Thread 11 - the one where I’m nostalgic for a cinnamon bum kit

Reastie · 13/11/2024 15:09

Thanks @Beautifulsunflowers for the title. It was close between that and E.L.F on a shelf and some others - too many to choose from!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

EXTRA30 gets you 30% off the outlet at Ulster Weavers Outlet | Sale | UP TO 85% OFF ALL OUTLET LINES | Ulster Weavers I got lovely teatowels from here last year

It's FLASH30 for the extra 30% off the Outlet at Ulster Weavers. Thank you @hiredandsqueak - I've got a gorgeous king size duvet set, oven gloves, and tea towels coming (free postage) all for less than £30!

Thelifeofawife · 15/11/2024 21:40

@hugsandpugs which ELF mascara did you get? I’ve still got a couple of offers on my account to use and am looking for a new mascara

Dolphintrainer · 15/11/2024 21:43

@Changingagain how about an inflatable chair? Perhaps with a gaming or sport theme? I know you said you have limited space but it wouldn’t need to be inflated all the time, just for Christmas, sleepovers, etc. you can have it inflated for Christmas morning as it’s a big wow gift he can enjoy then deflate it and put it away afterwards. And only £20 or so too.

Not sure if it has been mentioned today Matalan have some red Friday offers worth a look, bought a cute hot chocolate plush which is a hot water bottle for £8.00

Thanks for the ulster weaver's offer and the Victoria Beckham freebie eyeliner think that's enough for tonight's shopping😆

M&S has 40% off some fragrance hampers. Includes some Apothecary ones and this Lime, Bergamot & Mandarin Gift Set now £36 which I’d be very happy to receive

It’s lovely I bought one on a similar promotion earlier in the year.

I don’t think it’s been mentioned but Argos has a 3 for £20 offer on some toys which includes some Lego sets too.

After ignoring all the oodie/fake oodie chat, my son has announced the one he has is ‘too young’ for him now. Where is the best place for one? Not bothered about it being branded, probably looking for a football or gaming themed one if anyone can recommend

Online home store have a gaming one really cheap, i’ve got one for my DS for Xmas 🎄

Tbry24 · 15/11/2024 22:28

Thanks for the Harper Collins discount I’m on their mailing list, I thought, and didn’t get sent anything. I’ve got five gorgeous just out books for £37 , really pleased as two of them I had seen in my local bookshop this week and were more than that alone (I’ve only been buying secondhand books or free book swaps all year due to COL).

But I’ve treated myself as I’m making a big hamper-esque gift for under the tree for myself and my family….books, jigsaws, snacks, hot chocolate and so on. So the books will finish it all off, I went for the new edition of towards zero, Murder in Tinseltown, a 2025 almanac, the glassmaker and the joy of wintering.

Also harper collins is now blackfriday40 for 40% off it changed over as I was ordering last night.

@hoopdeloop - Oodies are massively reduced atm: Kids’ Oodies from £19.50:

https://theoodie.co.uk/collections/products#/filter:data-status:In-Stock/filter:data-size:kids/sort:data-price:asc

Primark do excellent lighter weight versions for kids and adults that they call snuddies.

M&S kids’ hooded blankets are also lighter than Oodies and very good. (The adult versions at M&S are little more than short furry ponchos and quite ghastly imo, but the kids’ ones are great and 13-14 and 15-16 are small adult sized.)

I have a bit of a hooded blanket collection going on myself!

@IlovePond yes Aldi no 39 is a dupe of JM Poppy and Barley, not smelt it myself

Gettingthereslowly1 · 15/11/2024 22:49

@roosterroo I’d love to know about the Victoria beckham eyeliner offer - do you have the details please?

HeartandSeoul · 15/11/2024 22:57

Not strictly a gift as such, but something to enjoy in the busyness of Christmas….

🎟️🎬 2 x Odeon Tickets for £10, mon-thurs 🎬🎟️

Seeing someone mention a cinema ticket offer a few pages back reminded me to share a good deal I recently discovered as an Amazon Prime customer. Apologies if I’m the last to know about it 😁.

