Thread 10 - the one with a rubber dick each

Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@hugsandpugs Different retailers have different timescales for confirming purchases, I've only used Boots to get £25 off so only know what happens with Boots.

Aww ok, wish I’d thought about boots yesterday when I bought from them 😂🙈

Amazon have recently delivered items not in packaging. Do I have to say it's a gift for it to be boxed so not to give away what the item is?

Yes! This is a timely reminder actually thank you. We had a ruined Instax (luckily for an older teen) and Lego last year.

Those of you who got the Oanie slippers ... do yours squeak?!!! Mine are harmonising with my creaky knees Grin

Yes @tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz ! But only the left one! Still love them though.

Chocolate oranges are down to 95p in Tesco, cheapest I've seen all year. (Plain flavour only. Other flavours are conveniently placed next to them full price, though 🙃)

Orange ones £1 in Morrison’s with a more card.

Babynumberthreeee · 13/11/2024 09:24

Got a bottle opener from cuisinart and the ice bottle cooler from lakeland. Thanks for the suggestions, tricky mother sorted!

It's Rakuten, new sign ups get an additional cashback of £25.00 on their purchases (once per person). It tracks within an hour and shows as confirmed within a few hours. Then it gets scheduled for payout into your bank the 15th of the following month.

I already used mine on the other beauty box they released last week, so I can't use it again, otherwise I woul dbe buying this one too!

Thank you! I have only come across Rakuten as an annoying tV channel that I get stuck on by mistake because I can't figure out all our remote controls. Do I need to download an app ?

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 13/11/2024 09:30

@ZIGGY911

Usually if you scroll down your checkout page it says something like this item is often shipped in the manufacturers packaging. You need to then make sure you select to ship in Amazon wrapping. Selecting it is a gift has no bearing on how it is packaged (unless you pay for gift wrap I guess) you need to scroll down every order before you checkout to select the amazon packaging.

I've just tried to replicate the message by adding random stuff to my basket so I can screengrab what I mean but not found something that says it yet

psuedocream3 · 13/11/2024 09:31

@friskybivalves yes I know the channel you mean, I sent you a private message. If you click the link, it takes you to their cashback website. It's as simple as then signing up on the website, and just clicking the retailer button and carring on with your purchase as normal.

Does anybody have any recommendations for kids gloves that actually work. My 10yo is quite petite & feels the cold. Sent her off with a fleece base layer on today!

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 13/11/2024 09:34

@psuedocream3 Please would you pm me a Rakuten referral. TIA.

@friskybivalves @psuedocream3 for the Rakuten offer, you need to earn at least £5 of cash back via the Rakuten site to get the £25 bonus. Both the cashback and bonus will show as "pending" in your account until the minimum of £5 cashback is confirmed by the retailer(s), which can take months as the period for potential returns and refunds has to elapse. Once you have at least £5 cashback confirmed you'll get a payout that month, including the bonus. So it's a waiting game unfortunately!

psuedocream3 · 13/11/2024 09:43

@Dropthepilots That's not correct, the terms state, spend a minimum of £30 (excluding VAT & postage, so £37.50) at any of the Rakuten partner brands within 90 days of signing up to the website. Once your purchase is confirmed your £25 bonus will be available in your Rakuten account. Cashback is paid out automatically to your linked PayPal or bank account on the 15th of every month when you have a minimum confirmed balance of £5.01. The £25.00 bonus cashback IS included as part of your confirmed balance so you don't need to do any other shops through them to cashout once it's confirmed.

If you are making a purchase anyway, as I'm sure we all are at this time of year, it's a click of a button extra than you would have done, and £25 coming back to you. It's helped me so I hope it helps others.

Dropthepilots · 13/11/2024 09:48

@psuedocream3 sorry don't want to derail, but in my Rakuten account the £25 bonus is pending along with my cashback amounts, not confirmed. So I'll have to wait until at least £5 confirmed for a payout. It's still a good offer though, and I've only purchased stuff I would have bought anyway. I just wouldn't want people to think that the bonus is available quickly!

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 13/11/2024 09:49

When I tried to buy the beauty box through Rakuten, my bank payment was declined. Very odd, and no idea why.

I’ve decided we need some matching pyjamas 😂 I think I’ve seen conversations on this before. Is studio a good place to get them from? Don’t want to spend too much

Currently £9 for this Japanese snack box - admittedly I don’t know the going rate

Thank you for this! I got DD a Snackverse subscription for her birthday, but have cancelled it as it's a massive scam (I actually had a complaint to the Advertising Standards Agency upheld against them for false advertising).

I've promised instead to make her a box of different world snacks myself for her each month, so this is brilliant, cheaper than Snackverse and is a country she'll be delighted to try.

Lynx tin with a tenner wrapped around it? That would go down well!!

Love this!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/11/2024 10:08

@Georgieporgie29 ahhh I think you'll love them! They are very warm and I find that on my slightly bigger foot (apparently most people have this) they feel a little loose with thin socks but I am very happy with them for the money as the fabrics are great.

But yes - I've always had fairly tuneful knees ... I'm sure they are duetting with my slippers 😊

Hopefully yours will be musical too!
