Thread 10 - the one with a rubber dick each

Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Can anyone recommend a good advent calendar (not chocolate) for my 17yr old daughter, got her little brother the match attax one and don’t want her to be left out! Budget £30ish. Thanks!

rhubarbhandsoap · 10/11/2024 19:45

@JackiePaper I got my DD17 the Revolution face mask one, last year a jewellery one and the year before a Christmas candle (tea light) one - if any of those ideas are helpful! 🥰🎄

Noticed couple of decent little gifts in Home Bargains today, for a sporty type a Science in Sport taster pack with a water bottle containing samples of energy gels £9.99.

For stocking fillers they had key chain 2 pack mini versions of games including Monopoly £1.99

Having ignored all of the Regatta discounts, I now need a jacket and a giltet from there. They are reduced in their Black Friday “members only” pre-access, and I found a 15% off, but I’m conscious there are often codes for big discounts (eg 40%) knocking around at times. Do you think I should wait?

LostMyRubySlippers · 10/11/2024 20:02

Saw this on hot uk deals- if you download the elf cosmetics app & sign up there are rewards you can add to your basket for free delivery & £10 off £15 spend

Laney79 · 10/11/2024 20:06

Any smyths vouchers around? Several things my son wants for Xmas and birthday from there!

User170451 · 10/11/2024 20:09

Does anyone know if Nintendo switches are ever reduced? Theres some deals on bundles at the minute but non on the console and game combo I’m after. Im looking at signing up to a very account to get 20% off but I’d be wounded if I missed a later deal.

I used to work in an Outdoors store. Both Regatta and all of the other outdoors stores have major discounts during Black Friday. Both Regatta and other outdoor stores have ebay shops, so have a look on ebay to compare prices.

Can anyone help me with ideas for an 11 year old boy. I'm doing my DDS gift baskets with face masks, bathbombs ect but struggling for ideas for DSS. He likes football and PlayStation but just isn't really bothered with stuff

I've rarely seen them reduced, same with the games. I'd wait for black friday/cyber Monday to see what reductions there are. The switch 2 is scheduled for 2025 currently, so you might be able to get some very good BF deals.

I picked up the gabbys dollhouse £5 ukulele from argos. The description says that it's 13cm, but it's definitely not - its about normal ukulele size or a bit smaller.

I have a request - I'm looking for a portable projector for someone that travels a lot with work. It doesn't have to be amazing quality/brand, but does need to be as small as possible and connect to a phone (cable or wireless). Does such a thing exist and has anyone seen any good deals?

OhMyGiddyAunt · 10/11/2024 20:37

I seem to remember reading something on one of these Xmas threads about bubble tea .... B&M have a single serving Bubble Tea kit for £2.30 which is perfect as a stocking filler. There were 3 flavours available in our local branch.

They also had ones that came with a plastic cup for about £4

Did anyone else buy the Cusinart cordless mini chopper? I got one for family secret Santa but now reading some reviews which say some don't work. Can't test as sent to it to house where we are spending Christmas. Interested to hear other people's experience of them.

I bought one (for myself, fully influenced by the thread) and it's great. It needs to be fully charged (all three blue lights solidly lit) to work x

Has anyone seen any Argos discount codes? I’ve got £105 ready to check out and would love a sneaky discount 😅
