Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

My Deans shortbread (no 1) has arrived. It really is a bit of a bargain. Ds3 and dh have already eaten a box of it! The leaflet that came with it has the Discount code ENJOY15 and says discount can only be used once per customer and online only. I expect it will work on the Christmas hampers in case anyone needs more shortbread.

My Peacocks order arrived and it’s pretty disappointing. The fleece onesies look thin and cheap. To be fair, they were cheap, so can’t really complain. I have ordered everything again from M&S (double the price) and will return the Peacocks. I did find a 20% off pyjamas on my Sparks card that wasn’t there yesterday so I suppose that’s a win.

I think that’s me done. Just some sweets and beer which I will get with the supermarket shop. Now no twitching!

Waffles21 · 28/11/2024 14:45

my sparks app has 20% off pjs,I know somebody was asking about sizes so worth checking your deals! I agree with other pps, I always size up for length.

ElvenElf · 28/11/2024 14:49

Hohohopeful · 28/11/2024 12:48

@juicyjellybaby yes M and as PJs are true to size, but fit quite neatly (one of my children with sensory issues prefers a size or two up).

A request- My eldest DD is 11 and starting high school in August. She will need a wallet for her bus pass and bank card- not too bulky preferably. Does anyone know what is 'in' for teens? She is a very young 11, but i don't think her current unicorn or pug shaped purses will fly.

My teens use phone cases with integrated card holders like this:

@juicyjellybaby I size up m&s kids jammies too (also for a sensory child). They're a slimmer fit than most others.

I just learned today that apparently children's pyjamas are heavily regulated and designed to be snug fit to reduce risk of fire hazard.who knew? My sen kid gets one pyjama set, then that he wears to death everyday. M&S ones are really comfy so far no sensory issues.

Nobodysaiditwouldbeeasy88 · 28/11/2024 14:54

Urban Outfitters - Stanley Cups are reduced!!!

Yeknom · 28/11/2024 15:06

Funny - id say the opposite! M&S always come up huge on my kids

SootspriteSearcher · 28/11/2024 15:22

Just a reminder to check your local charity shops! I picked up some books for dd2 for 50p-£1 each. Obviously it takes some time and rummaging. So if you don't have the time worldofbooks are doing buy 3 get 1 free on all their preloved books under £12. Pretty speedy delivery too!

Now does anyone have a fun idea to wrap up the book pile I've accumulated?! I did a box/hamper for her birthday using lesbian flag wrapping paper. If it helps with ideas they are primarily LGBT books and dd is 12!

Thegoldgrind · 28/11/2024 15:38

There are some better reductions on Amazon on Hotel Chocolat - the wreath is down to 40 and a rather nice hamper is 39.51 which I had been hoping for!

AltitudeCheck · 28/11/2024 15:39

@SootspriteSearcher how about (environmentally friendly choice) wrapping in an actual flag (or other fabric)... a 🌈 flag she could either hang in her room/ wave it when the occasion arises or a other fabric ideas.... Dock& Bay towel / hammam towel / sarong she might use?

Are you affiliated or a customer? Am I reading it right that with discount it's £76 for a ball that makes noises?

Does anyone know if there's ever a Black Friday jellycat discount?

May have been mentioned before but think this type of eBay purchase is a lovely stocking filler for glasses wearers if you have a photo to upload

customer. its a great bit of kit for those interested in percussion and music

unclebuck · 28/11/2024 15:54

@ElvenElf Just a word of caution for your teens - if a thief has the card and the phone with an app on it they can get the pin number even without opening the phone. You and yours covered it extensively as a lot of people have had phones and cards stolen from gym lockers and then they get the pin from the app and in one case spent £30K in the 45 mins before the poor woman cvame out of the gym. Maybe have a listen to this https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001brnl#:~:text=You%20and%20Yours%20has%20uncovered,we%20bring%20you%20the%20details.

Morning! Wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with a Magic Mixies situation. I got swept along by the bargain talk and picked up one from Argos but I have twins and they only had one available. I’ve been checking over the last couple of weeks but they don’t seem to be getting any more in. I also tried ordering in store but there were none available to order. Amazon do have it but at nearly double the price!

Has anyone come across them anywhere else for closer to £20? Or would anyone happen to live nearby to Edgware Argos to pick one up?

Thanks so much in advance x

Can't help out there, but their rainbow ones (usually £70) also went down in price recently - do they need to be the same blue one? Amazon also had them for £20ish

Can you make one of those sleighs people are making with chocolate bars and candie canes - there are loads if you google for an idea - just thinking choc bars and books are loosely the same shape just a different size !

Anyone know of any discount codes for JD sports please?! 🙏 even if it’s just free delivery or 10% off

Morrisons have some amazingly thick and soft PJ's at quite reasonable prices. I got several pairs at £6 each in the sale and £9 full price. I'm quite envious of my children wearing them!

Raindancer411 · 28/11/2024 16:34

Has anyone any techy gifts for a 12/13 year old. He has a stylus for the mobile, and a light that changes colour as well as the light up gaming keyboard and mouse.

evtheria · 28/11/2024 16:50

@SootspriteSearcher
Could you do a book bouquet (laid carefully on top of a present on the the big day)? I've attached some pics off Pinterest. Flowers, chocolate bars, lollies, etc tucked around the books. I think double sided tape may be involved but I would use washi so it doesn't ruin book covers.
Maybe too similar to your prev wrapping, but each book in a colour of the flag, then all tied together with a bow or some parcel string, so the spines look like the flag?

Ds3 (18) says led strips as backlights for his computer, a headset or spare controller, a lamp or light that reflects onto the ceiling. Firebox (which is apparently an online shop) has techy things that ds likes.

Mario light was popular with my 12 year old dgs last year and also comes in “minecraft”. I got them cheaper on eBay.

I got This Clock for ds3 last year which he loved but he says he’s a bit of a funny one so he’s not sure.

or This that I got for ds1 a couple of years ago and was much appreciated.

Hi, I'm getting my 4.5 year old a megladon monster truck - he's never had a remote control car before and loves megladons :). I've just bought him the 1:24 one at £14.10, however the bigger storm one has just been reduced to £28.

Does anyone have any experience of these? I'm happy to replace with the bigger one if that's better/more impressive (had given up on it going lower in price), thanks

DS has got the larger one that he got last Christmas (he's 5). It's fantastic, it's been so abused but still works fine, and wherever he takes it to the park he collects other children who chase it like he's the pied piper. Only complaint I have it that I thought it would self right itself but it doesn't most of the time so it does get stuck on its side a bit

motheronthedancefloor · 28/11/2024 17:28

deals on candles and chocolates please?

Also still stuck for an older teenage boy!

ScarlettSahara · 28/11/2024 17:37

Tried to create a link & tried to copy and paste but failed miserably. Argentum Apothecary (website = Argentum.com) have 25% off everything with free gifts- think it was full range of small samples of their fragrances.

Am currently really enjoying their ‘Lover’ fragrance which smells to me like a slightly spicy rose. Their range is luxury skincare with natural ingredients & fragrance as skincare (no alcohol). Very prettily packaged too. For anyone in London, they have a store in Notting Hill with a cafe and treatment room. Am hoping to go and take a look sometime.

Thank you so much for the thread- have bought daughter Loop earplugs at 25% off.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 28/11/2024 17:37

Sorry, I can't remember who was after the blue Mixie genie lamp but I've got one I bought as a 'just incase' present. I find out next week if my family member is visiting us over Christmas but if not, I don't mind posting it over, if you don't get one before then ☺️
