Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I would really appreciate a recommendation for a 'pod' coffee maker.
One that would make coffee, hot Chocolat etc.
Is there one that would use different brands of pods?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I can't remember who was after the blue Mixie genie lamp but I've got one I bought as a 'just incase' present. I find out next week if my family member is visiting us over Christmas but if not, I don't mind posting it over, if you don't get one before then ☺️

It was meeeeee!! Thank you!

Bit worried that my soccer04 order seems to have just disappeared? Do they send out a dispatch notice or roughly what time do they arrive? Ordered about 10 days ago but would have thought they’d send a ‘on its way’ type message?

It took at least 4 weeks until I received my order, I got a notification after about two weeks and then nothing until it arrived one day.

I need to buy gifts for 50 women in poverty from a charity so trying to spend about £5 each.

They're all mums of young babies.

What do you think to getting them all glossy boxes and a bar of chocolate?

We wrap the gifts and label them from their baby to be opened Christmas morning.

Midwintermayhem · 29/11/2024 19:17

Any suggestions for the best way to buy 2 Victoria secret body sprays? It's 2 for £24 on their website but I resent paying the postage. You lot have spoiled me. Thanks

Aww what a lovely thing to do.

Maybe some chocs and some nice toiletries? I’m sure they’d appreciate that 😊

It’s also 2 for £24 on the Next website, in case that helps? Delivery to a local Next store?

@PeskyPotato - what a nice idea. I wouldn’t get anything from GlossyBox, though. Most of the contents in the box I received were missing and GB haven’t responded to my complaint.

Some ideas:

Superdrug have 3 4 2 on their trial sizes. you could buy a selection and mix and match:

I’m so happy to hear this as I’ve ordered it and planning to give it to the DC on Christmas Eve! Thanks for the update! Can I ask - Is it tricky to set up (would it be worth doing a trial of it with DH beforehand?)

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 29/11/2024 19:45

@LizMay29 there you are! 😁😁 I've took a screenshot so I can remember your name, I'll send you a message when I know what's what, should be before Thursday 🤗

Do you have a Next account as they sell Victorias Secret on there? @Midwintermayhem

Argh I just paid 32 for this set on Amazon. Good spot Mrs Gnome. I think it's only the ones that have 30% sticker.

I also bought for Christmas after it was posted on here, and the advice on this thread was to set it up beforehand. It’s not very time consuming (assuming good internet), but takes a bit of time. I’ve also added our family members and ages.

The plus side of this was that yesterday (and I guess today?) the add ons were half price and I bought 4 other question sets (where in the world 1&2, who said that and one other) for less than £4.

I get a monthly Glossybox and generally really like it, however my experience of the special offer ones isn’t good. I’ve tried twice and had weird make up no one would use eg. Purple lipsticks and unusual colours. I might have just been unlucky.

I’d say go for chocolate, fluffy socks for a couple of quid in Primark, face mask from B&M / Home Bargains (3 for 2 or 2 for £1), maybe a nail files and varnish or hand cream or shower gel from one of the shops above and put it all in a bag or box they can reuse ?

I’ve seen Roka bags mentioned a few times on this thread - are they good bags? A good idea for a 25 year old? Although I would imagine anything would be better than the bag she’s using at the moment, which is my son’s old school bag. He’s 29…
