Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

i am desperately looking for a Jellycat tumblie duck but they seem to be out of stock everywhere but Ebay where they are ridiculously expensive - dont suppose anyone has seen one in stock anywhere

Haven’t time to read the rest of thread so you may well be sorted but if not - a small shop quite local to me has a massive Jellycat collection. Pm me if you want their details. Will be full price but they are happy to post.

Vimaybe · 29/11/2024 13:48

Robert Dyas have free delivery on over a £30 spend with code: FREEDEL30

I just got toddlers' surprise gift £10 cheaper than the amazon deal, so one worth checking.

Is anyone else underwhelmed with Bf?
I feel like it gets worse every year.
I waited to see if the clarksons farm top trumps dropped in price on BF and now they appear to have completely disappeared. Does anyone know where I might find them please

Found it!

I’ve been told the John Lewis PlayStation is the best deal - not sure why it’s better than curry’s - maybe it’s the 2 years
guarantee.

On a different point I bought an item on Amazon this week which is now reduced in price. Did I see something that they refunded the difference automatically or will I need to return it?

From memory I think they said anything which has the ‘black Friday’ banner on the price they’ll refund if the price goes lower within x days - so depends whether it had the special pricing

something I saw on a website yesterday at £22.50 is now £45 with 30% off.

its been really tricky trying to gauge when to spend your money, which offer to take.
the last couple of years I think it’s been quite damaging for brands as consumers feel ripped off or unsure when to spend their money

This is the Amazon wording regarding Black Friday price difference refunds:

If you purchase a product with the Black Friday Deal badge sold by Amazon from 17-27 November and the price drops further before 23:59 GMT on December 4, we'll automatically refund the difference! We’ll email you when we process your refund.

After asking and asking 'd'h has now asked for a wool scarf and some lined leather gloves. Can anyone suggest where to buy at a good price?

PurpleSock · 29/11/2024 14:09

Not particularly black Friday ish but any recommendations on the best place to buy pom poms (sensory type for a baby, not foil or for actual cheerleading 🤣) please?

A bit niche but if you have Lego insiders make sure you check the offers section. I was able to use 200 of my points to claim a £5 voucher (which was a better deal than usual point redemptions). I could buy 3 of these so a £15 discount. The set I wanted was the Lego Friends Sports Centre https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/sports-center-41744 which was reduced to 50.99 from £84.99. I got it for £34.99 with the free postage still applied. V pleased!

Bizarrely Lego are showing this out of stock despite it being digital. 🙄(this face is for Lego not the OP)

I was in Morrisons this morning and delighted to find Toblerone and Ferrero Roche half price with the More card. Also various gift sets half price. Worth a look if you've got one local. The Toblerone in particular was the cheapest I've seen it so far (so I bought 3 bars 😂).

I’m looking for a Hollywood mirror for my daughter. I’ve looked at https://www.hollywoodmirrors.co.uk but if anyone has better recommendations or suggestions please.

If you go to The Range and search 'Hollywood mirror,' a few come up.

RainbowPhilosophy · 29/11/2024 15:15

I know Throw Throw Burrito has been popular in the past... The Entertainer have it for £6.99 and you can get £10 off a £60 spend or £20 off £100 spend with the code SAVEMORE. They have Ka-Blab reduced to £6.25 too, which was a hit with my then-6yo-DS last year (he did need to team up with an adult for help on some question categories). He liked the fast pace of it and we played it several times over Christmas with extended family so all ages joined in. The code still works on already-reduced toys 😊

Slater22 · 29/11/2024 15:18

Hoping someone can help - friends daughter 18th just after Xmas - she has a really hard year so would like to get something special but have no ideas what… She is into more alternative stuff, TikTok obsessed 🙄, very arty and creative. Around £40-50. Any thoughts gratefully received?!

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 29/11/2024 15:29

I was able to get 10% off JD stuff that was excluded from promotions by downloading their app and using the code you get with that.

Carrie76 · 29/11/2024 15:29

@Slater22 my 18yr old niece sounds similar. Her mum sent me a list of things she would like such as Lego flowers set, Pretty note books, "really nice pjs", Clay set which has clay rolling pin, work board etc. She's just got into clay modelling, doesn't do a class or anything she's just teaching herself. Hope that helps
