Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I think the ikea deals must be store dependent.

The large sharks in Southampton were reduced to £15 and the smaller ones £5. But they had pandas reduced to £3 and rats for £1.50.

And for any horror loving kids! Asda had all their Halloween stuff half price, I got dd1 a creepy doll on a trike who moves and says come play with me for £7.50, treehouse of horror advent for £18, and animal skeletons for £4 plus some masks and little bats etc. Now to find a vintage furby and she is done!!

I've been ignoring all the sol de jenero chat but dd2 has mentioned liking the smell of the body spray. Was there a dupe of these somewhere? Or any recommendations for cheap nice perfumes/body sprays. She is very liberal when spraying so nothing too strong or I will also need a bargain gas mask to walk past her room!

And another bargain any Olivia Rodriguez fans there is a jumper in the kids section of primark for £10. Dd2 was very excited and bought with her birthday money! Decent quality too.

For Sol de Janeiro, there is an offer for the set of sprays for approx £22 - can’t recall if it was Look fantastic or Cult beauty but a quick search should find them.
In terms of dupes, Home Bargains do the sprays and creams. They also do dupes of lots of other things as well so worth a look

Finally managed to get the Furby for my daughter. www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/fashion-and-dolls/interactive-pets/furby-purple-interactive-toy/p/222590

Also used the BOGO code on Claire's and got two furblets to go with it.

What is the Claire's code please?

Anyone looking for CK one EDT (200mls) Amazon and Superdrug have it for £28 (RRP £74 and roughly the same price as 100mls at the moment)

Question for Dior Lip Oil fans, is it really worth the money? DD has the ELF dupe already and I can't decide if it's worth it.. Thanks you!

I like the Dior lip oil, I’m not normally a lip gloss fan but this feels lovely. I don’t think I’d buy it my teens unless they desperately wanted it and it was one of their main presents, they’d have to have asked a few times so I knew they really wanted one.

caffeineanddryshampoo · 10/11/2024 15:15

I bought a single serving bubble tea kit in Tesco but they also have larger boxes. They do milk or fruit and it comes with a straw (presumably paper)

Carolwithane · 10/11/2024 15:27

Have checked back previous threads but can't find the kids metal defector that was recommended. Might have been last year 🤔 Can anyone remember it please

Oreyt · 10/11/2024 15:29

Not a bargain (well not expensive either).

I got this LED candle from Marks and Spencers. Dd12 has a few and they have LED's that light up once the candle is lit.

This is the London version but I'll have it displayed so you can't see Big Ben and the London Eye. I like the little houses.

I bought the glitter ones for DD12 and DD14.

Hi,

I know lock picking kits were popular on here last year. Can anyone recommend a good but bargainous one?

Thanks

Freakingflies · 10/11/2024 16:01

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get the falke slipper socks any cheaper? It’s pretty much the only things my DH has asked for, but I just don’t know if I can bring myself to spend £45 on socks!

Sainsbury's currently have their 25% off 6 or more bottles of wine offer on.

Does anyone know how often they do this? Want to take advantage but would rather wait until pay day.

Is there any way of getting money off regular toys at Smyths (non-Lego or baby which seem to be the offers I can find…..)???

They seem to be doing it every few weeks at the moment.🎄

@Scout2016 The John Lewis sewing machines are brilliant. I got one as a complete beginner and it's done me so well. A few YouTube videos and I was away and now much more advanced and it's still great. 100% recommend. And they're cute!

This is good to know as it’s on the list this year

Is the Beer52 thing hard to cancel? Debating availing of the 3 bottle offer but would rather not have to deal with a tricky cancellation process. Have found laithwaites to be quite difficult to break up with in the past. Kept calling me from different numbers 🤣

You do have to speak to them to cancel, they did give me the hard sell but eventually agreed to cancel.

Any recommendations for a kids waterproof camera? I'm happy for one that comes with a waterproof case. Budget under £50.

I don't know of any specific kids cameras that are waterproof, but DS8 got this on last Christmas and spent many happy hours filming himself jumping in the pool on holiday. We also bought a float attachment for it and too it snorkelling. The picture and video quality are good but the cameraman skill are not!
