Christmas breakfast

Starting to plan/write a list of the big food shop so I can spread the cost.
Always thought what my parents did for us growing up was what everyone did until a colleague said they have a full english xmas morning! (HOW?!)

Anyway, it got me thinking. Apart from the obligatory bucks fizz, what do you all eat for breakfast on Xmas day?
Will be 4 adults, 2 children (7years and 7 months) if that makes a difference!

Bacon sandwiches, stocking chocolate, Bucks Fizz. Easy pleased in this house.

Do you live in my house? Exactly the same here!

Some lovely ideas, we usually have a cooked English breakfast, then open gifts (our kids are adults now) then a few chocolates until we have Xmas dinner at 4pm. All cooked by DH.

Cuwins · 11/09/2023 07:41

In my family we always just had toast or cereal as normal (or sometimes just choc!). I didn't realise people had special breakfasts until going to my partners family- they always had scrambled egg and smoked salmon.
This year we will be home Xmas morning but I can't face cooked food first thing so either we will eat a bit later and have bacon sandwiches or just toast first thing. DD nearly 2 at Xmas will probably have beans on toast or sausages as they are her 2 fav things in the world!

Cuwins · 11/09/2023 07:43

But my fav meal of Xmas in my family is at lunchtime when we have cheese, cold meats and nice bread etc. So I don't want to fill up at breakfast!
We don't have our roast until dinner time- about 6ish normally.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 11/09/2023 07:50

You've just given me a trip down memory lane.
When we were kids it was pigs kidney's and mushrooms, cooked in the oven overnight then crispy bacon was added to the plate with soft white bread to mop up the juice.
Ddad family were Romany gypsy, this tradition came from his family.
You'd wake up in the morning to the smell of the kidneys and mushrooms and it just smelt like "Christmas".
The actual thought of eating that now is 🤢

My DPs always did a full Irish breakfast after early mass on Christmas morning.

But that was to keep us going while they had a drinks thing with neighbours/friends for hours then cooked the turkey which was eaten sometime between 6 and 10 pm. (Not even joking - some years, they have had DGCs have a tin of spaghetti hoops at bedtime as the dinner still wasn't ready! More than 1 DGC has had this happen, you'd think they'd learn the first time!).

In our house now, when we cook, we have a nice breakfast which is usually a full pot of proper coffee, a tin of jus-rol croissants or some frozen pastries hot out of the oven and a bowl of mixed chopped fruit (which I make the night before). We don't open alcohol that early but I know lots enjoy a Buck's Fizz at that stage.

We have some M&S party food and other nibbly bits in the early afternoon (and have usually had some pate on toast or cocktail sausages at an Aunt's house with drinks after mass).

And we aim to eat dinner around 4-5pm.

Wow, Krispy Kremes is a great idea. My kids would think they’re in heaven if they saw that! 🍩❤️

My parents were from Guyana in South America. We continue their tradition of Garlic Pork on Christmas morning.Guyanese Garlic Pork

@WestendVBroadway thanks for that recipe. I’ve saved it.

erikbloodaxe · 11/09/2023 08:44

Cornflakes. Same as the three wise men Grin

Thebigblueballoon · 11/09/2023 08:50

We don’t have an early breakfast, but around 11am will crack open the Bucks Fizz and enjoy it with smoked salmon on buttered bread, always cut into triangles.

Mustbethewine · 11/09/2023 14:18

French toast bread and butter pudding. Prep it the night before and shove in the oven christmas monring. Serve it with fresh fruit and cream. Coffee followed by bucks fizz.

BasiliskStare · 11/09/2023 14:24

Another smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and bucks fizz here . We don't have Christmas dinner until about 5 though

ILoveGroot · 11/09/2023 14:47

We usually have bacon sandwiches and either prosecco or a baileys. DS will have Christmas shaped crumpets with Nutella after all presents are open. Those Christmas Krispy Kremes look amazing!! May have to get some of those!

Do you get them on the 24? I imagine you can order them in advance?

idliketogetdownnow · 11/09/2023 19:45

I love smoked salmon and sour cream on blinis with caviar, and a glass of champagne.

DH has really expensive granola.

Generally we go early on Christmas Eve to either Tesco or a Krispy Kreme shop so we can chose one each. You can order online though

I order a delivery of a box of 12 Krispy Kremes to arrive as one of the advent calendar gifts mid December. They go down very well, I would recommend it. Although, things like this are the reason my now teens still insist on me making the advent every year, rather than buying them 🤦‍♀️

Breakfast is like many others, cinnamon rolls made the night before, pastries, fresh berries, pancakes, French toast with ladles of maple syrup etc

Wow, my kids would love these! Must definitely remember about this. Even Christmas eve/visiting family, they would be fab

BirdiePlantaganet · 12/09/2023 13:51

My husband makes eggs royale and benedict for himself and the kids. I don’t know he can be bothered with all the other cooking he has to do that day.

I don’t eat breakfast, but I will have some champagne!

Xtraincome · 13/09/2023 08:25

We go by personal preference each year but common themes are:

Coco Pops
French pastry selection
Bacon Sandwiches
Chocolate
Fizz

Broodywuz · 26/09/2023 10:50

Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels
Christmas shaped crumpets and Nutella (we only have Nutella at Christmas)
Scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon
Big Fruit platter - for all to share, left sitting out to pick on

And lot's of bucksfizz, just the cheap ready mixed £2/bottle stuff

GettingStuffed · 27/09/2023 09:14

Mince pies during present opening, a hangover from when the kids were small and had lots of relatives who have now sadly passed.
Then proper breakfast of smoked salmon,or bacon for the refuseniks, and scrambled eggs.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 27/09/2023 10:21

Bacon and/or sausage rolls with mushrooms and tomatoes.

With tea or coffee and a glass of sherry.
