Those people that go early - don’t you get utterly sick of the tree by the actual festive period?

We have real trees and greenery so they’d be beyond tragic by Christmas if we go too early. Plus, I just don’t feel festive before mid December.

I actually feel sad taking the tree down every year. I just love the Christmas period. Don't get sick of it at all. Also always get a fresh tree and it lasts weeks in water.

Never!!! I feel a little festive already 🎄

@Openmouthinsertfood - you could have done all the present wrapping etc without actually putting the tree up surely?

Purplerain0505 · 30/10/2023 08:17

A few years ago we did first weekend of Dec but I was so bored of it by Christmas Day. So we usually go for mid-Dec instead. I’m always amazed that anyone goes for November!

This year we’ll probably do 9th/10th as we’re away at Christmas. For that reason we’ll probably just get a small tree as well.

Only to put them in the recess and take them out again to put the tree there, decorate it, then put them back?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/10/2023 11:17

Usually about mid December, but possibly a bit earlier if we have guests coming. It’s always a real one that stays up until 6th Jan, so can’t put it up too early.

Peridot1 · 30/10/2023 15:08

@Openmouthinsertfood - well obviously I don’t know the exact layout of your room etc and how many presents but it would seem to make sense to me rather than putting the tree up in October. But it’s up to you obviously! No biggie.

Lovemusic82 · 30/10/2023 17:14

Probably a week or two before Christmas. My dc are older teens now so it’s not such a big thing. We have a real tree that lives outside all year and we bring it in for Christmas (in a pot), we don’t have a huge amount of space so I don’t really want it in here for a whole month.

housethatbuiltme · 30/10/2023 17:22

Traditionally it should be from the start of advent (4 Sundays of before Christmas - that includes Christmas day this year) until the end of epiphany (12 days after).

That makes it December 3rd until January 6th this year.

Weefreetiffany · 30/10/2023 17:34

Weekend before Christmas until day after epiphany. We get a real tree and any longer than that and you’re at risk of mould and bugs (maybe humbugs?) lots of other decorations put up from st Nicholas day though Like in the windows and the mantelpiece. November is way too early for decs but perfect for lights and candles.

Nonplusultra · 30/10/2023 18:04

When my dc were smaller, I used to hold out for the first weekend in December. They’re teens now and I’m hoping we might manage push it on a week or two, so maybe the 16th?

StarDolphins · 30/10/2023 18:10

Always up
last weekend in Nov & taken down Boxing Day.

DogInATent · 30/10/2023 18:11

Looking at how the days fall this year, either the 16th or 23rd of December.
Traditionally it shouldn't go up until 24th, but we rarely hold out that long.

duchiebun · 30/10/2023 18:11

Normally 2nd wk in Dec & they come down in Jan.

This is what I like - reading of everyone else’s traditions. We’re usually 16 until 31 December although depends on whether we’re at home or away.

duchiebun · 30/10/2023 18:13

I love the time after xmas day & would find it strange to have no tree to celebrate NY, also the tree collections by the council aren’t until January anyway

No worries. Xmas Smile

I'm the same this year 😂

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 30/10/2023 18:50

First weekend in December. Possibly not down until the end of Jan. I love Christmas decorations and the lights really seem to help me with my SAD.
