Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Oh my gosh, I have finally managed to catch up!

Had this in my amazon basket since last year's threads and it's finally reduced. Ticket to Ride - First Journey - Of Wonder | Ticket To Ride First Journey Europe Board Game | Ages 6+ | For 2 To 4 Players | Average Playtime 15-30 Minutes amzn.eu/d/gX7kVEE Ticket to Ride game

Have also picked a tag from the local giving tree and I've got a 12 year old girl requesting toiletries. Any ideas what's cool around that age? Going to add some other little bits too. Ideally want to buy in person because it's something I do with my own kids.

Waffles21 · 29/11/2024 15:52

@SweetPeaPods thank you so much, you’re a Christmas angel! I did a massive laithwaites order last night and saw your message, called them and they were so helpful, ordered the whole lot again, cancelled the old order and saved £70!!!! Sending you a massive virtual hug!

Thank you to the pp who posted about the keyboard on Amazon. My dd has started lessons and a keyboard was on her xmas list. So this was perfect and a great price

Any suggestions where to get a nice cream coloured lounge set?

Are nordic socks worth the money? I want some nice thick socks for dog walking

No, they are cheaply made and not natural fibres. You can buy the same ones on Shein etc. I've bought both and compared.

My 12 year old has asked for bubble or byoma skin care (byoma is 30% off on look fantastic which i got from a earlier poster!) Also sol de janeiro sprays are always popular too 😀. In person Boots will stock them all!

OkyDoke · 29/11/2024 16:46

Some of the Ticket To Ride games are in Black Friday on Waterstones too, plus double points! Triple points if you spend over £100, includes preorders

HairyPotter · 29/11/2024 16:48

Would any one know if any FatFace codes lurking around? Can’t bring myself to pay full price. Thanks so much

Hiya yes it's this one. I have no idea about them but I asked my friend who is a music teacher about it when it came on here, and she said its a really good first keyboard.

Is anyone else underwhelmed with Bf?
I feel like it gets worse every year.
I waited to see if the clarksons farm top trumps dropped in price on BF and now they appear to have completely disappeared. Does anyone know where I might find them please

No idea but I really need to get Clarkson Top trumps now for several farming kids I know. Grrr

beetr00 · 29/11/2024 17:26

@Jedstre those Hollywood mirrors seem very expensive.

How about this one

@Crimsonbow Drunk Elephant is trendy for the packaging but very expensive and IMO not really suitable for young skin anyway.
My DD likes Bubble, Byoma and ELF.
You will get more for your money with Elf or Byoma than Bubble.
Sol De Janeiro is also a hit, Primark, Lidl and Home bargains all do dupe versions of their body sprays which are not bad and again more for your money 😊
DD wanted Laneige lip balms but I wasn't willing to pay the price of them, she was very happy with the Dr PawPaw Wicked pink/green lip balm set from superdrug instead though.
Hope this helps!

Zara has lovely ones.

TheCrow · 29/11/2024 17:50

Very pleased with my P.Louise order, I ordered two of the lip sets and a lip gloss, it came in this really nice big gift box and there was a free lip oil sample in the box too which I wasn't expecting. I'm not as pleased with the Amazon delivery service that they used who left my parcel leaning up against my front door in full view of the street all afternoon when there's multiple safe places they could have hidden it!

I feel like the voice of doom, but I wanted to warn others about OHS, where I know a lot of us bought heated blankets. The one we bought wasn't faulty per se, but didn't heat up quickly, compared with the other one we already had (more than ten minutes later it was barely warm). My daughter didn't love it, so I started the returns process. This was easy enough - I had to drop it off to a Yodel point.

Since then, it's been showing that it's been delivered to OHS for over a week, but they haven't provided a refund. I have emailed them chasing up, but still no joy.

I checked TrustPilot and I think I'm not the only one with this issue. Hopefully just a bit overwhelmed with the time of year, but I wouldn't order from them again.

Just an update on this - I raised it as a credit card dispute, and literally within minutes of me submitting it, OHS got in touch asking for proof of what I'd returned (and seemingly had no information about the return I'd already requested). I sent them the proof of postage, and told them they should already have the rest of the information - and I got a refund notification a few hours later.

So if you are having trouble with OHS, I highly recommend you go through your credit card, as it seems to give them a much-needed kick up the arse (plus I believe they have to pay a fee each time a credit card raises a dispute, so it's an incentive for them to up their game.)

@Crimsonbow I just want to congratulate you on your hard fast bargain hunting, a whole year in the basket 😂 Now prepare,.yourself, Ticket to Ride is a family favourite that usually results in a tantrum, someone walking out or someone not talking for the rest of the day! Serious gamers in this house and we take no messing with our routes 😂😂

icouldnteatanotherbite · 29/11/2024 18:27

And my Tiny Tree from Bloom and Wild is delighting me and I'm looking forwards to using it every year. Total bargain for £19 delivered.

I've ordered one for a friend who's housebound and alone for Xmas, and arranged for it to be delivered for tomorrow in time for Advent.

I've ignored all the talk of projectors so far - but how do they work? We have a couple of Google Chromecast casting things that plug into the TV, and a disney subscription. If I buy a projector, will that let me play disney movies on a wall? Does anyone have any BF bargain ones they like?
