggest hit for my daughter's 5th birthday earlier this year and all her friends gravitate towards it too on playdates.

Hello, does anyone know the cheapest place to buy Chanel Bleu aftershave please?

NewLamp · 27/11/2024 07:57

The Works is good for posca blanks.

UntamedShrew · 27/11/2024 08:01

Home Bargains had some posca-like pens last time I was in and they are pretty good

workworkwork123 · 27/11/2024 08:22

Does anyone know of any discount codes for the brand revolution (make up skin care) there's a good sale on but if I can a bet extra then bonus

bumblebeedee · 27/11/2024 08:40

Hi, does anyone know of a John Lewis code/discount please? My rewards on the app are never useful for things I want to buy 😐

Those heat shrink sheets look great, thanks for the idea!

Does anyone know where they might be available on the high street or online from somewhere that isn't Amazon? They would be a great present that my DB could get for my kids, but he doesn't shop at Amazon because he has Principles.

My DD11 will be walking to school by herself next year. Is there such thing as a watch that will fit her wrist whereby I can track her movements but doesn't need her phone?

The Explora Go watch has a SIM of it's own and is basically a very restricted smart watch. The SIM includes data, but it's restricted to tracking location: no apps or internet. And it's set up so that they can make calls only to contacts you've previously set up, eg parents and grandparents etc.

https://amzn.eu/d/gfXmher
(black Friday deal on just now)

We had one for DD when she was younger. But at 11 you might be better with a normal smartphone, but lock it down. Put on parental restrictions so that they can't install apps and consider using a Parent Shield sim so that you can monitor what they're doing (and do monitor it!). Be aware that Parentshield won't see WhatsApp messages since they're encrypted, so you might keep them off WhatsApp (as well as other social media).

You could get DD to hand pick some nice rocks from a beach or something to paint, makes it more personal.

nothingtoseehereatall · 27/11/2024 09:47

@weareallqueens Poscas work really well on glass - obviously a bit age-dependent as you probably don't want little kids near glass but I've decorated bits from Ikea or similar before. Or Hobbycraft sometimes sell little plain glass hanging decorations - suncatchers - which you can use Poscas on.

Amazon has some good Hotel Chocolat deals for anyone looking.

Pukka Herbs tea advent calendar is also £9.95 on Amazon. Nice early gift idea. Going to get one for DM.

Off topic, but if anyone has a Meercat code they're not using, please could you pm me with it? Hoping to go this afternoon. Thank you.

The chat doesn't bother me, but people thanking Reastie for the new thread does. Shows who doesn't read her opening post.

And people sharing their referral codes for the same reason.

<grumpy>

I can sympathise on this though as I always automatically check the 'im on' threads but not really the watching ones. Can't shake the habit. So if I don't post something then I lose the thread. Do appreciate and feel bad that it's against the OP though 😔

Also one who enjoys the chat 🥰

Can any recommend a nice child's bottle, preferably with a straw mechanism, which doesn't leek?
We have been through soooo many which are rubbish, I'm hoping that with BF deals I can get a decent one for a good price!
Thank you

We bought DD an ion8 bottle and really like it, you can get metal or plastic ones and the straw is optional. They’re dishwasher safe too.

Would love any deals on paint pens like Posca.

Costco had a good set for £14.99. I can’t remember how many pens but it seemed much better value than the ones I’d bought in hobby craft
