Ocado Christmas delivery

Hi

Have any of you had your Ocado Christmas delivery yet? Did you find out earlier than usual if anything was out of stock/being subbed?

Stupidly booked the 12-1pm slot on Christmas Eve, felt so cocky about it and now feeling like I'm going to have a frantic race around the supermarket getting the failed bits...

God yes where the fuck is the buttermilk?!

GCAcademic · 24/12/2023 09:54

They just don’t seem interested in people who actually cook and don’t get me started on the saga of the buttermilk which disappeared for 2 years.

I hadn’t noticed that buttermilk is now available again, hurrah! I’d been cross about the lack of it for ages.

It all went to shit when they ditched Waitrose for M&S, as I knew it would, for the exact reason that you note: M&S is a shop for people who don’t cook. And Brexit didn’t help (the fresh yeast which I used to buy every week was a Scandinavian product, and also disappeared).

Buttermilk is back, have just checked!

Teddleshon · 24/12/2023 10:09

Yes buttermilk is finally back but disappeared for over 2 years, reappeared and then disappeared again for 6 months despite Nigella using it in a ton of recipes.

And 100% agree about Waitrose, I’ve started to visit Waitrose in person due to Ocado being so crap and it’s reminded me as to how many products I’ve been missing.

Ooh it feels like Christmas! Oh wait….

Similar here - ordered on the day slots opened to secure a Christmas Eve slot. Very disappointed that there are a number of missing items (mainly party food). Worst substitution is a box of 9 hand made Christmas crackers for £36 instead of the 12 for £15 I ordered - I politely declined! Driver was very nice and happy though - not at all grumpy.

Verdict is in, lots of subs, most ok (apart from clotted cream instead of double), and quite a lot of unavailables. Luckily no absolute disasters!

I've had an apology and a £25 voucher from Ocado but no reason as to why everything was so poor this year. I've shopped with them for 10 years and they're usually pretty good at Christmas, but agree the general service hasn't been the same since they moved to M&S. Will definitely be doing it the old fashioned way next year!

Ton of substitutions here including no fresh cranberries for my cranberry sauce. I’m at my wit’s end with Ocado and convinced their buying decisions are made by 22 year olds. For the month leading up to stir up Sunday they had no suet or currants in stock (both ingredients in Nigella’s Christmas Pudding with whom they have a tie up). I complained and got an incredibly patronising reply about how they loved making Christmas pudding as a child with their grandma!

They stock no Trex or anything similar but carry over 50 different types of oat milk. They just don’t seem interested in people who actually cook and don’t get me started on the saga of the buttermilk which disappeared for 2 years.

Trex and crisco arr both nigh on impossible to source at the moment. I finally found some (trex)in waitrose but I’d tried five other shops before I got there

Hippyhippybake · 24/12/2023 15:24

@bigbadbarry I have had no trouble getting Trex, lard and suet at Tesco and Waitrose but no luck at Ocado. I actually recently gave up on Ocado as they seemed to lose interest in stocking so many ingredients for actual cooking. If you want vegan stuff though Ocado is definitely the place!

youhavenoidea123 · 24/12/2023 15:31

Christmas Eve slot , booked the day they opened back in sept. Turkey was in my basket from the first day.

Email at 8am, no turkey!! No mince pies, no chutney or limes and a number of party foods missing. No subs offered.

I got a call at about 8.30am, they had sourced some turkeys and it was delivered around midday.

Neither of our Tescos had any but they are particularly poor so I’m not really surprised. Thank goodness we have waitrose

FluffyFanny · 24/12/2023 15:35

Just oranges and lemons missing here. I wouldn't trust them with a turkey- always order from local butcher.

FluffyFanny · 24/12/2023 15:40

I can never understand why non-perishables are missing. They shouldn't be selling more than are available. I can understand why they sell more than the stock levels of fresh stuff as to avoid wastage when people change their orders last minute. But with things like wine, candles etc. there is no need. This wouldn't happen if you ordered from John lewis or similar sorts of shops- only supermarkets. It just seems that it's accepted that they can let customers down.

caramond · 24/12/2023 16:00

Sounds like they've had supply issues on the M&S side especially with all the missing party food people are reporting. If my local - albeit small - M&S is anything to go by, they had planned their stock badly. Way too much of some product left and many gaps on shelves already yesterday lunch time.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 24/12/2023 16:05

I was pretty lucky with our delivery this morning - only substitution was 4 J2O’s for 10 J2O’s.

I do absolutely agree that it’s gone downhill since switching to M&S though. It’s much more aimed at ready meals than ingredients. I’m quite lucky to live near a Waitrose so can pop in for bits but it is small and doesn’t have the range that Ocado used to stock. I also find Waitrose quality is better than M&S.

FlyingCherub · 24/12/2023 16:17

Ours arrived very promptly this morning, and not one sub or missing item which is very impressive. Gave the driver £10 as I was so chuffed.

The only comment I'd make is that given we went into M & S Foodhall friday night quite by chance, there's not a lot of their Christmas stuff online in comparison. I got some lovely side dishes, none of which appeared online.

EasternStandard · 24/12/2023 16:25

We had it delivered Friday night

No Clarence Court eggs otherwise all good

Jules912 · 24/12/2023 16:45

Got ours yesterday, only one missing item which was for regular meals not Christmas, we do get the meat from the butcher nut them though. I thought they'd failed to deliver the Christmas cake but when I went to tell them that realised we'd never actually ordered it!

MissHavershamReturns · 24/12/2023 16:49

Ours is here, no subs no missing items and nothing damaged. Was a bit late but otherwise all ok. Phew!

I completely agree with you. I really miss the Waitrose products. I have considered changing to Waitrose deliveries instead of ocado but the few times I've ordered from them, there have been loads of things missing and the cocked up the order for the food for my Mums wake last year spectacularly. I tend to drive to my nearest Waitrose once or twice a month to get the nice things that ocado don't sell any more.

I'm still generally very happy with the service that ocado provide and the lack of substitutions, although I do realise that some people have had a very poor experience with their Christmas orders this year. .

BCBird · 25/12/2023 11:52

I didn't get my finger out to secure my Ocsdo Christmas delivery oh well, mo big deal. There's onli me. I have noticed some of their gluten free stuff is regularly not available.

Countrylife2002 · 26/12/2023 07:13

Mine was absolutely fine, one thing subbed but no big deal, came at the start of the hour and driver very chirpy.

NewUser1111 · 27/12/2023 19:33

Did anyone find their M&S fruit was really disappointing? We have pastries and fruit for breakfast onChristmas morning but this year the grapes and raspberries were almost inedible- really poor quality
