Thread 11 - the one where I’m nostalgic for a cinnamon bum kit

Reastie · 13/11/2024 15:09

Thanks @Beautifulsunflowers for the title. It was close between that and E.L.F on a shelf and some others - too many to choose from!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Any suggestions for an illustrated original grimms fairy tales - not the sanitised version?!

Would this one from the Folio Society fit the bill? Grimm’s Fairy Tales | The Folio Society

If you give them your date of birth they send you a £10 off voucher!

Grimm’s Fairy Tales

This Folio edition, a facsimile of the British edition of 1909, contains 60 of The Brothers Grimm’s most famous tales, including ‘Snow White’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’ and ‘Red Riding Hood’.

Another thanks for the Harper Collins- had ordered my dad 3 books off Amazon but have managed to get the full set of 5 for the same price on HC & am returning the Amazon set.
Also ordered the new Nigel slater for £10 as missed that when it was that price on Amazon

Shufflebumnessie · 14/11/2024 14:29

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but my local Tesco has huge reductions on some clothing, but they're not marked on the labels.
I picked up a Marvel Venom tshirt for DS for Christmas. It was marked down from £9 to £5 but scanned through at 75p.
There were big reductions on some costumes too. I got a Wednesday Addams costume from £19 to £7 but it scanned through at 3p (yes, 3p!!!) & a cat dress with headband etc also for 3p.
Plus a newborn baby outfit for DD dolls for 3p.

InbetweenDreams · 14/11/2024 14:36

@handmademitlove I have a Grimm’s fairy tales with the original text called “Grimms Fairy Tales, Everyman’s Library, Children’s Classics” it’s available on amazon for £12.20. It’s only black and white illustrations but it’s a lovely book

mummyof2boys30 · 14/11/2024 14:38

Has anyone got one of the musical boxing pad things. Think DS would like one but reviews are mixed.

@hugsandpugs - I've found your referral. But your candle looks like a large one? The candles in the sale look tiny. How did you get it for £3.50?

This is the size of it next to a standard sized mug, hope this helps 🎄

I need a tea gift for DH who has suddenly got 'in' to tea. He likes posh English/breakfast tea and isnt mad on herbal or black tea

Any nice advent calendars or posh tea gifts that are mainly traditional tea?

I did a google but got very overwhelmed!!

He is currently enjoying fortnum and mason breakkie tea

Bird and blend is really nice. I got my husband the advent calendar a few years ago and he loved it but some unusual flavours so might not suit your husband. I’m not a massive herbal tea fan but I do really like all of the bird and blend I’ve tried.

Their breakfast tea is really good though, because he liked it so much from the calendar, my husband has one for his first cup of the day every day.

Elpheba · 14/11/2024 15:01

@Oreyt luckily they’re not siblings and they don’t both spend Christmas Day with us- so will open separately! Otherwise you’re right- recipe for a Christmas Day tantrum!

I've literally just placed an order with them for digestive biscuit tea and a black tea gift box thankyou :)

Does anyone have any recommendations for books on the Harper Collins website? I've already bought dd1 some manga so would like to get some books for dd2. She's 12, and will read pretty much any genre as long as theres LGBT characters in it and the book isn't too thick.

She's obsessed with the heartstopper books. I got her quite a few other books with LGBT characters for her birthday from charity shops but she's finished them all now so looking for more and don't have time to scour charity shops! Although not sure I will top the lesbian flag wrapping paper on a box saying DD2's LGBTQ+ library! She declared it her favourite and best present!

Has she read the Heartstopper novella Nick and Charlie? DD is similarly obsessed and also aged 12.

I've also bought DD the Heartstopper diary and calendar this year.

Heres the novella range from Alice Osman

@hugsandpugs - and is that candle the one on the site called a small tumbler? Or is that a larger size? Do you know the name of the size? There's one called a large tumbler. Sorry for all the questions.

SootspriteSearcher · 14/11/2024 15:33

RainbowZebraWarrior · 14/11/2024 15:19

Thank you! Yep she has read all the novels aswell! She's even got both editions of all the books due to extra content/artwork! I've got her the calendar and diary too. She has a hoodie, stickers, bag, pin badges from aliexpress/temu!

The other books she has read multiple times and are also graphic novels are the girl from the sea and mooncakes. Incase you wanted some inspiration for new books! I've also got her Bloom for Christmas as she saw it in forbidden planet and added to her list!

@AnotherBreakfast

Thank you for the HarperCollins offer - I just saved over £70 (not all Christmas gifts a book or two may have fallen into the cart just for me)

Has anyone seen and ‘hotties’ (I think that what they are called) on offer? The ones you pop in the microwave? Saw some at a local garden centre but they were £20 each.

Just bought this lovely throw from Debenhams, would make a lovely gift (but it’s for myself), they have a few on offer.

Yes! I got these 'Warmies' for my DC in Tesco. I thought they were a bargain at £10 each, but they were £7.50 when they came up in my favourites the other day 🫠

Strangely, Amazon have just delivered the bargain subscribe-and-save Green and Blacks and Lindor chocolates that they told me were cancelled. They don’t seem to have charged me either!
