Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

If you have a Homebase near you, head there! Mine has all the christmas trees 50% off (at least) because they're in administration.

I was about to suggest the same but be aware that it’s no refunds/exchanges. The Vermont pre-lit looked very bushy so might fit the bill.

I remember in previous years there were discussions about companies that shipped abroad for no extra charge. I need to send presents for 3 children in Canada and the cost of postage is insane so looking for the best way to do it

I now have an Amazon Australia account for this purpose. The only issue with Australian Amazon is that the shipping times seem to be longer. Probably not the case with Canadian cities but maybe an issue for the remote areas. But after spending £70 on postage one year this definitely works better. Depending what you are buying you could also look at local Canadian shops or Department Stores - The Bay was my favourite when I briefly lived there.

Typo has some good deals on its Black Friday Offers. There are lots of "Grinch" themed items at 50% off & this bargain bottle opener set which may go nicely with all the Laithwaites wine purchases :) https://cottonon.com/UK/bottled-up-gift-pack/134533-01.html?dwvar_134533-01_color=134533-01&cgid=typo&originalPid=134533-01#q=wine&start=4&sz=60
Also for the luxury lovers Notino has the Gucci Flora Gift Set on offer at £54.90 with the code "perfume". It's the cheapest I've seen this and is currently £90 on Boots even with 15% off: https://www.notino.co.uk/gucci/flora-glamorous-magnolia-gift-set-for-women/
Happy Christmas Shopping!

Thanks, that’s my next go to but I think the thing over there seems to be to have English things so if I can I’m trying to do that if I can (but not if it means selling a kidney)

Yes, there are some very expensive "English" shops. I remember spending an eye-watering £10 on a jar of Marmite back in the late 90s. I was glad it lasts a long time. If selected light luxury items - Twinings teabags etc the postage might not be too bad.

I came across these really lovely children's books by a local author at a local book fair. Amazon link. The stories are really sweet and heartwarming, and the pictures are absolutely gorgeous. My daughter has two of these books (The Christmas Hedgehog and The Halloween Hedgehog) and she loves them.

The author is currently offering 25% off individual books, or 33% off a full set, by emailing him directly at [email protected], thought I'd share on here in case anyone is interested! (He did say it's ok to do so!)

Tales from the Bluebell Woods

Visit Amazon's Tales from the Bluebell Woods page and shop for all Tales from the Bluebell Woods books. Check out pictures, author information and reviews of Tales from the Bluebell Woods

TCB stands for Top Cash Back. It isn't a code @marshmallowmix

Is anyone else experiencing a delay with a parcel from Beauty Outlet?

IlovePond · 26/11/2024 19:16

@Webbb - we got a nice and quite bargainous tree from Dobbies - might be worth having a look there if there’s a branch near you.

Member212711 · 26/11/2024 19:16

@hugsandpugs most of my family (and me) only drink non alcoholic wine or beer - and have so far completely failed to find a decent red wine one. There are a couple of white wines, and some rose and some sparkly ones that are OK. Non alcoholic wines are often far too sweet and v chemical-ly. Beers/lagers are so much better!

Vimaybe · 26/11/2024 19:16

@sidecg depends on the age of your child but I got my then 2 year old the Nuby Super Quench bottles. They're dishwasher proof and don't leak.

AndSoFinally · 26/11/2024 19:20

Christmas trees 🎄! Really in need of a new one this year after 12 years .. has anyone bought anything in the last couple of years they’d recommend? Ideally 7 ft, bushy and green (no snow covered due to cats!) Happy to buy online but a bit nervous to without seething the trees first

I bought from Christmas Tree World last Black Friday and was very pleased with the tree! At the time new customers could also get 10% off with WELCOME10

AndSoFinally · 26/11/2024 19:26

@pasinphoebe WeRChristmas do lovely trees. Would definitely recommend a pre-lit one. I got the Craford Pine a few years ago and it's great

They are doing Black Friday deals too

Take20 for 20% off on very. I was sent this a few weeks ago but it said it expired on the 3rd of Nov
I tried it today and it's worked so still active.

nicky2512 · 26/11/2024 19:32

Hi I’m wondering if Hotel Chocolat will do anything different on Friday? I need some hot chocolate sachets and a box of the patisserie chocolates and not sure whether I should just go ahead with the current 15%

Can anyone remember from last year?

Thelifeofawife · 26/11/2024 19:46

@hugsandpugs Happy Birthday 💐
(I can’t believe so many people asked for your codes but didn’t take the time to wish you a HB)

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/11/2024 19:59

Tu 25% off clothing is in until Friday apparently. The Argos code on BLC is down though until the 30th 🤔

NWnature · 26/11/2024 20:09

@pasinphoebe my White Company tree is incredible- so realistic and so practical (toddler & cat) I was so wedded to real for many, many years but I love this one and wouldn’t look back.

I also have a Basalm Hill for another room but it isn’t as good as the White Co one by any stretch.

@Fueledwithfairydustandgin I'm pretty sure M&S do free international delivery? I've just had a Quick Look for you and they have a Canadian site.
