Thread 10 - the one with a rubber dick each

1000 replies

Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Just to echo @Silverstag I asked our dentist about Hismile this week and she said she doesn’t recommend it, so we’ve decided to avoid it for our mint hating DS!

That seems odd. It has 1100 ppm (the same as e.g. Colgate). Did she give any reason?

I think they also used to do a non-fluoride one, so could it have been confused with that?

Wholetthedogsoutwhowhowho · 09/11/2024 19:12

Not Christmas related at all, but for those who don't like mint toothpaste, give Oranurse a try. Sons special needs dentist put us onto it, it's non flavoured and non foaming. Can be used by adults and children. I have it on an Amazon subscription.

Silverstag · 09/11/2024 19:24

@BusterGroove most Colgate toothpastes contain 1450ppm fluoride unless it's for children. Anyone over age of 3 should have a minimum of 1350ppm

Has anyone seen a decent discount code for Fat Face? I have a few things I want to get for my daughter, but it's quite expensive.

I also asked my dentist about it yesterday and he's horrified at the trend. Especially the 'tooth gloss' There's no need for it.

Sorry to piss on anyones parade and I'm sure I went through some weird trends as a teenager, but I really worry about TikTok influences. These flavours are just teaching kids to seek out and normalise sweet, artificial flavours. Same with the lip glosses that sound exactly like vape flavours.

For what it's worth, both myself and DD are Autistic and gag at some of the minty toothpastes too.

Webbb · 09/11/2024 20:15

Having an autistic teen, I'd much rather he was brushing his teeth with HiSmile than not at all (which was the previous state). Some fluoride better than none.

piggychicken · 09/11/2024 20:17

Another one looking for any discount for Fatface if anyone knows of anything? :)

Does anyone know how to get some discount from halfords ? Need to buy a very expensive bike for christmas for DS. Black Friday? Is it certain items or over all store discount ?

British Cycling membership used to give 10% discount at Halfords but not sure if they still do.
Have you considered buying it on the cycle to work scheme if your/partner's company is signed up for it?

Thank you for the Papier code on the referral thread.

I bought my mum some note cards and one of the previously recommended rollerball pens. Gorgeous ones with peacocks on if anyone's interested.
I have hopefully also put my own code on the referral thread.
