Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Has anyone seen any slushy syrup at a good price? The best I can find is this two pack at Amazon for £10 but I'd prefer to only get one bottle if possible. Doesn't have to be branded. Or are there any other products that would do the job?

A bit niche but if you have Lego insiders make sure you check the offers section. I was able to use 200 of my points to claim a £5 voucher (which was a better deal than usual point redemptions). I could buy 3 of these so a £15 discount. The set I wanted was the Lego Friends Sports Centre https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/sports-center-41744 which was reduced to 50.99 from £84.99. I got it for £34.99 with the free postage still applied. V pleased!

Ahh no 😭 I wish I had read this a couple of hours ago. I bought the Nightmare before Christmas set this morning and could have saved £15!
I might redeem the point anyway and get something for myself (sadly the above set is not for me)

PosyStarling · 29/11/2024 12:12

Etsy have 30% off a lot of gifts Etsy Cyber Week including some hot chocolate boxes @deeplybaffled - hot chocolate gift

@hugsandpugs I am bereft, there's no socks in my Vodafone rewards Sad don't know why as I've bought them every year!

mogtheexcellent · 29/11/2024 12:13

Awww Lottie Dolls. My DD adored hers. The first was an xmas bargain thread buy back in 2016 (Pirate Lottie for 7.99). Ive literally just put them all (8! in the end) in the loft as we were up there getting the xmas decs down. sob! I recommend if you are buying for girls aged 4-8, DD has only just stopped playing with hers at 10 and a half.

Since my DH dropped the flimsy amazon bauble box and smashed a load of baubles this morning Xmas Hmm I have been looking for the really usefull storage bauble box and its cheapest in Asda only £17.50

Someone very kindly gave me an argos code for a big spend last month, and I now have to buy 2 scooters, coming in at £67. If anyone has a code to take a little bit off that, I would be so grateful!

Will be sitting down to find some bargains later, so will report back with any great finds. 😁

Oh that’s weird! Unless it’s account specific 😬👎

I would much appreciate an Argos code if any available so I can purchase the excellent exercise gift recommendations received earlier! I'm feeling the Christmas buzz for the first time today.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 29/11/2024 12:23

Just to say that this Galaxy hot chocolate station linked to via Amazon upthread is only £5.99 in B&M (it was a tenner on Amazon)

Also, my local B&M had tons of these Guylian four pack of Seahorses for 79p. Great teacher gifts and stocking fillers.

fishfingersandchipsagain · 29/11/2024 12:29

I categorically cannot get Laithwaites codes to work, and I can’t be bothered to phone them.

New customer account. Cleared cookies. Tried codes 30OFF and 40OFF for new customer. The 30OFF code is from their own banner. It says the code is applied but doesn’t take anything off. No champagne in any items in the basket.

Am trying to buy the winter warming hamper and a couple of the Kew gift sets. Haven’t tried a referral because the 30OFF code should give a better discount.

Any ideas?

I have to mentally gee myself up every time but once im on the phone its painless

Their website will just not accept them sometimes

yoshiblue · 29/11/2024 12:31

Thanks for sharing the extra discounts on Lego with Asda today. Got the Christmas tree for my son's room for £24, it's £37 on Amazon!

Does this mean the £5 codes stack? So I have 1600 points, I can convert into 8 £5 codes. Can I then use all 8 codes on 1 order? I always thought it was one code per order!

Anyone know anything about massage guns? DS 14 has just announced he’d like one.

The best buy is a theragun mini. My PT is also a PHD student at OU studying use of massage guns- the big Theragun is the absolute best but the mini is a close second and lighter to use.

Could anyone who uses gym equipment at home recommend something simple but effective for an older person with coordination issues. Intention is to keep strength and mobility. They use a rower and a ski erg at the gym, which they like, lift weights and have dumbbells at home. Looking for a piece of equipment but not treadmill or stair climber as hard to get on/off. Ideas and bargains really appreciated.

Mini resistance bands? You can do loads with them, v cheap, easy to store.

Aromatherapy Associates: 30% off with BF30

Neom: 25% off with SWEET

If you just want the oils (like I did), it’s cheaper to use FREEOIL when you buy three, you get one free.

Omg the cheap mini Guylians are back!

@Itsmariahcareydefrostingseason I could only buy three codes (it said maximum order of 3) and yes I just added each one to the order by clicking on Add an insiders gift code three times.

@hugsandpugs the points come from the sets you have bought direct from Lego in the last of you create an Insiders account. You can scan Lego instructions and register the sets with them to get points too.

IlovePond · 29/11/2024 13:09

Found it!

I’ve been told the John Lewis PlayStation is the best deal - not sure why it’s better than curry’s - maybe it’s the 2 years
guarantee.

On a different point I bought an item on Amazon this week which is now reduced in price. Did I see something that they refunded the difference automatically or will I need to return it?
