I hope the title makes sense.
Anyway, I came across these advent calendars that seem to fit the bill and thought I'd share in case anyone else is looking.

What absolutely gorgeous advent calendars . I will definitely be ordering

TeenDivided · 24/10/2023 15:44

I wonder if MN orders will be enough to produce a spike and they wonder why. Grin

YuletideSolace · 24/10/2023 15:45

I was thinking that!

Some of these are lovely. Love the house ones.

Rhythmisadancer · 24/10/2023 16:31

ooh these are so lovely - over the years I have started wasting a ton of ££ on increasingly expensive choc ones for the kids, then different food things and the last few years a beer one for DH, now I can have a lovely one for myself 😊

Closet & Botts have some lovely ones.

These do look lovely.
I just wish they'd show a couple of the illustrations behind the doors so you'd know you were buying (what I now know to be) continuity calendars.

I've been fooled before and bought a beautiful picture calendar only to open first window to find a random Christmas pudding 😫

I have found advent calendars the last few years so depressing, just a picture of some chocolate and nothing else.

Ack I hate that.

Here is Little Town by Richard Selmer - the scenes behind the doors are translucent so if you put it in front of a window or light, it looks like the rooms are lit within.

Thank you for this thread! I've bumped not it by accident but remember these sorts of calendar from my childhood - brought out year after year. Grandma had a lovely nativity scene where the characters, animals and star were added in as the month progressed.

JessicaFletcherMSW · 24/10/2023 19:22

I would like a little Christmas tree where you add a decoration every day of advent. A friend has one but I’ve never found them in my internet searching.

Yes, that's a photo of our previous calendar.

The Tower was another nice one from Richard Selmer - they cost about a tenner on Amazon.

I should!

I only discovered them after reading an article about how Little Town was given to Eisenhower in 1953 to try and mend fences after WW2. I love that the exact same calendar was first made in 1946.

Not traditional, but definitely a continuity advent calendar with scenes behind each window that add to the picture. The link is for the London calendar but they also do a Brighton one, and Paris and New York. I love them.
