Christmas breakfast

Hungryfrogs23 · 10/09/2023 15:48

Starting to plan/write a list of the big food shop so I can spread the cost.
Always thought what my parents did for us growing up was what everyone did until a colleague said they have a full english xmas morning! (HOW?!)

Anyway, it got me thinking. Apart from the obligatory bucks fizz, what do you all eat for breakfast on Xmas day?
Will be 4 adults, 2 children (7years and 7 months) if that makes a difference!

Oh wow! I can't believe how many people have smoked salmon and alcohol. I've never had a drink on Christmas morning - this is probably one of the very rare occasions when I'm drinking less than the average person.

I usually make french toast panettone and serve it up with berries, natural yogurt, cinnamon and some mashed avocado on the side. Reading that back now it looks really odd but it tastes great.

mondaytosunday · 29/09/2023 22:03

French toast with bacon. We don't have Christmas dinner til about 4.30.

Mindovermatter247 · 29/09/2023 22:37

Bacon sandwiches/ rolls and chocolate 🤪 quick and easy and enough to get you until Christmas dinner.

LuckyNumber6 · 30/09/2023 09:31

Same! I wouldn’t be able to do anything if I had a drink with breakfast. It would have to be coco pops for Christmas dinner if I did 🤪

ThreeRingCircus · 30/09/2023 09:59

Another one that has smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels with a Bucks Fizz!

It's perfect in my opinion as it's really quick, feels special and is not too heavy. I don't want anything meaty or anything sweet for breakfast on Christmas Day as I'll be eating a mountain of meat and sweet things later on.

DDs have the bagels just with butter and chocolate from their stockings.

pinkfondu · 30/09/2023 10:22

Growing up it would be a full English due to a late lunch. Now I love pastries and Buck's Fizz. Occasionally bacon/sausage sarnies or on toast with scrambled eggs

chineapplepunks · 30/09/2023 10:28

My family it's very much a 'fend for yourself' type breakfast. DP's family is a full fry up! I personally like a small breakfast so I can save room for snacks later on!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 30/09/2023 10:31

When I was a child - chocolate and maybe cereal if anyone was really hungry

When I was a teenager - croissants, jam, honey, orange juice and champagne (sometimes as Bucks Fizz, sometimes not)

Now I am an adult - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, orange juice and champagne (never Bucks Fizz)

TeaMistress · 30/09/2023 10:52

A mug of loose leaf tea and either spiced apple porridge with a spoonful of peanut butter and topped with bananas or some toast and marmalade.

Yocal · 30/09/2023 10:54

Kedgeree

Peepshowcreepshow · 30/09/2023 11:00

Never booze for breakfast, I'd have a hangover by lunchtime, even after a glass. I'll start that when cooking. Don't usually have breakfast as I tend to eat far too many snacks pre main event. There's no chocolate in stockings here, so DD will probably have toast/crumpet.

gettingolderbutcooler · 30/09/2023 11:01

Bagels, smoked salmon and Philly
Yum

Spiced apple porridge sounds good- how do you make it?

SharonEllis · 30/09/2023 11:07

Bucks fizz definitely not obligatory. Yuk. G&T around 11 for the cook/s is though! We usually have something quite ordinary as there is enough going on later & we've had treats in the stockings. Sometimes get in croissants. Boxing day (& as long as it lasts) breakfast is brandy butter on toast.

One cup measure of apple juice and half a cup measure of porridge oats either rolled or steel cut. Sprinkle with cinnamon / clove and brown sugar. I use the pot in pot method in my instant pot. One minute on high pressure and natural pressure release. Stir in a spoonful of peanut butter. Top with sliced banana and a drizzle of blossom honey. It's a really lovely winter breakfast.

IndiKid2015 · 30/09/2023 12:53

Bacon sandwiches and Buck’s Fizz here. I’ve never heard of black velvet, it sounds nice, I might try that too.

Prinnny · 30/09/2023 12:56

Buck’s Fizz and either bacon or sausage sandwiches with an egg to dip it in! Made by DH, although one year he made me a Buck’s Fizz that was orange juice and Pinot Grigio 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 01/10/2023 01:53

Stocking chocolate is fair game anytime.

10.30am ish we have bacon sandwiches (but has to be on white sourdough) with lots of tea or coffee in our house.

opalescent · 01/10/2023 09:11

Literally just reading these threads triggers my IBS 😆😆

I can only dream of being able to eat this way all day on Christmas Day, but unfortunately my body would complain endlessly!!

HappyAsASandboy · 01/10/2023 10:12

Coffee
Buck's Fizz
Pastries
Sticking chocolate

Eaten in the lounge while the present unwrapping commences

Muststopeating · 01/10/2023 10:22

Open rare roast beef sandwiches.

Beef is roasted on Christmas Eve and left in a cool room (like conservatory) overnight.

Bread is made in bread maker on a timer overnight.

We pop through between stocking and tree presents to do the carving and serve up on platters with bucks fizz while open presents.

One of the worst things about my pregnancies was missing out on the roast beef sandwiches on Christmas morning.

Thefacethatlaunchedathousandchips · 01/10/2023 10:24

Usually something fishy here. I like kedgeree or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Dh likes bacon or sausages but I prefer to save those for dinner.

DinnaeFashYersel · 01/10/2023 10:31

We never have Buck's Fizz - it's not obligatory

We have a full Scottish breakfast on Christmas Day.

Square sausage
black pudding
Bacon
Eggs
Potato scone.

We don't eat again till Christmas dinner at about 4pm

Squirrelblanket · 01/10/2023 12:36

We have bacon with croissants and bucks fizz. Quick and easy and nice enough to feel like a treat.

CantThinkOfANewUsernameAgain · 01/10/2023 23:10

Selection of pastries easy frozen ones bung in oven.
As kids full English. Then dinner was 5pm
