Christmas breakfast

Starting to plan/write a list of the big food shop so I can spread the cost.
Always thought what my parents did for us growing up was what everyone did until a colleague said they have a full english xmas morning! (HOW?!)

Anyway, it got me thinking. Apart from the obligatory bucks fizz, what do you all eat for breakfast on Xmas day?
Will be 4 adults, 2 children (7years and 7 months) if that makes a difference!

Before DC we always used to do scrambled eggs and smoked salmon but with two excited little ones I can’t think of anything worse than missing out on the fun by standing at the hob cooking eggs.

Will probably do cold continental breakfast that everyone can just pick at and Buck’s Fizz of course!

I'm not doing more cooking...they can eat a selection box for breakfast.

Exactly this 👏

Maddy70 · 10/09/2023 16:39

I live in a warm country and the. Shops are open on Christmas day. So our day starts with a walk down to the beach past the bakery and our day starts with fresh croissants and pan au chocolate , we join our friends on the beach and we have breakfast together

TheChosenTwo · 10/09/2023 16:41

Last year dd made croissants and pain au chocolat, the process took a few days as she did the pastry herself and they were amazing, the lamination was incredible! Hoping she’ll do the same this year because I have been thinking about them again recently 😂

EquallyDetermined · 10/09/2023 16:41

Bucks Fizz, homemade cinnamon buns (made the night before, baked in the morning), croissants and pains au chocolat, the ones you bake from frozen. No bacon, eggs or similar.

HAF1119 · 10/09/2023 16:42

We have a fry up I'm afraid, I'm not actually that bothered about Christmas dinner and just have a basic chicken roast but I love a fry up!

Whichwhatnow · 10/09/2023 16:44

Generally bacon sandwiches but sometimes those frozen croissants or pain au chocolate that you just bung in the oven. Nice and easy and not too heavy (a full English?? 😮)

Might actually go for smoked salmon and scrambled egg as mentioned by PP this year!

Vladandnikki · 10/09/2023 16:50

Pancakes and berries or bacon and maple syrup.
Or bagels with cream cheese, scrambled egg and smoked salmon or bacon
And prosecco 🥂

MumblesParty · 10/09/2023 16:51

Chocolate

Adviceplease2314 · 10/09/2023 16:55

Smoked salmon and Buck’s Fizz

SpamFrittersYouSay · 10/09/2023 16:56

Warmed blinis with cream cheese and smoked salmon and freshly baked croissants and ( cook from frozen) mini sausage rolls.
With lashings of Buck's Fizz. ( I only eat the sausage rolls and copious mugs of tea!)

SaltySeaCat · 10/09/2023 16:58

Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on bagels

BeeDavis · 10/09/2023 16:59

When I was younger my dad would buy the thick toastie bread and we’d literally just have slices upon slices of toast 😂😂 he’d be in the kitchen bringing it in as we opened presents! I still tend to do that now I’ve moved out and I get my little boy the Christmas crumpets.

dontforgetme · 10/09/2023 17:01

Scrambled eggs, bacon, Philadelphia bagels and croissants.

We have the same every year and we love it.

Nonplusultra · 10/09/2023 17:02

I’ve scaled back from a full fry, though it depends on our guests really (and the timing of dinner). This year I’ll probably do bacon baps with runny fried eggs.

I do bacon in the oven and the eggs just sit on the pan so it’s not a huge effort.

HamstersAreMyLife · 10/09/2023 17:11

We either have bacon rolls or I make cinnamon rolls, then the other on boxing day. I like something that feels special but doesn't involve loads of cooking so the rolls work well as I do them the night before so literally just put the oven on in the morning.

Nutsabouttopic · 10/09/2023 17:15

Seven adults/ teenagers here. Cereal, toast and ready made pop in the oven pastries with nice jams. Fruit and yougart for one DD. One DD eats a selection box. Mainly light foods ( besides selection box) because we have dinner about 3.00. St Stephen's day we have a fry

EveryOtherNameTaken · 10/09/2023 17:16

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with brown triangle toast.

Then maybe a gingerbread man afterwards

Very easy and no too filling before the gargantuan Christmas dinner in the afternoon.

Lizzieregina · 10/09/2023 17:17

We always have a big fry with Irish brown bread and Irish soda bread, but we live in the US so it’s a bit of a treat for us (have to track down proper sausages etc). However we don’t have our big Christmas dinner on Christmas Day as our big family celebration is Christmas Eve and the 25th is pretty relaxed.

7Worfs · 10/09/2023 17:22

Same as every morning - porridge with banana and raisins on top.
The opening of the presents is the main event here so no need to do an elaborate breakfast.

GymWanker · 10/09/2023 17:25

Mince pie/crumpets/toast with Buck’s Fizz until I put the turkey in and switch to plain old fizz.

Very low key as I spend the morning pottering in the kitchen and getting ready for visitors to come and have nibbles.

Astrabees · 10/09/2023 17:31

Toasted brioche, apricot jam and orange juice for us, plus some canned grapefruit. I don’t open the champagne until 12 when I serve canapés. We have usually had a bit too much chocolate from our Santa sacks to do a big breakfast justice.

honeylulu · 10/09/2023 17:34

Homemade cranberry and orange muffins (Nigella recipe) and bucks fizz.

We used to have smoked salmon and scrambled egg but concluded it was too rich and too faffy for Christmas morning so that is now our traditional Christmas Eve supper instead. Youngest says she looks forward to that meal more than Christmas Dinner!

FluffMagnet · 10/09/2023 17:36

We always do smoked salmon blinis and chocolate and nuts to snack on throughout the morning with dinner between 2-3pm. Am thinking of adding pastries to the mix this year (frozen ones ready to cook - not home made!)

VanGoghsDog · 10/09/2023 17:39

I buy frozen croissants and pain au chocolate from Waitrose and have those. There's enough else going on the rest of the day so it needs to be simple but a bit of a treat.

I don't like eggs but my sister always insists on scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

I used to have porridge made with cream and fresh blueberries, but even that seems like a faff now.
