Ocado Christmas delivery

Hi

Have any of you had your Ocado Christmas delivery yet? Did you find out earlier than usual if anything was out of stock/being subbed?

Stupidly booked the 12-1pm slot on Christmas Eve, felt so cocky about it and now feeling like I'm going to have a frantic race around the supermarket getting the failed bits...

Never again. Ours is due mid day and the receipt says we have no eggs, cream, bread, fruit or seafood. I pay a hearty spend with them each week, did this shop back when it opened and what’s the actual point or convenience?

NormaLouiseBates · 24/12/2023 07:54

None of my M&S party foods are coming, all have been substituted with not great alternatives. They've also subbed my turkey crown with one already filled with chestnut stuffing which DH hates 🙄

It does beg the question that what is the fucking point in opening the slots as early as they do (like many here, all of my subbed items have been in my trolley since the slots were first open, back in September or October, whenever it was) and then not be able to deliver on what they've promised?

bushtailadventures · 24/12/2023 07:56

Had our delivery at 7.30am, only items not available were 4 bottles of shloer (subbed one bottle with zero Tango strangely) and a multipack of twiglets. Need to pick up a couple of bits from Sainsburys later anyway so added them to the list.

GCAcademic · 24/12/2023 07:57

We've shopped with them for years and this is the worst Xmas shop yet by far. There are lots of subs, but mostly fine. But absolutely loads of missing items: the main component for tonight's dinner, tomorrow's starter, none of the party food is available, nor is most of the fresh fruit I'd ordered.

RepetitiveMotion · 24/12/2023 07:58

It does seem from this thread that the majority of earlier orders were mostly ok (21/22 Dec) but that it’s getting worse (23/24 Dec).

Some of these sound awful!

An update on my turkey sub - I called them and they have said I can keep the £75 turkey for the cost of the £37 one I ordered.

Which means at least I am not out of pocket, just a bit irritated at the additional cooking time and space in the oven that it will require.

MadeOfAllWork · 24/12/2023 08:13

Well I’ve got off fairly lightly it seems. A couple of sensible subs, missing lemon juice, easy peelers and, annoyingly vegan cauliflower cheese. But we aren’t hosting so it’s not vital any of it.

I agree though that if stuff is in the order from day one, months ago, then you expect it to be there - especially things like the turkey or a ham. The whole thing with Ocado is that it all comes from one central warehouse and you aren’t at the mercy of shoppers coming in and buying what you want.

Notonthestairs · 24/12/2023 08:18

No lemons, limes or sour cream.

Pigs in blankets & double cream substituted with sensible alternatives.

Pretty pleased with that.

dishyrishi · 24/12/2023 08:21

Can last night, zero subs or missing items - win!

user8800 · 24/12/2023 08:36

No butter or bread sauce and one of my deserts is missing

A few subs but pretty much much like for like

Bit annoyed, really

Now I've got to go out 😡

Iamnotagingerbread · 24/12/2023 08:37

Mine arrived yesterday. Wasn’t as bad as last years, but on the whole nothing too bad. Althkugh they did substitute lactose free milk for normal milk (which DD can’t drink) and cheap toilet rolls for Andrex - and tried to charge me the rip off Andres price, so those were refused. Other than that, could have abeen a lot worse!

PinkMimosa · 24/12/2023 08:54

Not Ocado but my DF has had a Tesco delivery with almost everything out of stock including the Turkey, Potatoes and Christmas Pudding!

That’s my conclusion too. We were Wednesday with hardly any subs. I was worried about use by dates but all dates after Christmas.

They’ve clearly messed up this year for those with slots right before Christmas. There is no point securing the slot in October if they can’t deliver many of the main items. The faff or running round the shops on Christmas Eve when that is exactly what you were trying to avoid.

They do pride themselves on customer service so should be getting lots of feedback. I’ve never had a rude driver so those that did should complain.

Next year I’ll do the same - a delivery around the 20th but not with majorly important items like turkey or pigs in blankets!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2023 09:05

Yesterday morning early. Arrived on time. Unwaxed lemons out of stock, fine, I still had some from last week. I'd ordered Ocado unsalted butter, out of stock, they sent President instead, 70p more expensive but I do need it so accepted it. In the great scheme of things I can cope with spending 70p more at Christmas. When I finalised the order earlier this week I got a pop up message that they no longer had any satsumas, which was horrific news, but fortunately I got some locally. Xmas Grin Everything else was fine. Trying a cockerel this year for a change. It had very good reviews and was much, much cheaper than a high welfare turkey would have been, so fingers crossed.

GCAcademic · 24/12/2023 09:08

I always buy the meat from a butchers well in advance and freeze it, and also keep a backup dessert in the freezer. The only thing I really care about is the potatoes, and thankfully they were there. I’d have a meltdown at the mere thought of Christmas without roast potatoes.

I do feel for the delivery drivers, they obviously bear the brunt of it. The one this morning practically grovelled his way up the drive in anticipation of customer dissatisfaction. A few years ago, one nearly cried with relief when I was nice to him as he’d had a run of seriously angry customers.

TeaEnthusiast · 24/12/2023 09:10

Our Ocado had quite a lot of substitutions this morning which is disappointing compared to previous years. Can’t understand why store cupboard items weren’t in stock suddenly. We prefer Waitrose mostly but have always gone for Ocado at Christmas because of previously reliable stock. Hate the way they charge more than M&S stores for same products so I’ve really gone off them this year.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2023 09:12

I forgot they couldn't deliver the six pack of soya milk but they did at least send one carton and that should see us through till after Christmas. I see the lemon issue is widepsread!

Still waiting impatiently for my receipt...

Still waiting impatiently for my receipt...

My receipt came through at 2am for an 8am delivery. And I had the ‘your order will be delivered by Glen in a Lemon van’ text only 20 minutes before the delivery time.

Have you gone into the app and viewed your order? You can often see what’s there or not before they email you the receipt.

Vermin · 24/12/2023 09:32

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g is that the packington cockerell? We’ve had them for the last 15 years or so from our local farm shop and they’re brilliant if you’re not keen on dark turkey meat. Farm shop was a victim of covid so now we’re getting it from Ocado (& other packington meat all year round).
(order on 23rd, on time, no subs and nothing missing. Ordered a lot of extras last week inc lemons to spread the risk- seems to have worked!)

familyissues12345 · 24/12/2023 09:34

@GCAcademic , yep still saying "being prepared"

OP posts:
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2023 09:44

Yes, that's the one. I do like dark turkey meat, but balked at the price this year. Good to hear a positive experience!

Teddleshon · 24/12/2023 09:44

Ton of substitutions here including no fresh cranberries for my cranberry sauce. I’m at my wit’s end with Ocado and convinced their buying decisions are made by 22 year olds. For the month leading up to stir up Sunday they had no suet or currants in stock (both ingredients in Nigella’s Christmas Pudding with whom they have a tie up). I complained and got an incredibly patronising reply about how they loved making Christmas pudding as a child with their grandma!

They stock no Trex or anything similar but carry over 50 different types of oat milk. They just don’t seem interested in people who actually cook and don’t get me started on the saga of the buttermilk which disappeared for 2 years.
