Thread 11 - the one where I’m nostalgic for a cinnamon bum kit

Reastie · 13/11/2024 15:09

Thanks @Beautifulsunflowers for the title. It was close between that and E.L.F on a shelf and some others - too many to choose from!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

My ELF order arrived and its...just an empty box! 😭😭 It had been "damaged" by royal mail and the empty (and clearly opened along the rip off bit!) and theyd put the empty box inside a "we're sorry we damaged your parcel" bag. Hope elf believe me when i email then cos it kind of looks like Ive emptied it myself!!

That's awful. Keep all the packaging, they'll want you to photo the royal mail sticker.

Email photos of the box & the ‘sorry we damaged your parcel’ note to ELF.

I had it last year with Fossil, although it was them who sent an empty box. I thought ‘how do I prove it was empty’ but they did refund me.
And it seems like ELF are living up to their name being charitable and sending out lots of free stuff, so it’s worth a try

Thelifeofawife · 15/11/2024 18:11

My ELF order arrived, never been so disappointed to receive what I ordered 😅
It was just 2 items, no free gift as I decided it was still worth it with the £10 off and free postage.
I do have another one on the way though, so will see what happens with that

The Skye candle offer isn’t working for me - it’s saying the voucher isn’t valid for my basket. I added 2 of the 40% off candles, is it only for full price?

Check your account is logged in with the same email you requested the code with, worked fine with mine this morning once I swapped back!

MamaK19 · 15/11/2024 18:15

Can anyone help me out with any bargains for a furby must be pink, so assume the cotton candy one is the only one, loom bands and a princess dolls house, doesn’t have to be Barbie but needs to be suitably exciting as will be a main gift, thanks so much!!! Promise this will be the last post where I am asking for help 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It’s not working for me either but that’s possibly a good thing as I don’t really need a candle!

@MamaK19 how about This princess dolls house from Very. No idea if that's a good price

Any ideas for a book for a 12 year old who is just getting into politics/current affairs? Since starting secondary school she has been very interested in what is happening in the news/the US election. She has also been learning about African stereotypes at school. I’m thinking she would like some sort of simple world history or politics book.

This looks basic but it actually very interestingly written with clever graphics - there’s a whole series (including politics) www.axelbooks.com/products/usborne-big-subjects-for-beginners-5-books-collection-box-set

Free Eyewear in Oyster or Bottle Green with all orders at Victoria Beckham Beauty

These are highly rated smudgy eyeliner sticks, I've been wanting to try them for a long time so am gifting myself one of my choice, another eyeliner (to get free del) plus the freebie. Can also use code HELLO15 for extra discount.

Don't add the stick yourself from the catalogue to your basket: when checking out you should see a green side tab on the right of the screen saying to 'add gift' or whatever, the free eyewear options will be there.

I had this with gruum, a few weeks ago. Had never experienced that before. Gruum honoured or immediately and sent out another parcel, they're fab.

@BangFlash @Thelifeofawife thank you - i have saved it all and taken photos - i sent them a message in their contact form but might email too so i can attach the photos too - i swear when this kind of things happens i feel almost guilty by the thought that i COULD have opened it and kept the stuff even though i know i havent! 🤦‍♀️😂

My ELF order arrived. It’s correct, and not bad for £12, (plus I scored two rather nice reusable brown envelopes!)

Everything apart from the free lipgloss is smaller than I expected, but I am pleased overall.

Looking forward to trying the liquid eyeshadow asap!

I was happy with mine too, the coconut mist smells amazing and the mascara is insane- grips the really small lashes in the corners etc and doesn’t clump 🙏

gaggiagirl · 15/11/2024 18:41

Some of you may remember a few years ago on these Christmas threads, the bargain spode Christmas tree dinner set. I purchased it and would like to add more cereal bowls and side plates if anyone can advise where is best and most bargainous to buy from.
Ive been able to buy additional dinner plates for my set from tk Maxx at a reduced price if anyone is looking for more plates or spode items.

Not very festive but I'm in the market for a Suri toothbrush if anyone spots a good deal please shout. I've got a £10 off £100 voucher at Argos if anyone could use it?

They were included in the last Prime day savings so maybe hold out for Black Friday?

okayhescereal · 15/11/2024 18:46

Yoto currently have a deal on their adventure bundle, but not overtly listed as a 'Black Friday' deal. Does anyone know if this is the offer? Stupidly bought headphones on a lightning deal a few months ago so just need the player and jacket!!

Loving this thread.

Mum wants a Henry vacuum. Has anyone seen a good offer or discount at an electrical store?

Asda has a Henry pet vacuum cleaner for £120 if you have a rewards card for the next 2 days.

TheCrow · 15/11/2024 18:51

Oreyt · 15/11/2024 16:29

@TheCrow
Some people aren't happy with just a discount.

What do you mean? 😂

IlovePond · 15/11/2024 18:55

Thanks for that info @hugsandpugs - I wouldn’t mind trying the mascara!

On an unrelated note:

When I was visiting an exciting new - to me - Aldi today, I picked up a bottle of what I thought was the no 3, (the dupe of Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir). I have both JM and the dupe already, and I swear my non-expert nose cannot tell the difference.

I was therefore delighted to see some in this store as they never stock any of the toiletry/perfume dupes in those closest to me.

I’ve just got home - I picked up no 39 instead 🙈

My first instinct was to take it back to my nearest store for a refund, but before I trek all the way over there for the sake of £6.99, can anybody tell me if no 39 is nice? Does it smell like the JM poppy scent? (I don’t know what that smells like either, but I could have an experimental sniff in store tomorrow).

Thanks

YeahWellWhyNot · 15/11/2024 18:58

Has anyone seen any of the Christmas pasta shapes yet? I got some from Aldi last year for a couple of quid. Would love to get some more if poss
