So what supermarket substitutions have you had in your xmas shop? I was expecting a couple, but most were like for like...

This is the most annoying one:

Sainsbury's Milk Chocolate Yule Log, Taste the Difference 442g,
substituted with

• Sainsbury's Raspberry Sponge Roll, Taste the Difference 268g

SIL had her christmas cards substituted for christmas biscuits! I also saw someone on twitter who had their alcohol free beer substituted for citrus bleach.

No shopping as yet!
DH has gone to collect our click and collect order to be told that they are still picking orders and are 2 hours behind 😬 he called me to tell me and I can hear a man yelling in the background about how long he’s been waiting to a member of staff. Apparently they have to wait for a manager to come out to talk to people.

Worth noting that often your delivery doesn't come from your local store so even if you find it in an emergency shop, doesn't mean they could have picked it for you and it's not the people picking who decide the sub, the order gizmo does (so Sainsbury's tell me anyway)

And Sainsbury's at least will refund for price difference over for a sub, things you reject and things they just don't have

Some of these substitutions are bonkers 🤔😱😂

Unsalted mixed nuts for my nut roast, subbed for chilli roast peanuts. Hmm, no thanks.

I ordered prawns. I got bacon 😵

They subbed my gluten free stuffing for regular stuffing, cream cracker selection for 2 packs of crispbreads (no surprise there, I normally buy them much earlier and just forgot), mr kipling frosty fancies for regular mr kipling French fancies, naan bread for a different naan bread and the eggs were unavailable to sub.
I have enough eggs (just) for what I need so all in all not a bad shop and nothing I can’t manage without

I had 15 subs and 1 unavailable… the worst was they were out of stock of crackers (for cheese) and sent a tub of Celebrations chocolates instead. They’ll be nice with some mature cheddar! 😂

Please tell me who sells butternut squash pate, I like the sound of that.

We had two substitutions which weren't too bad. Just one brand of vanilla ice cream swapped for another brand and some juice swapped for a different flavour. We had a few things not available too but are going to try and get them at the shops a bit later

@Oceancreature get some apples and make apple and mincemeat crumble if you’ve got gf flour

I had ordered a pack of Christmas cards and got a pack of playing cards and novelty bottle opener!

Waitrose 1 kg pre-packed carrots substituted with 0.5 kg loose carrots.

Husband found four packets of Twiglets in local mini Tesco. Phew!

@Harrysmummy246 yup the little device gives you sub options but you can choose your own too. I do online picking for Sainsburys and it suggested a red pepper instead of a swede the other day 😐

Punnet of strawberries substituted with raspberries, grapes substituted with….wait for it….3 punnets of strawberries…huh?!

No subs at all. Tesco, and arrived on time. Didn’t have all that much specifically xmassy on it as have picked up bits through the last couple of weeks. Sprouts and cream were the only things we would have missed and they were both there ✅. Worth getting up at 0545 on whatever day it was in November.

Last year I had roast potatoes subbed with frozen chips!

Oh I had the same @DucklingDaisy .Sainsbury’s by any chance?

I ordered jusrol cinnamon rolls but was subbed for cookie dough, and Tiger bread was subbed for malted brown bread! The poor guy at click and collect was on his own with a massive queue so I just kept everything to save him a job!

Other than that, reasonable subs but no mixed herbs or custard!!

🤔How would someone see a chocolate mousse as a natural alternative to gluten-free pastry? I would love to ask the people who chose these what their thinking behind it was.
