Thread 10 - the one with a rubber dick each

1000 replies

Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

i think I ordered a football kit from here but can’t find any email confirmation. Does anyone have details as to the email address come formation would have come from? Or what it would show up as on my internet banking? I’m questioning whether I ever actually put the order through now!

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 13/11/2024 10:35

Does anyone know if giftcards track with Rakuten cash back (as in paying for purchases with a giftcard?) DH gets money off giftcards via his work rewards so we often buy a card (saving 2-7% usually) to make the purchase. I know it's a bit greedy!

What was wrong with Snackverse? I was considering a subscription!

What was wrong with Snackverse? I was considering a subscription!

Firstly they (used to) advertise 25% off subscriptions but actually it was only off their first box.

Secondly they pretend "last month's box" was eg Australia or Japan but they only ever send out boxes from Europe. They send out a few international boxes to influencers on TikTok but no subscribers ever get them. We had a subscription for 4 months and got Spain, Czech, Hungary and Turkey. Their website said that those months were Australia, America etc

My confirmation came from Soccer03 but I've looked on my banking and can't actually find the transaction, I may have paid via PayPal so cannot see it as clearly.

@whoknows1230 if you have a nectar card they have lynx spray and shower gel sets half price for £4 at Sainsburys at least for the next week. I think it’s a perfectly acceptable present, (like any other toiletries at Christmas) and in my experience 20 somethings still wear it, so unless you know for sure they’ve gone off it I’d say it’s a safe bet!

Beingacatbed · 13/11/2024 10:54

Just coming to recommend the boots £55 beauty box. Mine arrived today and it got loads of stuff in that i am going to split between my dd’s (and few bots for myself) including full size sol de janerio body spray, bubble face moisturiser, small bum bum cream, lip stain, lip oil all from popular brands.

FireandBrimstone · 13/11/2024 10:56

Not a Snackverse infiltrator... but just to say I gifted Snackverse subscriptions to two teenagers last year and they were voted by both the top Christmas present they received. I'm even thinking of repeating them this year.
I think to declare them a scam is a bit extreme. In my case I doubt that the recipients were the slightest bit bothered or even noticed whether the boxes were from European or other countries in the 3-6 month periods of their subscriptions. They still had huge novelty value every month. And from memory I didn't have an issue with the pricing structure or the fact that only the first box was discounted, the information was on the site at purchase.
By comparison I also gifted YummyBox to other Teens and it was way more hit and miss, with random contents that nobody wanted.

@hby9628 my daughter uses mountain warehouse ski gloves, only thing that works for her. They do plain colours and also lovely pattern options.

I need Wax Melt advice. Id really like to get some that are Xmassy themed but the main thing is some that actually smell of something! Any recommendations?

Does anybody have any recommendations for kids gloves that actually work. My 10yo is quite petite & feels the cold. Sent her off with a fleece base layer on today!

"Kids Snow Mittens | Mountain Warehouse GB

From my time living in Montreal I recommend mittens. Something like this.

If these ones still don't cut it I would try a Swedish brand like Villervalla. Pricey but very warm.

winter glove VERBIER | Children's accessories ✩ Villervalla®

25% off at Wonderbly with the code BLACKFRIDAY. Still expensive especially due to £4.99 delivery but I do think they are special gift. I have bought a shared book for family friends and then will buy a selection box each to go with it.

BoilingHotand50something · 13/11/2024 11:23

For wax melts, I got some melts from this company that smell like La Vie Et Belle. They are absolutely gorgeous and so long lasting. I have used the same cubes many times before replacing. They have some Christmas scents by the look of it.

Valentte do some and while I've not tried them I do love their candles and diffusers.

They use organic soy wax so I find less headache-y and the scents smell lovely (not synthetic) and candles last ages.

Keep an eye out for offers though as I think around BF last year there were lots that stacked.

Oh and a small uk owned and run business too Smile

I always purchase from earthly delights on etsy. They give a % of each months profits to charity too! The lush snow fairy dupe is my fave

Theraffarian · 13/11/2024 11:41

In regards to the question about Amazon not sending purchases in packaging , they have a new recent policy that they intend to massively reduce how many boxes etc they send . You can request it ships in packaging still , I would have actually thought that saying it’s a gift would also work , as you then pop in a message that they print on a separate slip and put inside the package , but will admit I haven’t tried since they changed their policy about a week ago .

The email they sent very accurately in my case said something about only cats enjoying the Amazon boxes , which is so true in our house .
