What do you do for breakfast on 1st Dec

I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

I am very sick of this competitive parenting shit.
I work full-time, have three children, two with SEN, one who is in hospital and it's enough to get everyone fed, dressed, and out the door in the morning, without my children coming home and telling me how "everyone else" (not everyone) had a special breakfast. Of course it's a social media thing - these things definitely didn't happen in the 80s and 90s.

It happened in my house in the 80's to the same kind of degree I do it now.

"North Pole Breakfast is “created” (and trademarked and merch-ed) by Lumistella, the company that owns a lot of Christmas trademarks including IP rights to Elf on the Shelf."

Yes, but you don't have to buy the stuff to have a "North Pole breakfast". The only thing in my weekly shop that isn't usually in there is 1 tube of smarties and 2 advent calendars. I'm old, my mum back in the 80s also bought us smarties and advent calendars.

FWIW I don't have Instagram. I make breakfast for my kids, not for social media 🙄. Maybe try lightening up and having a bit of fun. Or at least recognise other people can. All this "I eat toast over the sink whilst screaming at children" bullshit is also a social media fad of the "slummy mummy" ilk. I know which one I'd rather be.

🤣 Slummy mummy. As opposed to what consumer mummy? There’s nothing slummy about priorities and getting yourself and DC’s out of the door on time with a sensible breakfast and not one that’s basically just sugar.

Fun doesn’t have to mean making Christmas Day every day in various different ways. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are special specially because they are special. If every day is a Christmas something the two important ones get diluted.
I hope you enjoy your 1st of December Eve next year along with your half Christmas. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I make no effort it’s just another day for me. I know it’s a thing for instagramers to do, but I don’t get sucked into all that especially when most of them have been gifted everything they’re gloating about.

My two had a pair of Christmas pyjamas each, on top of their advent calendars, wrapped in a bit of red ribbon.
I used star shaped plates, pretty glasses and put the advent candle on the table. I made Jus Rol cinnamon rolls and they had apple juice (treat for them). Carols on whilst they had breakfast. It took maybe 5 extra minutes to put it together the night before and was so worth it. They loved it. No apologies here.

Not 1 photo?

I thought there would be at least 1 photo if a North Pole breakfast for those that partake.

Hope you all had a nice breakfast yesterday. We did cheerios and English muffins

soesdy · 02/12/2022 07:42

It's definitely not a thing in our house. We do advent calendars but nothing else until Xmas morning.

Funnily enough, I don't feel envious at the facebook posts about the elfs on the shelf, special breakfast, xmas eve boxes, matching family pyjamas.

Fair enough if you want to do all that jazz!

@Snugglemonkey look around after Christmas you should be able to pick up Christmas napkins really cheap. I’ve picked packs up for 10p in the sales.

What fresh hell is this? It’s past 1st Dec now and I’m still on the hunt for discounted advent calendars…

There aren’t any- disaster. All sold out. In the end I had to throw myself on Jeff’s mercy.

You’ll be lucky to find any. Our church food bank gets hundreds donated to it on 1 December. I think retailers clear their shelves of them!
