Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I’ve received an email from Argos saying these items are dropping in price tonight, obviously don’t know what they’re dropping to but may be worth keeping an eye out if there’s something you want

Has anyone bought the kids pjs from M&S? Are they true to size? I Want to grab some for my niece who is 10 in February not sure if I should get 9/10 or 10/11

Hohohopeful · 28/11/2024 12:48

@juicyjellybaby yes M and as PJs are true to size, but fit quite neatly (one of my children with sensory issues prefers a size or two up).

A request- My eldest DD is 11 and starting high school in August. She will need a wallet for her bus pass and bank card- not too bulky preferably. Does anyone know what is 'in' for teens? She is a very young 11, but i don't think her current unicorn or pug shaped purses will fly.

Bippityboppitybooo · 28/11/2024 12:50

@juicyjellybaby I size up m&s kids jammies too (also for a sensory child). They're a slimmer fit than most others.

I have bought for my DD. The slim fit styles are fairly slim. They sit snug, but not tight, around her round-ish belly. She's short, but not fat. She's nearly 4 and has recently moved up to 4-5, the 3-4 getting a bit small.

Honestly, probably best to go for the bigger size, unless she's very small for her age. I think M&S do gift receipts for exchanges too, if needed.

Both my DDs store their cards in their phone case as opposed to carrying a purse. They do have purses which they use occasionally and both opted for white / cream plain styles.

BoilingHotand50something · 28/11/2024 12:54

I have been waiting for Victorias Secret Black Friday for a month or so, given my daughter had some £60 pyjamas on her list! It is live today with 25% off some items but sadly not the pyjamas in question so she has got the New Look dupe. If anyone else has VS items on their list, quite a lot has been reduced so worth checking it out.

My 16 yr old likes the ones from Yoshi books or cute animals (but she doesn't care about what's "in")

One of mine is 10 in March & she's getting 10-11 - average height longer back than average

TheGirlWhoLived · 28/11/2024 13:06

Definitely size up in m and s, particular if you tumble dry, even if it says tumble dry friendly, I reckon it takes a half size off

Thanks for the suggestion unfortunately he went through 2 of these last winter as the actual scraper was very flimsy, or he was a bit forceful maybe. He now has a more heavy duty scraper which is great, but poor thing now has cold hands 😂

What about the Swedish ones? Ice scraper

i know it’s not the gloves you asked!

@Hohohopeful I buy little card holders (most have a zipped bit for coins) from Accessorize for my teen niece. They come in lots of colours, though I stick to the muted or metallic nudes as that seems popular in makeup and jogger sets. They currently have a discount for BF.

Hi, I'm getting my 4.5 year old a megladon monster truck - he's never had a remote control car before and loves megladons :). I've just bought him the 1:24 one at £14.10, however the bigger storm one has just been reduced to £28.

Does anyone have any experience of these? I'm happy to replace with the bigger one if that's better/more impressive (had given up on it going lower in price), thanks

Theonlywayisuptoyou · 28/11/2024 13:21

myvolvohasavulva · 28/11/2024 12:12

@Theonlywayisuptoyou not a very glamorous offering but I work outside and my favourite waterproof/warm gloves are 'portwest thermo pro ultra gloves' they're a bit orange and very much work gloves but do the job! I get mine at a farm supplies shop but imagine they're easy to find!

I’ll check them out, thanks for the recommendation, at least being orange he might not take them out of the car and lose them. unlike many other regular gloves he’s had.

The bigger one is a loud, fast, grippy outdoor one. It’s really good!
so if you wanted something tamer for around the house, the one you have will be good. If you want an insane screeching power house, the STORM one is amazing! It has wow factor but can be a bit intimidating in close quarters.

An ask sorry - does anyone have experience with the original duckhead umbrellas?

They have a Sale on and I was thinking of getting for MIL as they seem quite classic/stylish and she needs nothing - but don’t want to get one if they’re not actually nice quality/good to use.

Thanks :-)

Ooh thanks for the suggestion, I like these, he does love a gadget would be a good option if he manages to break the one he has just now. Reviews look good. I think I’m going to order one anyway for his Christmas stocking.

There’s money off odd balls at the moment. These are expensive, but great musical instruments. Oddball
you bounce the ball and it makes different sounds, it’s more of an adult gift than a toy

Are you affiliated or a customer? Am I reading it right that with discount it's £76 for a ball that makes noises?

Does anyone know if there's ever a Black Friday jellycat discount?

May have been mentioned before but think this type of eBay purchase is a lovely stocking filler for glasses wearers if you have a photo to upload

Iceland has a buy one get one free on a Cadbury's selection box making it two for £2.50 (though it's also on offer in Asda for £1.50 per box). I might stock up as you don't get that many chocolate bars for £1.25 often these days, even if some are little!

Today until 2nd December Historic Royal Palaces are offering half price delivery, which might help with some niche gifts Royal Palace

Thanks for that, another option to consider, I haven’t seen this type of scraper before it looks interesting

Bippityboppitybooo · 28/11/2024 14:12

@AnyankaJenkins We have both little and storm. The little is great for around the house (we actually have 2 so the kids can race). The storm is really for outside unless your home is huge, its very loud and very fast! Ds has got the giant el torro loco for this year actually, its been in storage for like 2 years now, and it's bigger than the storm 😳

We used to use a funnel for scraping ice like this in the winter. Dammit, I could've been a millionaire by now!!
