I'm trying to decide between Sunday 26th and Saturday 2nd....

We go to a Xmas tree farm and you pick the one you want and they chop it down, keep the base topped up and it lasts weeks and weeks, and since having kids I go the first weekend it opens. So it’ll be the 26th November this year. Love love Xmas, we’ll leave the outdoor decs until the following weekend…..probably 🤣

blibblibs · 29/10/2023 12:39

1st Dec, same as always. It's a Friday this year and I don't work Fridays so even better. Also have enough space for two trees this year so that's exciting.
Usually leave it up until the Sunday before DC go back to school but I have been know to still have the tree with extra lights up until February.

TeenDivided · 29/10/2023 12:43

Normally goes up on the last day of term.
But DD is now out of formal education, so not sure, not too early, ~18th I guess.

ReturnOfTheRainMac · 29/10/2023 13:24

My parents always put it up around mid December and no lights on the tree which felt like sacrilege. As soon as I got my own house, first weekend of December without fail. Since having my own DC it became first day of December and then after Covid, I have no problems with mid November. I bloody love the magic of it and if I can have that for longer then fabulous! Life's too short not to have a little magic and sparkle. I also cleared out the garage this week and found 3 x 200 fairy lights and 1 x 400. Hoping to look better than Blackpool illuminations. Can't wait!

Not until December. I cannot understand the people who put it up so early in Nov and then are bored and want it down on Boxing Day!

emmetgirl · 29/10/2023 13:28

Never. Don't do Christmas

Same. Seems silly! DP always says "let's take it down now" a few days after Christmas Day. I usually take it down quite slowly from NYE so it's up until the 12th night but not a rush to get it all away.

VillageLite · 29/10/2023 13:37

I’ll buy it on the 10th to make sure I have plenty of choice, but I like to put it up quite close to Christmas, around 20th December, and put all the presents underneath at the same time.
It seems more exciting to me when there’s just a few days until Christmas and most of the preparation is done, and a tree with no presents underneath seems a bit sad.

December

We don’t put it early - mid December works best for us but it is always cleared away on 30/31 December. Christmas is over then and I like a clean and tidy house for the new year.

Snowpatrolling · 29/10/2023 14:08

Currently resisting the urge to put it up now! The year I got divorced it went up on the 26th October to cheer us up! Not that early this year tho.
I’ve got a new house after living in a grungy flat for 10 years so I’m super excited to get it up!!

Hibernatalie · 29/10/2023 14:24

@Snowpatrolling I know what you mean! After Halloween I'm in Christmas mode. 3rd makes sense for us but I never go later than the 1st. If Lidl have some nice ones in stock the weekend before we will probably cave then.

Mine will go up on Christmas Eve, and will be taken down on Epiphany, 6th January.

Baneofmyexistence · 29/10/2023 14:39

We always have our twins birthday first at the end of November then Christmas can start! Their party is the 2nd December so the tree will go up the 9th!

CornishGem1975 · 29/10/2023 14:44

Around 10th December-ish usually.

vernatheraven · 29/10/2023 14:47

1st December as I am in annual leave.

We take it down in New Year's Eve.

I like it up all December but like going into the new year all tidy and fresh

BringMeSunshines · 29/10/2023 14:48

Big family birthday beginning of Dec so dont want to put tree up then so they can enjoy the birthday celebrations decs etc.

But as we live overseas I have bought a artificial tree for this year (I cannot buy any here, well nothing even half descent) as we will not be going away, so prob put up aroun15th ish, have lugged lights, decorations, ribbon even the fairy for the top from the UK...I must be mad!

ChristmasIsComing2023 · 29/10/2023 14:49

Probably the 1st of December. It’s only a small one that fits on top of the toy storage kallax though 🤷‍♀️

Smurfmurf · 29/10/2023 14:52

1st December down 27th.

Holly2285 · 29/10/2023 14:53

First weekend of December usually

PinkTonic · 29/10/2023 14:54

We will go out and choose ours on 16th of December, leave in a bucket outside and put it up on 23rd. It will come down on 6th January. I can’t relate to wanting a Christmas tree up for 2 months. Fairy lights in the trees outside will go on the weekend we pick up the tree.

Lndnmummy · 29/10/2023 14:55

First Sunday of advent. Always

CraftyGin · 29/10/2023 14:56

Couple of days before Christmas.

zurala · 29/10/2023 15:14

About the 20th or whatever the nearest weekend is. I don't like it up too early or I get bored and use up all my festive spirit too soon!

OldTinHat · 29/10/2023 15:16

Scrooge McScrooge here! I spend Christmas on my own two out of three years. Next year will be family here again, so I'll put the tree up just before they arrive. I don't bother when I'm on my own.