I was browsing through the Prime section on the Amazon app, and there are some offers there. One is for 2 x standard Odeon seats for £10 (£15 for recliner seats). You can use the offer once a month, and there don’t appear to be any restrictions re: not being able to watch newly released films. They can, however, only be used Mondays to Thursdays.

I thought this was a really good offer, considering the usual price for one adult ticket is £12.99!

CoffeeAndEnnui · 15/11/2024 22:59

@shinny , I posted a £10 off and free postage one-day offer for Stanley Cups at Urban Outfitters a few days ago (mine just arrived), it's over now but I would suggest subscribing to their email/newsletter signup so you know when the next offer is. I'd imagine Black Friday. Alternatively, registering for the OU app gets you a decent discount.

IlovePond · 15/11/2024 23:01

Thanks @Waffles21 - I’ll try to have a sniff of JM’s poppy scent tomorrow. I know it’s only £6.99 but I can’t abide waste and if I don’t like the smell I won’t use it! So annoyed I picked up the wrong one 😿

I usually buy dd a copy of vogue magazine in Spanish and one in French for her stocking. I buy from Newstand and they have go so expensive I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of a different mag I could try. She’s not a vogue reader - it was all I could come up with.
She is 22 and prob more into something news/music/current affairs. She likes the free mag you get in French airports.

Thank you.

Have you tried Readly app 🥰

Thelifeofawife · 15/11/2024 23:27

@hugsandpugs thank you! I’ve ordered it, and had my birthday lipgloss available plus the lip duo and a mini mascara. There were a couple of other things but it wouldn’t let me redeem them all together

bumblebeedee · 15/11/2024 23:28

Hi, does anyone have any argos code going please?

Oh fab! Hope you like it 😊 I’m tempted to do another small order for the lip gloss duo. I’ll have enough lip gloss to last me the next couple of years 😂

Does anyone have any suggestions for physically big but cheapish gifts for a 9 year old boy? All the things he's asked for this year are small boxes while his little sister has asked for much bigger things. I'm just a bit worried that his pile before unwrapping is going to look a bit sad compared to hers.
If it's something that gets 'used up' somehow or is actually quite small once out of the box, that would be even better because our house is not big lol.

A new quilt with themed cover on?
Pillow/ cushion for on his bed? With themed cover.
Fleece blanket
Bean bag.
Put at least one of his gifts in a big box and fill with packaging of some kind but add some sweets of food items within the packaging- if it can link to the gift in some way even better.

IlovePond · 15/11/2024 23:40

I am living life on the edge and risking another ELF order. I have ordered a tiny moisturiser to try for £5, and added the free travel mascara and lip duo to my basket with free shipping.

If it all arrives, I will be pleased.

I do find the ELF app very glitchy - I wrote some reviews but didn’t get any points added, plus it made me use a different username for each review, (which can’t be right!) I also couldn’t access the games at all today - it kept saying my password was wrong, (it wasn’t!)

Meanwhile, I have a basket full of totally unnecessary Ulster Weavers products…

How do you get the games to give you points? I tried for ages the other night …. At least an hour of my life lost 😂

IlovePond · 16/11/2024 00:04

@hugsandpugs - the other day, (when the site was still letting me onto the games), when I ‘got them right’, I got rewards points. Unfortunately, I couldn’t actually work out what I was meant to be doing, (and I am quite good at online games), and neither could DH and he’s brilliant at that sort of stuff.

I then spent a ludicrous amount of time bashing keys in every conceivable sequence. Eventually I reached level 3, got stuck halfway through completion and FINALLY realised I needed to just STOP😹😹😹

To add insult to injury, the points I won didn’t seem to transfer to my Rewards.

I have reached the conclusion that either all the people who play ELF games successfully are vastly superior technological geniuses or, (and I suspect this may be more likely), I wasted far too much time on a beeping game that was faulty as well as glitchy!
