Christmas breakfast

Hungryfrogs23 · 10/09/2023 15:48

Starting to plan/write a list of the big food shop so I can spread the cost.
Always thought what my parents did for us growing up was what everyone did until a colleague said they have a full english xmas morning! (HOW?!)

Anyway, it got me thinking. Apart from the obligatory bucks fizz, what do you all eat for breakfast on Xmas day?
Will be 4 adults, 2 children (7years and 7 months) if that makes a difference!

Pastries, bucks fizz, coffee and chocolate.

BackOfTheMum5net · 10/09/2023 17:49

Cadbury’s selection tray and maybe a Buck’s Fizz. Classy, I know.

SummerSazz · 10/09/2023 17:49

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Homemade Hot sausage rolls about 11 with champagne

We do have Xmas dinner on Xmas eve though

mathanxiety · 10/09/2023 17:51

We usually have dinner in the early evening, so we have a late and large breakfast consisting of bacon, sage sausage and potato hash with onions and green pepper, scrambled eggs, pink Texas grapefruit, OJ, coffee/tea, cinnamon rolls (I have a bread machine that makes dough and they rise on the counter overnight, then I pop then into the oven first thing in the morning). Anyone who feels peckish later in the afternoon can have some leftover breakfast or fruit or eat chocolate, though I also do a baked brie and there's always hummus and carrots too.

My lot are still really young so the day is hectic enough without doing a big breakfast. Usually it’s a selection box or some toast. The only people I know who do a proper breakfast on Christmas morning are my grandparents

We have hot pain au chocolate and bubbly!

KnobbingtonKnobberson · 10/09/2023 18:05

I love the frozen pastries from Waitrose too. Christmas is such a meat feast that the last thing I want (or can be bothered to prepare) is a cooked breakfast.

motherofawhirlwind · 10/09/2023 18:06

Pastries and Bucks Fizz in this house!

evtheria · 10/09/2023 18:06

Bucks Fizz, first thing.

bryceQ · 10/09/2023 18:10

A croissant with bacon and brie is my favourite

ShyCity · 10/09/2023 18:12

Only me, DH and two teens for breakfast. We’ve always said everyone can have exactly what they want on Christmas morning and DH will make it (I make dinner).

Last year, I had croissants & coffee, DH had scrambled eggs & smoked salmon & champagne, kids had cream cheese & smoked salmon bagels. We’ve had pancakes, waffles, bacon sarnies, ackee & salt fish & dumplings (DH is Jamaican) in previous years.

geminiflanagan · 10/09/2023 18:19

Last year we bought the Bonne Maman jam calendar. We had oven baked baguette, with naice butter and the lovely jams. Bucks fizz for us, apple juice for dd. It was lovely and easy!

Nigella muffins out of her Xmas book

I worked for the company that makes that last winter as a temp. Got given one when the contract ended. Those jams were lovely.

I'm in Scotland and I love to get the savoury slice sausages with mothers pride bread. Bloody delicious!

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 10/09/2023 18:30

I have smoked salmon on bagels with a virgin Buck’s Fizz which is sparkling wine on its own.

Candlesonthetable · 10/09/2023 18:37

Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and crumpets here with bucks fizz for those of us who don't need to take the Christmas services (poor DH). But we also have a chocolate Christmas tree made from ready rolled puff pastry and Nutella. At first this was just for the DC and was one sheet of pastry cut in half, but now we do two as everyone likes to tuck in!

Favouritefruits · 10/09/2023 18:56

We have a massive wedge of panettone each for breakfast, easy, simple and no fuss!

Ooh, yeah, I could be persuaded to trade a bacon buttie in for this.

My parents were from Guyana in South America. We continue their tradition of Garlic Pork on Christmas morning.Guyanese Garlic Pork

Well I was going to say smoked salmon blinis but this looks so good, I may have to change this year!

Hungryfrogs23 · 10/09/2023 19:06

Oh my goodness so many amazing ideas here!

@KnobbingtonKnobberson I felt the same about it being a meat fest so didn't fancy anything meaty for breakfast.

@geminiflanagan that sounds amazing. I love fresh bread and butter/jam. Mmmmm.

Loads of you have mentioned the Nigella muffins so I may have to give them a try this year. Especially as I could make them the day before and just warm up on the morning. We normally do pastries and bucks fizz for this reason- a treat but with minimal faff factor.

No idea what (if anything) the 7 month old will be eating by then.
