Christmas breakfast

Starting to plan/write a list of the big food shop so I can spread the cost.
Always thought what my parents did for us growing up was what everyone did until a colleague said they have a full english xmas morning! (HOW?!)

Anyway, it got me thinking. Apart from the obligatory bucks fizz, what do you all eat for breakfast on Xmas day?
Will be 4 adults, 2 children (7years and 7 months) if that makes a difference!

Gingerbread man shaped pancakes, fresh OJ, fancy coffee.

Light lunch, dinner at 7.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/10/2023 08:51

Bagels with smoked salmon/cream cheese.

For any young Gdcs, probably Nutella pancakes. Fresh orange juice.

if I’ve bothered to make any, Delia’s Christmas dried fruit compote* for anyone who still wants their muesli (probably dh) with fruit.
*not that it’s a major faff at all.

We don’t have Buck’s Fizz until after the (usually late) breakfast.

Snugglemonkey · 02/10/2023 08:57

Scrambled egg, smoked salmon and spinach on bagels, wee prosecco and cranberry juice.

Vetoncall · 02/10/2023 23:46

Usually everything bagels with scrambled eggs and avocado although sometimes it's just chocolate and/or Pret a Manger chocolate croissants (the frozen ones, just stick them in the oven). We usually have bacon or sausage sandwiches for breakfast on Boxing Day.

Redwinestillfine · 03/10/2023 10:54

Bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon and fizzy wine

JingsMahBucket · 04/10/2023 15:14

@Vetoncall where are you getting your everything bagels? What company makes them?

jellytots18 · 04/10/2023 15:21

I have had chicken dippers and chips every Xmas morning since I was about 14 😅 it's my own little tradition. Appreciate this is prob not the inspiration you were looking for 😃

EdgeK · 04/10/2023 15:24

Crumpets soaked overnight in eggs - might put some strong grated cheddar in the mix.
Really nice bacon and some shrooms.
Bucks Fizz.
Lunch about 4

Nsky62 · 04/10/2023 16:16

Probably pastries as being treated to lunch out 🙂👍

Of all the breakfasts listed here, including my own, this is the one that appeals to me the most! 😂

I love an almond croissant and have just discovered a gluten free bakery to get some delivered for dh. No bucks fizz as we normally drive to relatives but plenty of chocolates.

Oooh, this sounds good. Where do you get the GF croissants?? Ones from the supermarket are a bit bleugh.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 05/10/2023 12:02

Growing up always a fry up, my DF was the fry up king.

Now it’s toast, crepes (pre-made) or what ever any one wants while opening, playing with presents. We then have brunch which is now pancakes with bacon, sausage, berries…basically what ever anyone wants. This is the kids choice. We don’t eat until evening so the brunch keeps us going.

WonderingWanda · 05/10/2023 23:37

@Blueeyes13 it's called ManaDew Bakery in London and you can order online for things that are bake at home.

We just have a normal breakfast, probably eggs or muesli or Greek yoghurt. It’s the one day of the year I really don’t want anything very heavy or filling and I hate bucks fizz, two nice drinks spoiled.

Sorry not a very helpful post.

Just to say I feel exactly the same about Bucks Fizz. Just why????

We don't have a proper breakfast-but a steady stream of bits-pain au chocolate/croisssants etc and coffees then we move on to sausages wrapped in bacon/smoked salmon blinis/pancetta wrapped asparagus/prawns etc
And champagne but try not to peak too early...

LookingForPurpose · 06/10/2023 09:29

My kids love my home made cinnamon rolls so I'll probably do a few versions of them. Maybe a cinnamon, a Nutella and strawberry or peppermint sauce and a maple bacon. Some fresh fruit salad. Clementine juice and champagne. Croissants. I think I've got 9 for breakfast this year so a nice variety.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 06/10/2023 09:47

We always had a full English in Xmas day and Boxing Day morning growing up

You've just given me a trip down memory lane.
When we were kids it was pigs kidney's and mushrooms, cooked in the oven overnight then crispy bacon was added to the plate with soft white bread to mop up the juice.
Ddad family were Romany gypsy, this tradition came from his family.
You'd wake up in the morning to the smell of the kidneys and mushrooms and it just smelt like "Christmas".
The actual thought of eating that now is 🤢

@itsgoingtobeabumpyride Any chance you could tell me more about eh kidneys and mushrooms thing? It must have been in a very low oven; would they have been covered? Were any flavorings added?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/10/2023 14:51

I'm working my way through fresh orange juices to find my favourites

I want Clenentine that is sharp but sweet
Orange that tastes like freshly squeeezed from the orange .

So far , the Sainsbury orange Taste the Difference smooth is wiinning
Clementines juices all pretty samey .

This was the standard Sunday fry up at home in the late 70’s, early 80’s and I still shudder now at the thought of those pigs kidneys 😆

Eggs benedict with smoked salmon and home made hollandaise sauce, with bucks fizz. (Two adults, one 20 year old, so technically an adult I guess(!) and an 18 year old, but had been the breakfast menu since they were three, and would be a small riot if we tried to change it!
